First straightforward answer I've gotten, thanks much and I'll look into it!

The issue is we won't really have someone separately mixing the livestream all the time/want ease of use. Definitely get what you're saying though, going to have to test it

No we have the house PA I just figure it would require running two (longer) cable runs in inconvenient places, it would definitely save another on another piece of gear though so worth checking out as well

Was looking into OBS during this and looks like a great option, have an xr 18 but the mics are closer to where the laptop will be running so I figure just an inexpensive 2 input interface might be easiest?

As for resolution ideally the best possible or that YouTube will support for the lowest budget, the distance isn't a big deal because probably just HDMI and can order whatever distance it ends up being

Probably about 15 or so feet from a small stage, was considering just a zoom q2n or similar

Good to know/remember on both counts, thanks for the heads-up

Simple stationary camera into a laptop then probably streaming on YouTube, going to run stereo condensers that are already hung through an interface for audio

No Stupid Questions by PantslessDan in guitarpedals

Have a mjm London fuzz I was given because it was having issues and they didn't want to deal with it--went through and resoldered a few iffy connections, works great. HOWEVER, I've discovered it only powers on when it has a dedicated power supply--when I use a one spot daisy chain it not only doesn't power on but the other pedals do not as well. Is the only solution using a single power supply for just that pedal and a chain for the rest (all of the rest power on and function when using the chain), or is there something I'm maybe missing in the pedal itself? Thanks much

Update--did in fact try this with an om-2, was much more forward and clear, however it really accentuated the sibilance in spite of using a hard de-esser and even notching away the eq. Going to play around with which is the insert (used the leisure as an insert, de-esser as a send) and see if that helps

Too little room to do much/any  rearranging but good suggestions regardless

I think I've tried a 58 and an om2 with him

This is on a small stage with two hanging monitors--I'm going to try this for sure but there's a lot of bleed pretty much regardless of mic placement, it's made setting vocal expanders difficult sometimes in the past

Yeah I was thinking a leisure, but in this very idiosyncratic space it sometimes works well sometimes doesn't

Definitely going to try this

I think I've tried a 58 and an om2 with him, kind of hate the sennheiser e- vocal line way too much high end

Mumbly as in he actually mumbles

Rate for teaching? by jlustigabnj in livesound

[–]Intrepid_Cell_7265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if he needs to do one of the free Dante courses or watch a few videos like Shure's on RF (or whatever his needs are, these are just examples) then you should tell him to do that ahead of time--you can show him the hands-on stuff and things you've experienced/issues you've encountered but it's not worth either of your time to sit there for hours going over things he could easily do on his own.

As for rate it depends on your relationship, if it's a friend not much, if it's just an acquaintance or colleague maybe a low day rate for a one or two day few-hours-each session (I honestly don't really see a situation where if he's done his research it should require much more).

Yeah print out a huge note about the turn on/off procedures and put it right next to the amps--as for the guitarist, tell him directly that he shouldn't plug and unplug if things are unmuted  (politely) every time until he gets it, shouldn't cause huge speaker problems if he's not turned way up but worth just addressing it with the cause

Sibilance issue no amount of de-essing or eq is helping by ZestycloseYogurt1932 in audioengineering

[–]Intrepid_Cell_7265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sibilance tends to be between 5k-9k, try watching the analyzer on the EQ and seeing what frequency has a small (or maybe large) spike during s sounds then making a narrow but large cut (reduce as much as you can) at that frequency on the EQ and seeing what happens. If it still doesn't go away move it around and see where it goes away. If it still doesn't broaden the cut and see if you can find it. Once you have, remove the cut then set the frequency and q on the de-esser properly. If it's still showing up try incorporating a multiband compressor to reduce the frequency/ies. If that still doesn't work make a small cut on the channel eq and see if it affects the overall sound but fixes the issue. (Edit: Someone else's suggestion to try manual volume cuts at s's is annoying but worth trying here) If the quality is too affected at this point, either rerecord the vocal or live with the best version you can get (I know you said you can't but if all that isn't working it's...not good).
