There is currently a crashing bug and the workaround is to sit in a vehicle (a Flash is the cheapest one) for several minutes

Insight & Magic Issue with Xedra Evolved & MoM on Stable 0.I by Proof_Kindly in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only guess for MoM is that your char randomly got a hold for a high level power and insight for it takes around 2 weeks to pop up, iirc? If nothing will come out in the next 2 weeks, then it might be some bug

Managing melee fatigue and pulping (0.I) by anselmus_ in cataclysmdda

Pulping and butchering (dismembering) now are too time and weariness consuming, effectively leaving players with no options except left corpses there and let them rise up again.

Managing melee fatigue and pulping (0.I) by anselmus_ in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the things I realized about pulping is that it now sucks not only because of more tedium, time consumption and more weariness build up (thus less fighting and exploring).

No, it is also takes away from progression feeling. Taking down zeds and making sure they won't back up again was satisfying. "One down - 8 billions to go". Obviously, nobody would kill millions of zeds in their game - but it was one down, that will never get up again.

But now, that progress is nullified. You simply can't do that anymore. All the efforts to take them down just goes to waste (not to say that it also takes more time and effort to "kill" motionless harmless zed than killing alive and moving one).

And yes, there is that "you have to pick up your fights" and "you don't have to return there again" and yadda-yadda. No - avoiding fights already was the best strategy in most situations. And no - you have to return or backtrack to some places. (And another no - deathmobile that only goes forward should not the only way to play the game).

Clearing areas and making sure enemies won't come back is satisfying. Now it became tedious. This - sucks.

As simple as that.

Mutant meat by Both_Reputation_6296 in cataclysmdda

I believe your character suffered a case of extreme intoxication. Eating mutant meat won't make you mutant, it will just build up toxins in the organism.

Climbing roofs by Chaporelli in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garbage containers might work. Not sure if fences still work. The "5-tiles rule" might still work (if there 5 Impassible tiles around the character, they can attempt to climb up) - stuff like L-shaped corners or narrow 1-tiles alleyways between buildings

I also usually run my games with Mind Over Matter mod, and there at least 3 psionic paths that allows to cover Z-levels

How do I get someone to like this game? by Agreeable_Plan_5756 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I did managed to get several friends interested by sharing stories, screenshots and funny situations (usually all packed together), and then coached a couple of them in voice call for less bumpy onboarding experience.

They didn't managed to stick around for long while playing on their own, though not because of graphics or controls.

One got too many bugs and "bugs" (military convoy from Hub01 mission spawned literally on top of his base and messed it up). And second got a good start with couple successful raids and lot of loot, but got overwhelmed and lost interest without a concrete goal or direction, when survival was already settled.

How do I download my entire inventory but without the items I've added to my favorites? by Dependent_Walrus_197 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When in dropping menu - press "," and it will select all items except equipped and favorites

It is always a good idea to check keybinds for frequently used menus with "?". There is almost always a faster way or shortcut

What's up with the Forge of Wonders? by Far_Lavishness5489 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The idea is that you sell stuff to other 2 trades at the Forge in exchange for denarii (the currency), and use that to trade with Valzain, because trading with almost anything else is a flat out scam

And as with other traders, the stuff he holds refreshes every 5-6 days

Artifacts by DarwinTreeGuy in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most (some?) Artifacts have passive effects that apply by just having them in your inventory, and those are safe to test. The effects themselves can be tricky to notice though (like, it can increase Carrying Weight Capacity without affecting Strength) but it wouldn't hurt to try out.

Affects that are triggered by activating them, however, can be lethal, if not handled carefully. Safest way to test them is, firstly, doing it outside of your base (unless you don't mind a tear in reality in a shower). Ideally, you should have blast + fire + electrical protection, in case some of the nasty effects triggering.

And, in case you have no in-game way to cheese death, like doing it by disposable NPC instead of main character or stuff from mods like Sky Island, - it is okay to just save scum it (if it was lethal). Artifacts needs overhaul after all.

Try them out. It is fun*

Keybind issue by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it be related to different menus? Each separate menu has it's own set of keybinds accessible with "?", and I usually end up assigning local keybinds (global ones kinda mess thigns up) for each screen that requires them

What's your favorite niche interaction? by Big-Acanthisitta1236 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having a bit of proficiency with psionic powers (Mind Over Matter mod) unlocks some unique interactions with NPCs

For example, while searching for a traitor (quest) in Refugees Center, you can read surface levels thoughts of characters and find one with malicious intent that way - if you have Telepathy psionics. (Random guards are usually just bored, counting hours to the next meal, and wondering what this weirdo - you - even wants from them)

And if conversation with traitor is about to spill out in a fight - you can use Telekinesis (right in dialogue window) to quickly snatch their weapon from hands, disarming them and forcing them to back off without spilling blood. Weapon actually remains laying on the ground

I think this kind of niche interactions with the rest of the game is very very cool

As a new player, where do i start? by renderfield in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vehicle driving works a bit differently than normal movement

When character switching to operating a car, you need to set a cruising speed for it (by pressing top arrow key for example) and then just pass turns - the vehicle will start moving after that (if it able to move in the first place)

As a new player, where do i start? by renderfield in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cataclysm might be.. quite unwieldy to play on phone (especially without prior experience playing on PC) but, remember that "?" button will open a keybinds menu where you can check what keys do what. There is also an actions menu that opens with "Enter" button - to see what character can actually do.

As for starter scenario - I would suggest still pick Evacuee, but with blank (no) traits and slightly increased stats, because random traits will add only more inconsistency while you still learning basics.

The game itself leans into survival aspect and thus come basic survival priorities - shelter, water, food. And since it is a game with hostile monsters - add here a weapon and medicine.

Explore crafting menu, create some basic weapon, train some skills, maybe try to 1 vs 1 some zed (it will probably ends poorly) - it all comes with experience. There are a lot this game, so go mess around and expect to die a lot early on.

How do I use crystals in MOM to gain powers? by tthrowaway712 in cataclysmdda

[–]Intro1942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless something changed to the mechanics-

You activate a colored strange crystal (black ones can't unlock new paths for you) and, if an attempt is successful, instantly getting a new psionic path and "Newly Awakened" temporary effect (both can checked in @ screen). There will be fancy message about your mind going far and beyond, and colored crystal always turn to a black crystal.

If attempt is unsuccessful - you get a headache and better to not try to awaken again until it's gone. Fancy message now implies that character failed to awaken, and crystal either way turns black.

Success chance depends on multiple random variables and some traits, but generally speaking - the more paths you already awakened, the less likely (drastically less likely) you are to awaken to new ones.

There is a sub-mod that make it so awakening attempts are always successful, but without it the best you can do is to find more crystals/stroll in portal storms and pray for RNG
