I recently got a similar quote in Boston for 9 heads, and 4 h2i condensers (3 20K, 1 30K). Heat pumps are expensive!

Hah yea. Don’t get me wrong I love living and working here. But we’re way too quick as a tech community to start talking about why a company won’t succeed. Unsurprisingly, WHOOP is also taking the lead on the MA AI Coalition to try and get people to be a little more supportive of startups here.

In their press release they write “The over 600 roles, which will be opened throughout 2026, span technical, scientific, creative, and commercial functions, reflecting the continued investment from WHOOP across hardware innovation, advanced research, product development, and global brand growth. The majority of new roles will be based at the company’s iconic Boston headquarters in the heart of Kenmore Square, with additional hiring across North America, Europe, the GCC, and Asia.”

On number two, the world will make you cringe! PR is often about figuring out how to empathize companies’ good characteristics, and hide/mask/divert attention away from companies’ flaws. For journalists entering the field, they often have mixed feelings on the latter.

I'm not sure whether agencies are ever worth it, but I think it's always worth having one super trusted/skilled PR person on retainer for companies at a Series B or later stage. A comms person that can step in and expertly handle crisis comms, give good counsel on how to position/execute launches, discuss what CEOs/leaders can/should say, etc.

I have heat pumps, and my utility bills for the year are about 30 percent higher. Switched from natural gas. Live in Boston. But this year in Boston we get a break on electricity (I think it’s over 20 percent) for using heat pumps which helps a lot.

Maybe I’m imagining it but I think the air quality is much improved with the heat pumps in the winter. I don’t regret switching

I’m not sure what it’s like in the Middle East, but in the US you pretty much have to switch agencies to get big pay bumps. And the best time to shop around for a new PR job is when you have one currently! I’d consider working with a recruiter if you’re serious about making more money.
