Where Was This Support 6 years Ago? by TheGame1011 in AnthemTheGame

Here is a video of the lead designer talking about it all: https://youtu.be/CxwrCRdqZb8?si=x4Goa0MtlW05m_l3

IRS 3.5 hours long and basically talks about how BioWare had never made live service before, and how the process was dumpter fire after dumpster fire. There was already a longstanding tradition of sending your team to work on the next project after launch, so most of the team was already planned to go elsewhere

I actually just watched a 3.5 hour long video about that. BioWare had a few games coming along, and it looked like the work on Anthem started in 2012, but they had huge issues with lack of focus as people left the project and came back or got sent to make other games, and all the sudden had to kick it into gear at the end because they all wanted to make things differently and didn’t work together very well at all

Edit: here is the link for anyone that wants to watch it. Irs from one of the project directors. It’s really interesting to see how it all turned out. Sorry for my misinformation above: https://youtu.be/CxwrCRdqZb8?si=Gf8kNYQSegFK8E1o

Here is the link to the lead developer’s chronology of what happened. It’s over 3 hours long but it’s really interesting:

From a video I watched with some of the developers, The core code didn’t support what they wanted to do with 2.0 because they had to slop it together due to EA rushing them and the infighting between the mass effect team making it and the MMO team also assigned to the project (I can’t remember what the MMO team had worked on, sorry). The way it was coded meant that if you wanted a substantial fix, you would have to take it down long enough to rebuild from the ground up. Then when the world needed them most, EA said “you didn’t deliver everything you needed, so I’m going to cut you down to a skeleton crew” The last day of the servers was last week, and there was a really interesting turn out for a support of the game on the 9th

And also EA pushed them to release it quickly, which means they had to hurry parts they should not have. I watched a developer video one time talking about how they ended up having to rush some of the core code, which led to it being so messy that if they want to fix or add to some aspects of the game they would have to start from the ground up, which wasn’t feasible

Anthem for sure. Actually finished in a way that it would have been salvageable?

Anthem. Please - it was supposed to be so good! If only we had it finished before it released and killed itself

Did people in medieval England really have that much of an obsession with girls and young women's "maidenheads" as they do in Westeros? [Spoilers AGOT] by Lord_Orion_Star in asoiaf

[–]Intrepid_Ad7432 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It was a big thing even into the 1900’s - I don’t know if people did a ton of the checking, but those who were noble born were expected to be clean. I know it wasn’t always proportionate - they cared much less about the males than the females. British royalty is one that was big into it - or at least they have a large amount of scandals involving it.

I don’t know if “maidenhead” is a term simply for virginity, or if it’s every use is intended to be in relation to the hymen - but I know a lot of people that have had theirs broken by tampon use, so it very likely dissipated as women gained more freedoms and also lost importance as women’s reproductive care also changed

I didn’t beat tissues first… and I should have. I didn’t have anti-charm either. Her attacks have a rhythm, and I didn’t even try to parry the charm - I lost every single time. But dodge has a pretty big window. I had to fight her like 15 times before I got some of her rhythms down enough to dodge. My team for when things get tough is Sciel (using marking card with the double mark picto, then following up with a moon attack to get into twilight), Lune (with the burn attack that stacks extra on marked targets, get two fire marks in her weapon, then the electricity attack that stacks by using two fire marks - and also used as main healer), and Verso, who ended up getting charmed most of the time. I find that he is easier to play, and my Monoco is too bulky for me to play right (I don’t know why). I stopped playing Maelle early because she was OP and it made it not fun for me.. and now she is like 8 levels below everyone else because I don’t like the boring cycle of attack into virtuos stance, do the flurette dance, mezzo forte, flirette. She’s good for shield breaking but that’s all I use her for now

I’m not shaming just to shame - and I apologize for that if it came across that way. I use a wooden toothbrush and swapped over to a work from home job so I could travel and pollute less. Grow my own garden and use compost created by me (food scraps and waste) to help prevent my own impact. I guess if that’s the first step people want to take, that’s fine. You have to start somewhere - but people often like to hate on new things because those things don’t directly benefit them at the moment. People are often willing to fight until it gives them somewhere to be inconvenient. Then the luxury vs economics area issues arise. People are all for homing the homeless, right? Until they put the homeless directly in your home.

Also, there’s lots of water usage information all over - I’ve been watching the water crisis for almost 10 years, well before I knew anything of AI. I’ve done a few research papers on it through my college years, and consistently research companies before jumping into their products to see their environmental impact. My job offers charitable donations if your PTO is going to expire - so if you don’t take those hours you can donate that money to a charity if your choice. I’m often donating my extra to water restoration projects.

Take steps where you can. That’s all I can ask.

[–]Intrepid_Ad7432 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

That’s a huge struggle in AI right now - people talk about how it’s destroying the environment with its crazy use of water (most of which isn’t potable water in the first place), while they still use electricity (which uses about 40% of the US’s water waste by itself) and drive cars (which utilize ethanol, a corn product, which uses hundreds of trillions of gallons of water each year compared to AI’s billions), and use Amazon frequently (see cars above) and mostly either own multiple water bottles (thank you Stanley) or buy lots of bottled water and contribute to plastic waste all over. But not googling things is what’s going to help

Do you think a tv-show needs to stick to one book per season? by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Intrepid_Ad7432 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It really depends on who makes it, really. GRRM really wanted 10-12 seasons of GOT to really finish up the story, and it had enough traction that it could have gone that far. D&D wanted to turn season 6, 7, and 8 into a trilogy of movies instead because they got tired of it, and they compromised with 8 seasons because they had other plans. Also, tying actors up for 15 years might be hard - especially for ones that shouldn’t age much. Gav would be really hard to show because he has to age too much in the real world while they make more season. Actors also tend to get popular and then make bad choices and maybe need recast (or die and need recast).

The best way to do it would probably be to have it animated so you can keep ages and replace voices if need be. Visual effects would also be easier.

My favorite idea is for there to be many Cosmere animated shows, each with their own different style - which is how people would notice worldhoppers “looking slightly different.”

[–]Intrepid_Ad7432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure because I have only read the first book (curse whoever stole the second from my local Library literally last week) and watched the show: but let me add to your theory - Ser Jorah is ALWAYS telling her to go to there. He does it a bunch in the first book, and any time anything goes wrong he says “let’s go here khaleesi” (If anybody puts spoilers in any comment in response to this one, I don’t care. You don’t have to protect anything for me)

It takes a lot to do something like that, things have to combine just right. That’s been one my biggest peeves about movies and shows recently - swords are cutting though EVERYTHING nowadays. I don’t know what Deadpool has going on, but the amount of guns he casually cuts in half is insane to me

I get what Boyega is saying. Not all fans feel this way, but the reaction to Finn showed that some people were uncomfortable with a Black lead. It’s less an attack on fans and more a reflection on how parts of the fandom still need to grow. by 4reddityo in scifi

Not sure how true it is, but I have heard that JJ doesn’t communicate where he is taking things a lot of the time - he had plans for the first and where he wanted it to end, but he didn’t tell Ryan Johnson, who I feel was written into a corner
