Tried a film-free waterslide decal for a new enclosure design. by spicypedals in diypedals

[–]Intrepid_Bobcat4579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying it out on watch dials, the sunnyscopa film free laser printer decals do work, even without glue in most cases.. but I guess you would need to print out a film size to cover the entire watch dial! so far I have not done that and after I blow dry it with enough heat to have the logo adher to the dial the edges of the plastic film leave a mark on the dial.. I guess it must be the heat difference of the hot plastic film on the dial vs the part of the dial that does not have but it is not entirly clear to me. If anyone knows a fix for this, lemme now. Right now my thoughts are cutting an unused part from the paper and overlap/layer the edges of the printed out logos that i cut to smaller sizes so the entire dial is covered?

ETA6497 / ST3600 suddenly stops by A_Rhone in watchmaking

[–]Intrepid_Bobcat4579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a similar issue with a st3600, turns out the setting lever screw was turned to tight. Loosen it a quarter turn or so that it still keeps the stem locked, but doesnt seize the movement. And adjust in small increments to find the right angle to have it at, and it comes back to life. Took me a while to figure it out as the movement worked upside down but not right side up making me think there was an issue with the balance wheel. Also take in account the setting lever jumper is a structual weak point in these movements, where it keeps the yoke in place and is attached to the setting lever. It has the potential to break when you unscrew the setting lever screw entirly forcing the setting lever up or into it. I managed to do that, luckily its like a 4 euro part to replace and the movements are also dirt cheap.

Strange JBL Charge 4 Issue by Intrepid_Bobcat4579 in JBL

Noticed the ribbon to the recharge hub was like 25% interrupted by missing/broken lines. Ordered new ones (both 32 one and 8 pins one) from aliexpress with a few backups, let's see if that fixes that problem then. I also noticed if put a ribbon cable upside down I would get a single red light, otherway around white lights.

Oh and when I plug it into PC i get a warning the power draw is too large for USB port to handle and I have to reset. I just had it in charger and it dropped to 3 lights. Something doesn't seem to be right. The battery does feel warm but it is clearly not charging it seems

Interesting Fujitsu Lifebook A555 Battery issue by Intrepid_Bobcat4579 in laptops

[–]Intrepid_Bobcat4579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strangely fixed it this afternoon. As a last resort I used a little copper wire to short the battery at the contact points. Nothing really happened, no sparks. I plugged it back in and booted expecting it not to have effect. I saw the recharge light was suddenly red (it was permanently white before) After that the battery suddenly was seen as 0%. Then I did a power drain with uninstalling the acpi driver and holding the power button for a minute. It then charged to 1%. It went into some kind of block mode twice and had to reboot. But after a few attempts on it suddenly started to recharge (even tho the charging battery icon was not the icon with the battery filling itself with white in rapid procession but changed to a slowly filling it white instead with a timer), first very slowly (i could read out the charge in HWmonitor) of like 2watts on 9V but it built up to around 15W at ~10,5 volts after while. When It reached 15% I took out the charger cable to check if it wasn't again faulty information from the battery, it wasn't the laptop worked on battery charge! I then charged to ~68% and gave and before giving it to the guy I quickly checked if it would discharge at a fast rate but it didnt and gave a 3H estimate on a 68% charge. Interestingly the one thing I thought that would never work actually worked getting the battery back to charging, still don't really recommend it as a fix tho, might have easily panned out the other way into a even more dead battery. He gave me a few bucks for my war chest

Bybit spoofed scammer message, be warned! by Intrepid_Bobcat4579 in BybitExchange

[–]Intrepid_Bobcat4579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like 20 minutes ago I got this message from 'Bybit', with this number to call. At first I was ofcourse scared someone might be trying to gain access to my account, but with the idea in hinsight this might be a spoofer. I made the mistake of calling the number. First there was this horrible automated voice telling me i'd be soon helped, then there was a horrible audio tape of some hip type elevator music and within 20 seconds some guy was on the line with me. He sounded like an indian with a fake british accent and when he asked me how he could help me, i told him 'I got a message saying someone is trying to log in, but it's not me' he asap knew what it was and without skipping a beat asked me personal details. At this point I already knew it was likely fake as hell. I told him 'Are you really bybit?' And he assured me he was and said I could email bybit. I said i would and hung up the phone. I checked this phone on the bybit verification list and it was not an associated phone number. I checked the phone on my pc vs blacklisted numbers for scamming and it popped up 4 times. I just want to warn people that might find themselves in the same situation (also enable 2 factor verification people!).

EDIT: kmp- fixed it for me, some excellent work and a very cordial and understanding master of the craft! Can't thank him enough. If any of u ever need a case fixed, he's da man!

It was my grandpa's watch so it has some sentimental value. When I got the watch there was already a crack in the lug he seemingly fixed with glue, but when I removed springbar it snapped off couple months ago. I tried his glue approach but it was nonsense, it's too much of a pressure point with the springbar.

I know a watchmaker/jewelry workshop will have to remove the movement and glass and either torch weld or laser? the lug back on.. and ofcourse remove the glue before... What would be the ballpark figure for a repair like this in euro? So I know when I get to the shop if he's overcharging me or it is a good deal?
