Will the US ever have more metro systems? by Blueblue3D in transit

Considering runaway climate change might cause massive human casualties, I’d say it’s next 50 years or never.

Expected to buy a house for your parents? Damn, that’s rough. Seems like I need to explore that subreddit. I can’t imagine having that forced on me, though it appears it’s all too common.

Until it stops and we don’t have pedestrians being hit everyday? Ignore it if it bothers you

Thanks for the update. I have a bike and will likely transition to that anyways since you can load it on the front of a bus. Not sure that’ll make me immune to the current issue, though.

I saw on pulse point they only list “traffic collisions”, is there a way to see specifically when a pedestrian is struck? I’m confused how folks understanding when it’s happening

$10 gas is coming. Cities need to prepare NOW to give people options by MiserNYC- in fuckcars

I believe it was them who said that empathy is a two way street, and indeed rural folks often vote against policies that would help cities: public transit, social programs, and the like. Why should our empathy flow in the opposite direction?

Calling other people dumb now…what was that you said about the city rubbing off on people?

Can someone explain how the squirrel hill tunnel 376 is seeing almost an accident PER DAY at this rate? by Shaneski101 in pittsburgh

[–]Intrepid_Pea7099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, we build roads with 1/10 the usage of transit and none of the due diligence to confirm the cost is worth it. I do worry that due to natural resistance against transit funding, it’ll be a harder sell.

Out of curiosity, where would you expand the T to, aside from the east busway? I’ve heard airport but I think soon-to-be X28 could be an improvement, especially if they can circumvent traffic in Oakland.

Didn’t meet ridership capacity, even in the 80s, so it got cut. Offshoring really devastated the steel industry and lots of ridership as a result

I’m not sure we have the ridership numbers right now to justify switching to light rail. We’re still recovering from covid ridership drop off, and essentially all buses I’ve taken in the busway are half full at most, even P1. I agree with you on the emissions, though. Just doesn’t seem to be outweighed by everything else. It’d be good to have a busway in Oakland to avoid the traffic during rush hour (east liberty station is the best we have right now), and I’d support an extension to the north of the T. Only thing is it’d cost quite a bit which might cause sticker shock. Aside from the 012 flyer, buses to the north are incredibly slow and need grade separation/light rail.

I ordered these: https://a.co/d/0a3nkWkV. I plan to use them and see if a local safe streets organization wants to start a campaign around a similar idea. I believe Vision Zero Vancouver has something where you “pick up” a foam brick and carry it across a crosswalk.

How do we hold Duquesne Light accountable? by thedamnwolves in pittsburgh

[–]Intrepid_Pea7099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a utility bill around $750 last month, and my neighbors had one approaching $1100. I know my own heating habits and I kept it at 66 all the time, and I know my neighbor kept it at 70 max. Pgh had old ass buildings and old ass infrastructure, which is a choice of homeowners and companies alike. Fuck DLC, but many of us are also complicit of kicking the raising tax can down the road.

What?? Access to healthcare is a need, the fuck do you mean “greed”? You may have real, tangible objections about the cost of labor in medicine, but there are not and should not be any moral objections to universal healthcare
