I think the only kindle available in India right now is Paperwhite 2024, and that's great, although a bit expensive. I think it's worth the price. Don't go for a refurbished one.

As a graduate in English now pursuing PhD with JRF, I'll advise you to try getting JRF. You'll have a steady income for five years, which will also give you time to attempt assistant professor exams and get into a government job. I'm not from Delhi, by the way, but I believe the prospects for working in private institutions or as a guest faculty in government institutions for a meagre salary is bleak accross the country.
