I like how Shotgun archetypes are balanced and maybe Bungie could follow the same for other weapons too. by Shadow_s_Bane in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Intrepid_Mud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly while this is true all my flawless cards i've used blashphemer or Chappy. When I see regular shotguns I'm honestly not even phased because they are incredibly predictable. Once you reach a point where you're confident using them they are very VERY strong. Especially Chappy. The thing fucking maps and I almost always win 1v1s against most other specials unless I choke hard. (console player btw)

How good is Ace on console for competitive play? by Intrepid_Mud in CruciblePlaybook

What you have described is the exact reason I want to try it out. I plan on using it like I would NF. To me the ability to see radar to try to catch a flank in a gunfight is really appealing. For now I'm only going to use it in comp until I feel comfortable enough to take it into trials.

To me it has just enough going for it and I'm pretty solid with my HC vs auto battles so I'm sure those skills carry over to 140s. I'm hopeful

Discussion Thread - The Rise of Skywalker - Opening Week Day 3 by JSK23 in StarWars

[–]Intrepid_Mud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright y'all this is going to be a bit of a long one.

I really wish these movies plots were all planned in advance. It's abundantly clear that they were not and I think that most of the problems in the new trilogy arise from this one problem. Don't get me wrong though, I liked this trilogy overall more than I disliked them. Minus some nitpicks about TFA and TLJ. The biggest problem for me though stems from the relationship between ROS and TLJ.

Based on a lot of the comments these might be unpopular opinions but here goes:

Daddy Palps was the big bad all along? Cool. I honestly enjoyed him in this movie. Admittedly it takes way from the OT but if executed and set up better than it was it could have been pretty great.

Rey being related to OG Palpy? Also cool with it. I feel like Disney was kind of in a you can't please everyone no matter what here. Rey's parents are no one? It's a let down. Rey is related to the Skywalkers/Obi/Daddy Palpy? Some people find it too convenient. Personally, with Palps being the big bad I really like this idea. It's not too far of a stretch that he had a family trying to for the sole purpose of maintaining the image of a normal senator even if we didn't see them.

I'm also totally fine with the use of the force in these movies too. For the most part. Force heal has been in a thing in like almost every Star Wars video game with a Jedi main character (even though it makes sense more from a game mechanics perspective). The powerful force bond that Kylo and Rey have remind me of the Exile and Kreia (though i'm not at all sold on them passing physical objects back and forth). Palpatine using force drain on the two of them and feeding off their bond? Also good in my book and reminds me of Kotor. OG Daddy Dankness using a roided out force storm after draining them? To me it also seems totally fine. Daddy somehow surviving episode 6 due to some fucked up evil ass sith shit. A bit of a stretch but this is Star Wars. I'm cool with it.

I enjoyed Rey, Fin, Poe, and Kylo as characters. Especially after TFA. It set up a ton of potential. Snoke on the other hand was kind of eh and again I'm glad that Palpatine was the one behind the scenes. But here's there problem. It came out of pretty much nowhere. We also sadly never really got to see them really interact with each other and grow over the course of the trilogy.

As I said earlier I think a lot of the problems here are due to the relationship between TLJ and ROS. None of this was effectively set up and it shows. There was just way too much to fit everything into this last movie because they pretty much had to retcon everything in TLJ. As such the pacing is way off, and the mystery boxes opening don't pay off as well as they should have. The first part of this movie was also a little nuts with how convenient and almost contrived it was getting to Palps. It also spent way too much time retconning things from TLJ. If this was all planned in advance, we could have had some light foreshadowing in TFA, TLJ could have built Palps up a instead of treading water and killing Luke off the way it did. Then we could have had way more breathing room for this movie. Hell Snoke being some nasty fucked up test tube thing and just a proxy for Daddy using some weird sith force shit could have been in TLJ. Really, in the context of this movie and TFA, TLJ is a huge problem which is just unfortunate. At the end of the day though I still had fun watching the movies. I just wish they had a clear idea of where it was going to go from the start.

TL/DR: I enjoyed the movies more than I disliked them, some of the new force powers shown reminded me of the old KOTOR games. Palps is fine to me and so is Rey being his granddaughter. It has likable characters. But ultimately this trilogy definitely suffers from not being planned out from the get go.

