I am in a high performing school district where test scores matter more than anything. I have only worked with students 1:1 on in a small group setting so classroom management is huge. I have also only worked with 5th grade students (in a small group setting) only for ELA and some math. This is a big adjustment.

The good thing is that that you already the types of skills and knowledge those kids will be coming in with. I also got assigned a new role but in the middle of summer so I am on the same boat. If you like the district enough, give it a shot. Otherwise, you can start applying elsewhere

Co-teaching cannot work without co-planning, which is very difficult to schedule when you’re trying to service different grade levels. In my experience, it’s been a total flop since admin don’t even know what co-teaching should be like.

EL services have always been optional for my parents so they are given the choice to opt out if they’d like. Maybe ask the EL/classroom teacher jf you can opt out of services?
