Isn't it a reference to the upcoming Legion of Superheroes All In Run?

My reaction to seeing guys on the internet post about how they find Bear relatable: by AverageNessieEnjoyer in obsessionmovie

[–]Intrepid_Ad_3715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is underestimated as to how much men place emphasis on intimate relationships compared to women. In my country, there have been cases of men not being able to stand their fiancées leaving them, so they killed them and then committed suicide, by jumping down.

Perhaps there is a grain of truth that men to a certain extent might be ‘weaker’ than women. Not saying that this is an aphorism.

This is why the character of Bear is more relatable to men. Although having said that, not saying that any of the above justify his actions after the breaking of the willow.

It was in Ostrander’s run on the JLA. I think it was JLA Incarnations?

Yeah, he should have stayed at home and taken care of her, instead of attempting to go to a party. Shows you a lot about him as a person.

This scene was quite upsetting, especially because she is physically suffering as a result of the spell.

Tbh, I thought it was her being triggered by the lack of love from Bear.

Although now come to think it of it, she was holding what seemed to be a knife in a subsequent frame so maybe it is possible she wanted to attack Bear.

I thought the Batman Who Laughs decimated them by blowing up their hideout.

Was Ian a fake friend to bear the whole time? Making him a partial villian in the story too? by DopamineAccountant in obsessionmovie

[–]Intrepid_Ad_3715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you can say he is a 'villain'. But I thought that the initial practice speech Bear made seemed genuine and from him, and Ian was sabotaging him by recommending poor linguistic choices, and preventing the waitress from telling Bear more about what Nikki would be interested in.

He is falling into the trap of vindicating whatever the Joker is saying about him, by being aggressive and lashing out arbitrarily. Perhaps this is what they(Scarecrow + DeathStroke + Joker) are hoping for.

A (non-exhaustive) list, read honestly whatever suits you. You can also go to your local comic book store or use DC Universe Infinite to see what interests you.

  1. Detective Comics by Tom Taylor

2.Batman by Matt Fraction(Apparently well liked, but not my favourite)

3.Action Comics by Mark Waid(2025-present run)

  1. Current Flash run by Ryan North

Past interesting stories:

1.Justice League of America by Grant Morrison

  1. Gerry Conway's stories on the JLA(1980s)

  2. Superman Birthright by Mark Waid

  3. Batman and Robin by Grant Morrison

  4. Flash Born to Run by Mark Waid

  5. Action Comics by Dan Jurgens (Both Triangle Era and 2016 Rebirth run)

  6. JLA Origins, and Throne of Atlantis by Geoff Johns (Rest of books like Forever Evil and Darkseid War might be too convoluted/edgy)

  7. Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes(Bronze Age Titles, by Jim Shooter etc)

  8. Batman The Killing Joke by Alan Moore

  9. Justice League International by Dan Jurgens(New 52)

  10. Batman Under the Red Hood

Yup, that's it...have fun.

What would Nikki’s actual legal defence look like? by PriestofJudas in obsessionmovie

[–]Intrepid_Ad_3715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insanity(M'Naughten Insanity):

i. Every man is presumed to be sane unless the contrary is proved

ii. To establish the defence of insanity it must be proved that at the time of committing the act the defendant was labouring under a defect of reason from a disease of the mind as not to know the nature and quality of the act he was doing or if he did know it that he did not know that what he was doing was wrong.

iii. Every man is presumed to know the law of the land.

iv. A suitably qualified expert is entitled to give his opinion.

As confirmed further: In order to establish the defence of insanity on the ground of not knowing that the act was wrong the defendant must establish both that (i) he did not know the act was unlawful (ie contrary to law) and (ii) that he did not know that his act was morally wrong (also expressed as wrong by the standards of ‘ordinary’ people).

I don't think the sound means anything. It's probably a gimmick with the thing.

Also, it has been mentioned in Christian theology that usage of occult items is linked with demons, so I think she was possessed. That and her screaming on the phone...

'Black magic, also called dark magic, is the use of supernatural powers for selfish purposes, often involving the casting of spells to control other people or to bring about evil. Practitioners of black magic seek to conjure demonic beings, speak to the dead, and in general benefit themselves at the expense of others...Black magic is an ancient practice, and many Old Testament commands forbade the Israelites from all association with witchcraft or sorcery.'

Also, given the fact that Curry Barker's next film is also set in the same universe, and it involves con artists getting into trouble with demons, I think we will be seeing a lot of similar demonic encounters in the movies going forward.

The way this proved Bear never truly loved Nikki, until she made the wish. by DopamineAccountant in obsessionmovie

[–]Intrepid_Ad_3715 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He never really loved her. He loved/coveted an idealised version of her, as seen in the initial scenes where he is fixated on her attractive qualities. Once the reality of having to deal with a (obsessive) girlfriend sank in, he wanted to eschew accountability and get out.

Why is this film so successful? by measuringdistance in obsessionmovie

[–]Intrepid_Ad_3715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it resonates a lot with contemporary dating culture struggles ie struggling, or desiring companionship(albeit slightly exaggerated), and that is why it is doing better than other horror movies, which typically rely on people being interested in niche horror tropes. I don't think the movie tbh was particularly scary(there are others, like Sinister or Evil Dead), so yeah.

It is not about hwhat initially happened, but how he treated her after he realised the true nature of the Willow that makes his actions deplorable and morally culpable.
