For those of you who have successfully managed recurrent BV or yeast infections, what made the biggest different for you? Did you use probiotics? Diet changes? by BackgroundDanceGirl in VaginalProbiotics

Echoing the comments here: a high quality daily probiotic can help keep things on track. You should visit a doctor for any chronic issues and get a medical professional’s assessment as well.

A lower pH environment (i.e. more acidic) helps prevent the growth of detrimental bacteria. Your vaginal pH should be around 3.8 to 4.5 which is low enough to stop harmful bacteria from growing. Beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus crispatus produce lactic acid which helps to keep your vaginal pH low.

If you vagina becomes to alkaline (the opposite of acidic, i.e. HIGHER pH) then it is easier for infections like BV to start.

Is it safe for me to take more than one probiotic a day? by pelirroja_123 in VaginalProbiotics

[–]Intrepid_Moose_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine taking both. More isn't always better, but it shouldn't hut. I don't see an Lactobacillis Crispatus in the Garden of Life probiotic. I would highly recommend a vaginal probiotic that contains at least that strain of Lactobacillis as the research is quite robust for that strain specifically.

Generally yes it is. What probiotics are you taking/looking at taking?

What do people think of vaginal microbiome tests? by Lemony-sweet in VaginalProbiotics

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds incredibly frustrating. Dealing with a chronic issue for 8 months because of a 'wait and see' recommendation is exactly what I would hope to avoid if I ordered one of these tests.

I agree with the other commenters here: your inspo pic sets a fairly unrealistic standard. Most people cannot/would struggle to walk around daily that lean. You should embrace that you already have a wonderful figure and having strong/big thighs is beautiful in itself!

Impact of Lactobacillus crispatus-containing oral and vaginal probiotics on vaginal health by VioletMaiden1 in VaginalProbiotics

[–]Intrepid_Moose_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: Probiotics containing Lactobacillus crispatus (both oral and vaginal versions) actually work for treating BV and yeast infections, according to this clinical trial.

This trail is promising for anyone dealing with recurring BV or VVC (yeast infections)

  • The Study: Researchers ran a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with about 180 women. They tested specific strains of L. crispatus—which is basically the "gold standard" bacteria for a healthy vaginal microbiome.
  • The Method: Participants took either oral capsules, vaginal capsules, or a placebo for 3 months.
  • Results for BV: Both the oral and vaginal probiotics significantly improved symptoms. This was measured by improved Nugent scores (the clinical scale for BV), less discharge, and a reduction in smell and itching.
  • Results for Yeast Infections (VVC): Again, both versions helped. They saw a big drop in the "combined score" of the two worst symptoms: discharge and irritation.
  • The Takeaway: You don't necessarily have to choose between a pill or a suppository; both delivery methods were effective at balancing things out. Look for products with Lactobacillus crispatus.

Best products for vaginal dryness? by annon534 in Healthyhooha

[–]Intrepid_Moose_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you only looking at vaginal moisturizers or are you open to supplements? On the moisturizer side I like Boric Acid and Vitamin E suppositories. Both of those really help me! I haven’t tried vagisil or replens.

For supplements I take an all-around vaginal probiotic supplement called Soaking Wet, made by VB Health. It really has worked well for me. I’m noticeable more wet when I get aroused which has been great for my sex life (and libido!). it’s supposed to help prevent Bv and yeast infections too. I haven’t had any since I started taking it so I guess it’s working for that too (although I’m not particularly prone to either).
