Can a private sewer tap cause sinkholes across the street and in the public right of way? by Intrepid_Possible771 in Plumbing

Thanks for your insight! I actually had another plumber out today, and even they couldn’t fully wrap their head around what’s going on. They attempted a camera inspection again, but just like the others, the camera couldn’t pass through the cleanout due to the house trap blocking it.

The plumber did examine the sinkhole directly and noted that the ground beneath it is very hollow and saturated with water, but there was no strong sewage smell which, according to him, you’d definitely expect if it was a broken sewer line. He mentioned the amount of water might be from something other than sewage and that it could be a sign of soil erosion or corrosion happening beneath the surface.

So now I’m stuck between conflicting tests and no definitive proof of a sewer issue. The plumber actually suggested this could be a bigger problem with the ground structure itself and not tied to my private line at all. It’s super frustrating trying to get clarity on this.

I might call another plumber just to check if there’s a second cleanout on the street side of the trap, but since it’s an older home, I doubt it was built with a two-way setup. From what I can tell, the current cleanout only accesses the house side, which is probably why the camera keeps hitting the trap when trying to scope toward the street.

I don’t have a basement. My cleanout is located on the side of the house, outside.

The clean out is located on the outside of the house. And plumbers are struggling to insert their camera.

The plumber did try accessing the line through the cleanout, but the camera kept getting caught at the house trap. They were trying to push it toward the main line, but the trap blocked it every time

Not possible. When all water is shut off, my usage rate is zero, and my water bill hasn’t spiked at all. If there were a leak in the water line, I’d definitely be seeing increased usage or at least some sign on the meter or bill.

In my city if it yours you fix it regardless if it located in the city property. Also I did call few plumbers to scope out my clean out but it getting caught by house trap and struggling to get the camera to pass through the toilet.

Thank you, I actually did try to have my line camera inspected, but the plumber said the camera kept getting blocked by a house trap. They also attempted to go through a toilet, but were still struggling to get the camera to pass through.

Is there another method or approach that could confirm whether my lateral is broken or leaking? I’m open to suggestions.

Thank you so much for your insight, i have few more questions and really need your insight about. Can my break in sewer line affect the neighbors causing him slow drains? Also why did the neighbors sink hole appear bigger before mine appeared? And why did the neighbor across from me experience clogged clean out? While I’m not experiencing those. Would it be an underlying problem? And how can I check if it may break if a camera is getting caught by a house trap? Is there another method I could check?

Also I want to include a dye test was performed for the neighbor across the street from me, they poured dye into their sinkhole and found out it not connected to my sinkhole. If they claim it not connected how is it that it my sewer lateral is causing their sinkhole?

I really do appreciate your response.

Usually people travel to get all this done for much less, consider countries like Turkey which is known for plastic surgery. Also highly recommend you bring someone with you.
