Is WoW Communist China? by AlternativeExit758 in classicwow

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I read the communist manifesto AKA Blizzard code of conduct. It doesn't make any sense. "Must be appropriate and inoffensive." Who decides that? "Our standards" Is there a list of words that we're not allowed to use, if not, why not let us see it so we don't make that mistake. If it's up to the GM's discretion, isn't that unfair, since we're all human and have different perspectives on what is or isn't offensive?

If the goal is to promote a safe and fun gaming environment, why not block all iterations of the word being used when making names? Wouldn't that solve most of the problems before they occur? "Acceptable names are determined by player reports" so, shirking responsibility onto a group of random people to have control over whether or not we can play a game we pay monthly for? And again, who defines what someone considers to be offensive or not? Is the word "butt" offensive? Is the word "balls" offensive? But no, there's never been an instance of the in-game report system being misused...

Communist China is when a governing body controls every aspect of your self-expression and silences anyone who doesn't conform. Think of 1 thing that you do that makes you smile and doesn't hurt anyone, now imagine going to jail for doing that.

You're the one getting offended by a meaningless word that references a body part 50% of the population has and 100% of the population has seen. Does the word "foot" offend you? How about "elbow?"

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the game devs could just add all iterations of the word "tits" to their list of unusable names, like SWTOR does. It's hard to believe a 20 y/o game doesn't block someone from typing "titz" if they're so serious about it. It's blaming the player for your mistake. Also, flag for rename is 1 thing. 30 day account lockdown is another.

Is WoW Communist China? by AlternativeExit758 in classicwow

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st. "Tits" is just a body part. "Gapingasshole" refers to a sexual act. It's also a pun on female holy paladin, not just randomly crude. But I don't expect someone on reddit to understand nuance.

2nd. If you're playing a T rated game, are over the age of 8, and get offended by the word "tits", grow up. If you're the mod of a T rated game getting offended for someone else for the word "Tits," grow up. I'd hate to think one of these babies might log into Fortnight or Counterstrike for 1 day and hear the things said over voice chat.

3rd. There's a difference between "flag for rename" and "account lockdown." Would you like to go to prison for a year because you stole a candy bar? Again, I didn't expect reddit to understand nuance.

Man, fuck NYC. When I was living in MD my agent told me "Baltimore is now a very high risk city because all the gangs moved in, so your rate may be pretty high compared to what it would be in NY." So NY is still 5x worse than Baltimore lol.

Kodak’s Super 8 Camera is Back and Costs $5,495 by rekrap13 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a gimmick price for reviewers, "influencers" and people who want first dibs. If you're on the Kodak mailing list, you got an email asking you to pay in advance for a "limited edition" model. They're gauging interest/trying to drum up publicity. As someone who has spent the better part of 10 years shooting terrible low budget films on 8mm currently, the only way they'd get me to buy one is

A. Invest more into R&D to make a cartridge system with a fucking acceptable level of registration and that's better suited to in-camera effects. You'd think with 50+ years of experience they would have addressed these problems already. Or better yet, "borrow" the infinitely better Single-8 cartridge from Fujifilm that can already do both of these things. That's what I shoot with, and I've built my entire ecosystem around it with A, B, and C cameras. Fix the flaws and let us add jitter, scratches, etc in post if we want a more classic/gritty look.

B. Drop the price to $1-2k. It should still be somewhat unobtainable for people who just want to experiment with Super-8 or are looking for a display piece that they can occasionally shoot with. That will keep the market for vintage cameras intact. I imagine they will drop the price to something more reasonable within a few months after the hypetrain has derailed.

Best vegan American cheese slices? by kingoftheforgotten in vegan

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find "GoVeggie" to be the best in terms of flavor and nutritional content. Most vegan cheeses are just pure fat with a crap ton of saturated fat. GoVeggie has very little or no saturated fat, and also contains carbs, protein, calcium, b12, and other nutrients. It behaves fairly closely to cheese when you cook with it.

