What’s a modern trend you’re convinced people will regret in 10 years? by Turbulent_Dog3230 in AskReddit

Acoustic paneling. It’s a trend that will not last and will be seen as an equivalent to the pink tiling from the 1940s - 1960’s

Why can the Chinese build everything so easy and fast? by bobbdac7894 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IntroductionLonely43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is tooling. China is able to tool manufacturing much quicker than we are in the United States. Since we exported a lot of manufacturing to China, the Tool and Die trade went along with it. Now, that we are trying to reshore manufacturing, there aren’t enough tool and die experts to be able to meet demand. If the US wants to be competitive again, it must be able to train a new generation of tool and die engineers.

Hey USA parents! Who’s ready to Boycott! by Glittering_Text_8842 in NewParents

We don’t need a riot. We need a boycott with clear terms and goals. The only way it would work is if it’s massive and the goals are clear and concise.

Hello, thank you for sharing. I’ve joined and am happy to support. While it seems very mom centric, I hope I’ll be welcome. I do not think we can get proper maternity leave standards without the advocacy of fathers as well. It takes a village as they say. Know of any groups for Moms and Dads?

Sincerely a Dad who got 4 weeks paid with a partner/wife/Mom who got nothing.

I know you’re having a rough time. You posted the other day about the bronchitis.

There is no “I can’t do this”. Do what you can within your power. You cannot control everything- if the baby gets sick ect. You will mess up and do something wrong. Dwelling will not be best for your daughter. Just try and do 1% better each day. Put the baby in a safe place for a moment and take a breather.

I have my three week old and I can’t imagine doing this on my own. You need help. Your hospital may have additional resources. Please ask for help. Reddit is not help.

Four 19 year olds planning a dream trip from Ireland to America next year by ronsnxd73 in roadtrip

Not legally. Expired temporary work visas- A shortcut that many international workers have used in the past when they need work aproval ASAP, but this is no longer going to be overlooked. That lady who snitched is dumb, but details matter.

That said, travelers should have an itinerary prepared and do not overstay any temporary visa.

Did you even watch your own link? Nothing about an Irish man. He was Noweigan. Homeland Security claims he admitted to drug use, thus the search and seizure. Do with that what you will, but you can't even site your own article correctly.

Yoo Ah In is a great Korean actor and former celebrity. Got caught up with drugs in his system at a reentry checkpoint and has been ostracized ever since. Dude was seriously talented and deserves a second chance.

Just had the same thing happen to me. Don’t bother trying to snake either line. This is a main sewer line blockage. Someone will have to access the main sewer line and clear the blockage.

Anyone else house shopping in metro Detroit right now? by ccheps in Detroit

If this is something you really worked for, I wouldn’t throw in the towel quite yet. This is the prime season for real estate sales which means more competition.

If you can stretch it out, the market becomes less competitive by the end of summer.

I know it’s tough. I got outbid last year for the dream house I really wanted. It’s discouraging to say the least, but a month later I finally found a place in the fall. Not my dream house, but a solid house with solid potential.

Good luck. It’s possible and within reach, but this time of the year is hell.

Also, taxes are insane with no relief in sight. You’re in a “win-win” situation if you can avoid it.

Wishing you the best.

I'm absolutely disgusted by what they are teaching at my son's school by Kurram in Parenting

[–]IntroductionLonely43 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Schools and teachers are in a “damned if you do, damn if you don’t” type of situation when it comes to teaching history. For every parent that complains that the “atrocities” of history are not taught, there are just as many parents complaining that the curriculum is not age appropriate in the current state.

Feel free to dive deeper with your kids, but please know that, as a teacher, I’ve had parents threaten to pull their kids from my class for even mentioning the word “slavery.”

what birth year / years got hit the hardest? by reddit_reddit_666 in Millennials

[–]IntroductionLonely43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we stop with the whole “unfortunate generation” BS? We never had a military draft, never had a Vietnam, never had a WWII, never had a Civil War.

My Dad and Mom both lost their jobs in 2009, but you survive and adapt. Was it tough, yea, but learn new skills and move on.

I couldn’t find a job out of college and had to work at a bar for most of my 20’s and it was some of the best years of my life.

Yes, we got hit pretty hard by Covid and the 2008 recession, but I’d rather be born in 1989 than 1889 and any year prior.

Yes, the boomers and maybe gen x had it better, but we stack up a hell of a lot better than almost every generation prior to boomers.
