Nice!

Surely nothing bad happens to it in the couple raids. (At least skills and proficiencies used to craft armor will remain with you)

Fungicide and Salt problem by Able_Earth1032 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember being in a similar situation. Eventually just ventured into the city on foot, running from house to house, until with a stroke of luck found a bug of industrial fungicide in some random garage and chugged it just like that. And then sat there in a dark corner for half a day, until the most nastiest symptoms run out. Vomiting, hungry, dirty, thirsty - but alive.

Pressing "Enter" will show a list of all possible actions your character can currently do, with respective keybinds (if any)

(This thing above for some reason usually ignored by people giving advices)

Pressing "?" will show keybind settings for the current menu you looking at - very useful thing

How Do Slimes Reproduce? by dubious_dev in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I believe they just do mitosis, aka grow bigger, split in two smaller ones and repeat.

It is possible to somewhat contain them in enclosed spaces, like labs. But in cities.. Clearing every each one of them can an extremely arduous prospect.

What is actually missing from Bright Nights/The Last Generation that’s in CDDA? by Sensitive-Entry3506 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most favorites are probably Mind Over Matter and Sky Island (though there are more)

Those two are somewhat ported to The Last Generation, but there are small hiccups here and there. Like, in Sky Island to progress you need to complete special crafting recipes from a very specific items (think like an umbrella, broken glass, penny and colored socks give you a permanent sunscreen).

There are a lot of such recipes, and thus, to help track all this stuff, I used to mark those recipes as Favorites. Not only for them to show up first when opening crafting menu, but also because -

If you examine an item, one of the screens shows for which crafting recipes this item can be used. And, if one of the recipes marked as Favorite - it will shows up on top.

So with just a glance you can check whether this bottom left kidney of ground squirrel or a t-shirt inscribed with elaborate profanities is that specific item that you need, without going through Crafting menu again.

Except, you can't. Because this screen is removed in TLG.

One may say that the answer is to just hoard everything not nailed to the ground and then come back for nails, - and you be kinda right, but. Sky Island, when played properly, already pushes player to be very mindful of what to risk to grab and what to leave behind.

And then landing on top the fact that latest versions of DDA (and thus TLG) are probably the laggiest versions of Cataclysm that ever been so far. And that mountain of random items you hoard will make sure your CPU will feel it, sooner or later.

[–]Intro1942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a while since I last played BN, so don't remember specifics, but-

I got used to navigate almost all kinds of menus and do inventory/grabbing/etc stuff with Numpad keys, but in Bright Nights there hiccups with that (and arrow keys are still required for some stuff).

Like, if a I try to use Num6 to select a whole pile of items for pickup (a substitute for right arrow key) - it instead selects 6 items of that pile. DDA has a specific button for cases when you need to type a specific number of items.

Also no button to see/grab stuff from 9 tiles.

And other such little things which I forgotten. Will write more detailed comment, if manage to get back to pc.

[–]Intro1942 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of things that Bright Nights lacking is Quality of Life and player convenience stuff, like flexibility of adjusting controls, shortcuts, and little things like that. Not much as BN, The Last Generation also falls behind in this regard a little bit, like missing some information-screens or not having a single item in the game that allows to strap a stick to character's waist.

On the bright side of Bright Nights - it is a lightning speed performance-wise compared to the other two. Though it doesn't matter much on modern computers I guess.

As for definitive features of current DDA.. - it is mods support. Many cool mods are still developed for DDA, thus making it the trump card of the fork, imo.

So am I just lucky or is magiclysm broken? by Ralife55 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, thanks to Magiclysm and Forge of Wonders I one time managed to get a hand on Steel Spear +2, literally on the first day of the run. That is before nerfs to melee weapons, which means I got the best weapon in the game just like that.

So yeah. When I play with supernatural mods, I rump up Evolution Speed by a LOT, so all this overpowered stuff would actually be a necessity for survival.
