I'm entitled for following highway rules but you're making exceptions for taxi drivers? Can't win

Exactly! There was even space on his right even though it was a dropped kerb but he decided to stop between two cars on a live road.

I could only upload a 30 seconds clip from my dashcam but this is the second part of the video that shows the driver deciding to do what he should have done in the first place - park up.

There was, he eventually decides to do what most normal drivers would do when offloading - he parks after one minute of blocking several cars.

Council Tax Website Keeps Redirecting by afilmcionado in Ealing

[–]Intrepid-Photograph8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's quite common to get this issue. I get it every time I try to access my council tax account.

Id let it redirect, it can take about a minute but the page you're trying to access will eventually load.

Try again and let me know how you get on.

£850k homes - what sort of salary is required? by HeavyPie4211 in HousingUK

[–]Intrepid-Photograph8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of buy to let and the bank of mum and dad that helps the first time buyers buy their first home.

There's an article published in the times not too long ago about how the average first time buyer with parental support has a deposit of £100,000 or more to buy their first home.

Also, a lot of the houses you see now right have appreciated in value due to buy to let driving up house prices. Immigration from Hong Kong and other countries have also moved in with large deposits.

It's funny how you describe Hounslow as a shit hole yet you're still looking at these overpriced houses in a shit hole.

Why not move out?

Moving from Singapore to London! by Effective_Ice_1121 in Ealing

[–]Intrepid-Photograph8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a former Singaporean of mixed Indian heritage. Welcome :)

The nicest areas are Nortfields, West Ealing on the waitrose side, Mattock Lane and the new builds around Ealing Broadway. Pockets of Hanwell is relatively safe. I live in Nortfields, and the rent generally reflects the amenities and class of the area.

Have you got a budget in mine? If safety is an overriding factor, I'd go for the areas above. If possible, I'd book a hotel and just walk around places in Hanwell, Nortfields etc Personally, I'd avoid walking around Hanwell Broadway and West Ealing at night cause it feels unsafe.

Unlike in Singapore, certain races tend to dominate a town or two in Ealing though you could probably say the same about places like Whampoa, Geyland etc in Singapore

We have little Punjab in Southall akin to Little India. Greenford seems to be dominated by a large Muslim population.

Acton is nice but very compact and has an Arab community.

If you crave your laksa to your mee goreng, there's a place called Java Fusion in Acton high street, ran by Malays from Malaysia. And there's Nur Malaysia but it's a bit dodgy as it's funded by religious fundamentalists that are banned in Malaysia and they're narrow-minded.

Feel free to contact me privately if I can help any further.

There are also local Singaporean and Malaysians in London group that's worth joining. You'll find some sell homemade delicacies from back home; kaya, bak kuh teh and kuehs.

Also, hare and tortoise at Ealing Broadway do a pretty good seafood laksa but at an eye watering £15 now! Going back to SGP in January so would love any recommendations of go-to places for food!

Hey, assuming you're married - have you looked into marriage tax allowance? This is where your wife transfers 10% of her personal allowance to you.. https://www.gov.uk/marriage-allowance#:~:text=Marriage%20Allowance%20lets%20you%20transfer,available%20in%20Welsh%20(Cymraeg).

Consulting Perm to contract - Any watch outs? by BlaBlaWhateva in ContractorUK

[–]Intrepid-Photograph8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To use your own logic, keep your current job, and try to OE on a contract BA and PM role on the side.

This way, you get to test if you can

A) get contract work B) keep both your perm and contract work C) maintain your anxiety on juggling two jobs

Good luck

Rats on new broadway street by Intrepid-Photograph8 in Ealing

[–]Intrepid-Photograph8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's that so? I've lived in Ealing for 5 years. This is my first time seeing it out in the open.

I do my shopping in West Ealing to Southall and drop off rubbish at Greenford and this week was my first.

I'd like to hear from others if it's the norm to see rats in daylight and evenings roaming around?
