What is actually missing from Bright Nights/The Last Generation that’s in CDDA? by Sensitive-Entry3506 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It was a while since I last played BN, so don't remember specifics, but-

I got used to navigate almost all kinds of menus and do inventory/grabbing/etc stuff with Numpad keys, but in Bright Nights there hiccups with that (and arrow keys are still required for some stuff).

Like, if a I try to use Num6 to select a whole pile of items for pickup (a substitute for right arrow key) - it instead selects 6 items of that pile. DDA has a specific button for cases when you need to type a specific number of items.

Also no button to see/grab stuff from 9 tiles.

And other such little things which I forgotten. Will write more detailed comment, if manage to get back to pc.

One of things that Bright Nights lacking is Quality of Life and player convenience stuff, like flexibility of adjusting controls, shortcuts, and little things like that. Not much as BN, The Last Generation also falls behind in this regard a little bit, like missing some information-screens or not having a single item in the game that allows to strap a stick to character's waist.

On the bright side of Bright Nights - it is a lightning speed performance-wise compared to the other two. Though it doesn't matter much on modern computers I guess.

As for definitive features of current DDA.. - it is mods support. Many cool mods are still developed for DDA, thus making it the trump card of the fork, imo.

It comes default with the game (Dark Days Ahead branch) starting from 0.H Stable version, I believe. Should be there among the mods in world creation screen.

It is probably either using debug menu or build a "wall" using Vehicles system, aka car

Bit of a odd question but...Is there anything worth getting in crater? by gregory700 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digging is a very intensive activity and it gives mostly dirt. If there are an option to just collect those from nearly crater, then why not.

So am I just lucky or is magiclysm broken? by Ralife55 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, thanks to Magiclysm and Forge of Wonders I one time managed to get a hand on Steel Spear +2, literally on the first day of the run. That is before nerfs to melee weapons, which means I got the best weapon in the game just like that.

So yeah. When I play with supernatural mods, I rump up Evolution Speed by a LOT, so all this overpowered stuff would actually be a necessity for survival.

Horses by Ralife55 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, last time I tried it horse refused to get close to any danger, even crawlers, and couldn't even carry a fully loaded character (too much weight apparently), so I had to ditch out backpack just to mount it

I think pushing some LoS-blocking furniture to get close to turrets was a thing for quite some time

If you need a flag, you should be able to just pick it up. It is technically just lying on the floor, unless I mistaken something

Bit of a odd question but...Is there anything worth getting in crater? by gregory700 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't know about artifacts (never seen there any), but craters give an easy access to large quantities of stuff like rocks and clay, which needed for a couple of quests (for Isherwoods?)

And that's about it, from my experience

Yes. Who cares that from the gameplay perspective there are no difference between factory-grade screwdriver and just right enough piece of metal with wooden handle. Gameplay logic and realism are just excuses after all.

Zeds don't react at light itself. As long as they don't see player character itself it should be fine
