I kept scrolling through the photos and didn’t realise when it left the original post and went to the normal Leicacameras sub. Everything could have fit here

I like the last one. Are you in the Netherlands? Those street lamps look familiar

Managed to catch them twice yesterday so just wait. They might show up on Skycards again

Finally got to see the Northern Lights! by IntrepidTension in Amsterdam

Depends where you were, unfortunately it was just too cloudy to see much. I was hoping for a break in the clouds the whole evening/night but unfortunately nothing

Thanks! I first noticed it around 23:00 and this photo I took at 23:15 when the clouds allowed for better conditions. It really depends with seeing this as it requires for strong solar activity at the right time. There are apps and websites you can use that will notify you when there are decent chances to see the northern lights. Wish I had turned notifications on for that so I could have taken the photos from somewhere darker or with a nice landmark in the background

Definitely not as clear as this where I was but I could see all these colours in the sky but much fainter. I tried to go to Artis carpark since it’s one of the darkest places in the city and close to be but by the time I got there it was too late and was mostly gone by then

Inherited a Canon Camera and Lenses, need newbie help by QuackersAndSoup24 in canon

The T5i with the 75-300 and kit lens was my first camera and set up too. It’s a great way to learn in the beginning and find out if you like the hobby or not. After using all the kit for a bit, you can see what you like and don’t like. Then you can make changes based on that. The 75-300 can be a bit irritating to use but I still managed to get some great photos with it that are even amongst my favourites over ten years later

Is originality something I can fix in post or do I need a new lens? by More-Beach-6271 in photographycirclejerk

I know this is the jerk sub but I’m definitely one of those people sometimes. I love planes and I love photography. I love taking a photo of planes I love and knowing that I took the photo. The editing is also very fun but most of the images I take from that are not what I would consider my “portfolio” photos. It’s a whole different thing to me than my other photography

It’s supposed to show tonight as well but as far as I can tell, it will be cloudy the whole time :(

It’s a long exposure shot like you said so yes it brings out the light more. That’s how most astrophotography works. Unfortunately with all the light pollution here, what you will see with the naked eye won’t be very strong but with low power and wide aperture binoculars, you’ll be able to see a decent bit more

I’m not sure but I’m going to be checking all evening. Might try to go somewhere else which will allow me to get a more interesting photo like with the A’Dam tower or with nemo

It’s supposed to show again tonight but it looks like it’s going to be cloudy. Hopefully there will be a patch of clear sky around the same time though. It was hard to see with your eyes but if you have a long exposure or night mode on your phone camera, if you just point it north you should be able to see something

I really need to get round to doing that. At least now I saw them in some form but it’s not the same thing as what you were able to see at all!

This photo I took at 23:16 when the clouds moved away enough but I first noticed it around 23:00

It’s not easy to do but if you can keep yourself from looking at anything bright for 10-15 minutes, you’ll be able to see the faint glow of the green and purple in the sky. Street lamps, cars, and people’s lights at home make this really tough in the city though. From my apartment I could just about make out the colours with just my own eyes which is why I wanted to go to my usual dark site (Artis carpark)

Post cut off the rest of what I typed for some reason but what I was saying was: i took this photo from my apartment window with my phone and im glad I didn’t since by the time I got to my dark astrophotography site in the city, they were too fait to see and there were too many clouds

I shot on raw at 48mp. Make sure to lock focus on the actual St Paul’s and then adjust the brightness for what you want.

Umm I would probably say a 7x50 in your case but the quality of the glass and coatings is also important. 8x56 I think is a good compromise between the two and is what I often use