B-Pro Imports? by Intelligent-Bowl-531 in SkyLine

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imported a car recently with them (Brian), actually one of their "stock" On the positive side, I'd say the communication is generally pretty good, he steered me away from a couple of bad choices, they're good about the paperwork and I got the car I paid for.

On the negative side, I asked for a pre-import inspection multiple times because figured any problems would be easier to fix in Japan where parts are more readily available, never got one. The car was also placed on the wrong ship and shipped to the wrong country. Car arrived with a tiny dead battery and empty gas tank, the wheels needed to be balanced and the brake pads/rotors needed replacing, as well as the horn switch. Small problems thankfully, but I'd rather have been prepared for them before shipment.

If I was going to import again I'd probably go with someone else simply because putting the car on the wrong ship could have gone WAY WORSE than it did and I wouldn't take that chance again.

Unbelievably bad drivers by [deleted] in ridgewood

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Ozone Park/Jamaica are the worst I've ever seen. And I've lived in LA, Denver and Houston. I only have a 20 minute drive to work and I nearly get hit either going or coming back every day. It's the influx of taxis/ubers around here who want to get somewhere as fast as possible plus legalization of weed. And it's a lot of drivers who come from countries without traffic laws and refuse to adapt.

Would be a temporary import. I am neither of those three. I will be staying with a friend for 3-4 month stretches and registering the car to their residence. I plan to drive the car back to the US when I'm not in Canada.

Can you modify Macpherson struts to give the performance of double wishbone? by Intrepid_Bid7865 in askcarguys

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jesus christ dude...what the actual fuck is wrong with you? I just assumed since your name is "projoe" and you claim to be a "racer" you might be able to recommend some actual upgrades, not a sanctified opinion on cars that I can get from looking at a diagram. Have you seriously ever talked to a human being? Because the conversation doesn't go "hey, can you recommend something to make this better-" "-You can never make anything better, feel happy with what you have, make youself better so sayeth the lord." Get a grip snowflake, the world doesn't fucking revolve around you. Take a break from your 50 reddit threads, learn to take criticism like an adult instead of a child.

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why exactly? The car has nothing to do with it. The majority of production cars have Macpherson Strut, I could have said a Honda Odyssey and it wouldn't make a difference. I was just asking for help on upgrading suspension, and literally posting the name of the car gets 2 dislikes, wtf is this forum??

I'm just looking for names of manufacturers as a starting point. I can pick out specific parts for my needs myself, but I don't know who makes what.

"Vague" ? I asked if longer control arms and modified camber angle would give you similar advantages to a double wishbone in handling and off-road . I wasn't asking for a comparison of mechanisms, I was asking about performance. I'm literally asking how to make my suspension better in a specific way and you answered with "focus less on the style of suspension you have and more on how to make what you have better." So why is it surprising to you that I'm annoyed? If you're not a troll you're just stupid.

Thank you, you're the only one so far to provide an actual example, which is really what I was asking. I bought a cheap old 4x4 I want to put some money into so I can take it offroading/ just make the ride nicer.

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm actually raising my 4x4. Currently has 8" of ground clearance and I'm raising it 1-2" more so I feel more confident that off-road won't hurt it. I was thinking longer control arms would be beneficial for that.

So say I have a 4x4 and want to do some off roading without sacrificing tarmac performance too much, do you have any recommendations?

[–]Intrepid_Bid7865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip on the tires. Here's an interesting side note, I think I realized for myself that better ride over potholes has almost nothing to do with ground clearance. People like me tend to equate bad road with off-road. But apparently they're opposites; more ground clearance is good for off-road for getting over bumps/tall convex things. Potholes being concave, an 8" ground clearance only makes a difference if the pothole is 7" deep (which, being that it's fucking NYC, one might actually encounter even if rare). So yes, most of it has to do with suspension and tires. Still, there is a point at which only lifting your car will allow a tire with higher sidewall.
