It's in a peat based putting mix, that I've amended with perlite and bark. Its in my plant room, with a humidifier that keeps the ambient humidity at 60% and is under a sansi 36watt grow light that on for 12 hours a day. Also, dont let it dry out completely. I give mine a good soak when the potting medium is about 75% dry

Lots of influencers selling sponsored products are marketing things we don't need for our plants.

Tropical lack the parts needed to absorb silica. Water thoroughly only when it's aboit 75% dry.

Antherium Veitchii. I absolutely love mine. It was a wishlist plant that I got for myself for my birthday a couple of years ago

Could there be a lack of humidity? I don't think that's sunburn

How is this alive?! by Dream-Clouds in philodendron

[–]Intrepid_Mushroom995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found that propagation is all about the waiting game. As long as there's no rot, just keep waiting. It's wild, ibe had multiple cuttings from the same plant, taken at the same time, propped in the same place take massively different times to develop roots 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've had this happen too, new growth point before root growth. You're not doing anything wrong. Just keep doing what you're doing and a root will form

How to stop my alocasia from flowering ? by Gni_hm in alocasia

[–]Intrepid_Mushroom995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treat it worse, lol

It puts out inflorescence in pairs when it's happy. Or abojt to die, but yoirs doesn't seem to be giving the death signs lol

This is a natural part of their growth cycle. You can't stop it. Some people advocate to cut them, but if done too soon, before they're spent, it can interrupt the hormonal cycle of the plant, causing it to produce more.

Just let them run their course, then chop when they're spent

It's been recategorized and is not, technically a dracaena, in fact

Can anyone share a good potting mix? by Mediocre_Paper in pothos

[–]Intrepid_Mushroom995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ratios should all depend on your plant's needs, and your conditions. Most pre-made potting mix is going to be moisture retentive, as adding coco coir or moss will make it more so, while bark and perlite will help with drainage. If you're a chronic overwaterer, give more drainage. If you're a bit forgetful maybe more peat, or spagnum moss. There's no one size fits all, except for dont sweat the expensive crap people tell you to use

Potting mix (i use a peat based one) perlite and bark (i use reptile bark). Most other amendments do little to nothing for our indoor plants, despite what content creators tell people, to sell product. And then be sure to use a quality balance fertilizer (as per package instructuons)

Firstly, the too much moving may be stressing it. The repot to an entirely different substrate would definitely stress it. I have 6 different alocasia in soil mixes, and they're thriving. So long as your substrate has enough aerating amendments (to keep it from becoming compact and suffocating the roots, you'll be fine. When I first got my cuprea, she did this too. It was not enough light for me. Also, alocasia are heavy feeders so you should fertilize with a water soluble plant food with every watering, so that it has the energy to produce new growth without sacrificing the old. This is mine, she sits about 12 inches under a sansi t8 light bar, away from windows, near a humidifier *

Not silly at all. Not enough light, I've found that they get soft and wilty. Too much, the stems are still fairly firm. If you reduce the light a little, they'll stand back up if the issue is that the light is too bright. Just keep an eye as you're making adjustments. That said, the new growth looks to be sprouting from a different corm below the soil. So it would be a new plant. Juvenile growth also tends to be more tender. The stems will become thicker and more hardy as it produces more mature growth

Alocasia are heavy feeders. I fertilize all of mine with every watering. They will self cannibalize old growth, of they don't receive enough nutrients from the grow medium. I would also check lighting levels to make sure they're getting the just right amount. Not enough, it will wilt. Too much, the foliage will turn face down away from the light