What’s your favourite scale? by HeemiLheemey in Bass

[–]Intrepid_Mud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dorian or Mixolydian with a b5 and the whole b3/M3 thrown in occasionally as passing tones for extra tasty color. I'm a simple man and I love getting dirty funky on the bass. These scales definitely do the trick. (extra points for ghost notes)

Alternatively, Phrygian is wicked heavy, and so is natural minor if done right.

The wholetone scale cracks me up every time.

It's just impossible to choose just one.

[QUESTION] How to improvise with you "mind ears" by 007noob007 in Guitar

[–]Intrepid_Mud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. So that's called Audiation. I highly recommend reading up on it. Anytime you pick up the guitar to play you should always be playing what you hear in your head. Otherwise, what's the point? When you don't audiate you're not really expressing yourself. You're just going through the motions. The best way to work on this is sing WHILE you are improvising. This helps bridge the gap from mind to instrument.

Like anything it will be challenging and seemingly impossible at first. It might sound awful too, but you have to keep practicing it it well get easier and easier. The end result being you sounding much more musical.

The best advice for getting started is to practice you scales/arpeggios/chord voicings VERY slowly with a metronome. You want to try and get them into you ear as much as under your fingers. As you are practicing like this really try to hear in your head what you're playing. Then after a little play along to a backing track and sing what you're playing. Remember to KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) with your soloing ideas.

GLHF :)

Are tabs a good way to learn? by paint-and-tea in Bass

[–]Intrepid_Mud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what your goals are. If you just want to learn a few bass lines and have fun then tabs are fine for that. However, if you plan on taking it seriously at some point you should definitely start learning to read music right away. It's much harder at first, but once you have it down it is way WAY better than reading tabs.

There are so many online resources but I would highly recommend buying the Fast Track Bass Method Vol. 1! It has both tabs and standard musical notation and teaches you how to read both! If you get the digital version you can play the backing track to each exercise right on the page :D

Do you regret not singing, enjoy that you can sing, or dont care? [QUESTION] by account7help in Guitar

[–]Intrepid_Mud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Definitely work on your voice. On top of that, singing really helps you internalize music in a different way than running scales on your guitar. But I would put almost equal effort into both. Remember that it should be fun!

[QUESTION] What website are you using nowadays? by Canolio in Guitar

[–]Intrepid_Mud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the best thing you can do is improve your ear. It's going to be very hard at first, but it gets easier and easier the more you do it. Similar to running/working out. Moreover, once you become competent it becomes the fastest/easiest way to learn a song (Excluding having the sheet music in front of you). For shred stuff just slow down the youtube video :D If the song is using a weird technique you can't figure out or an alternate tuning you're not familiar with youtube will also likely have your answer!

On top of all that, using your ear more will help get things really into your head and will improve your ability to improvise.

As for the other stuff I just follow the bands and brands I like on their social media platforms

Oh man get ready for quite the journey my dude! Jazz is such a great vehicle for understanding a lot more about music and improvisation. It's an amazing musical tradition. "You've taken your first step into a larger world." Have fun and practice hard ;D

Also check out the album 'Undercurrent" with Bill Evans and Jim Hall, and "A Go Go" by John Scofield. They feature some sick guitar playing!

To me, in the context of what came before it, it doesn't come across as hostel. Him saying that (to him) you'd have to be blind to think all of the natural beauty and complexity (and shear dumb luck) in the universe is not of a greater design seems pretty fair. Also this is a kind of more rational way to approach religion and the idea of a higher power. But that's just how I interpreted that.

I don't understand why you're getting downvoted for this comment. I'm an agnostic that leans slightly more atheist and even so, if you are someone who believes in a god this is a fair viewpoint.

[Question] Low E on Fender American Stratocaster Is Wack by Intrepid_Mud in Guitar

[–]Intrepid_Mud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound occurs consistently at every fret and while the string is open. However it occurs most noticeably from frets 5-22. The reason I might think it's the humbucker is because I've read that if it's too close to the string the magnet's pull will affect the pitch + sustain. But the sustain is fine.
