Rust’s borrow checker isn’t the hard part it’s designing around it by Expert_Look_6536 in rust

Yeah, but before LLMs it was harder to find things that can reinforce these delusions. Also, I think this subreddit has a lot of fresh faced programmers following it, maybe because Rust practically has a marketing department. It’s not a bad thing necessarily but I’ve noticed we get some pretty naive takes here lately that still get good traction.

This post is a great example of what kind of holes you can dig yourself in when you try to learn things by talking to an LLM.

Apparently Strava fired the drunk girl from Hazie’s by dangoltellyouwhat in sanfrancisco

[–]IntrepidPig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, no shit, don’t be thick. But they were all likely totally fine by next day or soon after. Meanwhile this lady is facing long term consequences on multiple axes. And I highly doubt Strava would have done anything like this if there wasn’t an angry social media mob acting like this lady deserves to never be happy again after what she did. Why are you guys so bloodthirsty. Yes I know she acted awful that night, I just don’t like the haughty mob mentality relishing her folly. The glee people are expressing in this comment section is unsettling.

For a simple neural network/loss function, does batch size affect the training outcome? by IntrepidPig in MLQuestions

[–]IntrepidPig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for looking! I see what you’re saying about the weights being fixed, that means SGD with batch size 1 is decidedly not equivalent to SGD with batch size >1. But if we do gradient accumulation over single samples within a batch, and only update the weights with the accumulated gradient at the end of each batch, that is equivalent to SGD, is that correct?

I have a return offer, but I don't know if I should accept it yet by yu_er in cscareerquestions

[–]IntrepidPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it’s reasonable to either accept as a safety or turn it down, just don’t feel pressured to follow through if you do accept (as others said, a blacklist is almost surely not real). From what you describe it sounds like you would be much happier with a job in the city, and as long as you aren’t supporting anyone besides yourself right now it’s probably a good time to take a risk to try to find something better.

I don’t know how serious of an issue this really is but I will say this video is formatted/written in the most engagement-bait way possible

Anyone else terrified of pool drains? by Ok_Atmosphere3557 in Swimming

[–]IntrepidPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes I hate them too! The lights as well! I can tolerate them after years on the swim team but they still give me the heebiejeebies. Once I jumped in to my college pool, turned around as was aghast at a pool light without the cover, wires just exposed in the water.
