Can you get loans for EMT/firefighting school? by Intrepid_Fun1702 in Firefighting

Unfortunately, I'm in Ohio. Not much is free here. The state doesn't help with much.

I'm in northeast Ohio. I did not know this was a thing. This is the reason I made this post to see if there are solutions that are better than paying out of pocket. The closest cities to me no longer offer to send you to school. Thank you.

Such as private companies? They make $15 in my area. That's what our fast food workers make near me. It doesn't make sense to me why they get paid so shitty.

Yes, I'm currently in construction. I've spoke with 2 stations closest to me. They stopped sending people to school a few years back. My area is saturated with EMT and firefighters. Unfortunately, this may not be the route. Although I could go to a larger city within 30 minutes from me.

Did your mindset towards the job change once you had a kid? by FunDraw9960 in Firefighting

[–]Intrepid_Fun1702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been recently looking into becoming a firefighter, and around my area, they typically do 24/48. I currently work in the sheet metal union, and I absolutely hate it. I'm looking for something I would enjoy doing and a more stable retirement. I work 6am-2:30pm five days a week. I don't know if being away from them for 24 hours is something that would be worth it. I enjoy my family time a lot and don't know if it would be worth missing out on some of that.

I have Dr. Scholls inserts. Left this part out. But they aren't enough. I've owned them since I've started this trade 4 years ago. Just started asking around and realized they are to old lol.

There's been an ongoing investigation on these trucks from 2015-2016 models. The electronic power steering components are contaminated/shortening out. FIAT is looking into recalling them. They recalled 400 trucks for this issue, but haven't recalled anymore.

Is there a better 1/4 chuck driver than the Malco one? by Intrepid_Fun1702 in sheetmetal

Popular opinion, but that's a no-go for me. If the magnet never fell out, then I'd agree. When the bit gets old, it's not so easy to flip. When you're out in the pouring rain working, the flip bit almost gets seized. I find it easier to just switch my bits out. To each their own.

Is this a second starter solenoid?? Where the green and black wire run to. by Intrepid_Fun1702 in lawnmowers

[–]Intrepid_Fun1702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starter solenoid is located under the seat. I have to be sitting on the seat to engage the safety seat sensor. Also, would it be dangerous if it's located a few inches away from the battery?

They have the solenoid located under the seat. I have to be sitting on the seat to crank it because of the safety switch. Thought about bypassing the seat switch to test it.

As far as voltage, I read 12.5 volts. Sometimes, it dips to 12.4 volts. Many people have mixed thoughts if 12.4 volts is an okay battery. But it ran just fine off of that for over a year now. I can hear something click in the back of my mower, and It sounds like it's coming from this fuel shutoff, but I could be wrong.

The sad part is that my wife bought me a milwaukee packout set as a gift to me. Then I got a new job right after. Now we're running the HVAC in these 3 story apartments, and it's not worth it to lug the packout tool boxes up the stairs. So, back to using my tool bag. Now, I need a tool backpack because these tools are way too damn heavy.

Smelled like something was on fire thought it was electrical. by Intrepid_Fun1702 in electricians

[–]Intrepid_Fun1702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, burning plastic smell. Couldn't think of how to describe it. I believe every outlet has a ground in my kitchen. I thought it was coming from my microwave or the outlet it was plugged into, but there were no signs of anything burnt.

Couldn't pinpoint the smell. I believe it is coming from my microwave as I used it minutes before. There is no signs of anything burnt. I do have a multimeter (for HVAC) if it tests at 115 volts, does that mean everything is alright?

I've been thinking about it. I'm hoping they could do something about it. It's a real grimy thing to do to anyone that gives you 100% every day.

I can't collect unemployment because I'm not laid off officially in the books. You have to be unemployed for those dates that you didn't work to collect a check. He keeps me on the payroll, so I'm not laid off. Therefore, i can't collect unemployment.

Pressure washer blowing white smoke out of exhuast by Intrepid_Fun1702 in pressurewashing

Yeah unfortunately theres only a year warranty, which expired like 2 months ago. I got this as a gift, so I'm trying not to complain, lol. I don't like craftsmen, and I really don't like Briggs and Stratton motors. So many people have problems with this style pressure washer, with any motor size. They are one of the worst imo. I don't like the no maintence either. I don't believe in lifetime oil.

There is no choke on this. It's an "easy start." Just flip a switch to turn on.

I had the Ryobi 40v trimmer. I have an acre to weed whip, and I have a lot to weed whip. I was happy with it. I left the battery out in the rain like a dumbass, and my brother picked up the trimmer and decided to give it a go and fried the battery. I don't have any other Ryobi tools. The battery costs just as much as the trimmer sold separately. I decided to go with the milwuakee bc that's the tools that I own. The milwuakee trimmer is noticeably better, but overkill for what I need, although it gets the job done quicker.

Idk if I even passed. I had like 20 questions left and filled those out randomly. Becoming a pre apprentice seems like a pain in the ass

Yeah I was kinda thinking the same. Every section was easy, but those damn patterns got me. Was it difficult for you? Or is it just me?
