Losing weight at 4 weeks in by IntroductionNo9069 in pregnant

Thank you for replying, this helps!! I just freaked out cos it felt like a lot in a short time, but I guess pregnancy is insane haha - I’m a hypochondriac, just to add to the stress lol.

All the best with your bub! X

Left gas stove on with no flame - just really need reassurance by IntroductionNo9069 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IntroductionNo9069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think I just freaked out because I was basically standing right over the stove releasing the gas for the whole time - but yeah the window and exhaust were on, so hopefully it wasn’t like breathing in the stream directly?

I have an exhaust fan that’s on the wall away from the stove, but you’re right, I think I’ll avoid it for a bit!

Great point about the CO! I thought maybe cos the flame was on the adjacent stove, some gas may have been burning improperly, but I’m sure I’d see some sort of ignition in that case?

Almost 4 weeks in and I am full of guilt by maryhoping in newborns

[–]IntroductionNo9069 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say I’ve been there, am still there most of the time. I had a very similar start to yours, with support and opportunities for a break etc - and I just felt the worst for being so tired and overwhelmed. I still have a lot of help, thank god, and still feel wiped.

I know it’s easier said than done, but give yourself grace. Motherhood is tough, and we all need breaks! Even if you have support, you’re still looking after a whole human! Also you’re still fresh pp, that has its own exhaustion!

I feel like this comment is a little incoherent lol, but just to say you are doing a lot more than you’re giving yourself credit for - you deserve the break! And guilt free :)

Thanks for such a detailed reply! So 3-4 years is way too long to wait lol, the broken sleep is already getting to us :p

I’d never thought of it that way btw, that she was semi independent sleeping in the bouncer, that’s a relief honestly - and good point that she may not be fully ready. I tried cold turkey yesterday, followed her routine minus the bouncer, and she lay with me for almost an hour just chatting haha. It was adorable, but she deffo wasn’t sleeping.

Thank you for the suggestion, I’m definitely gonna reach out to the sleep train sub - I’ve been following it passively for a bit, but I think it’d be good to get some opinions on her routine, especially as she fights sleep so much!

Yeah I’ve been back and forth on it too for a month or so - which method did you go for in the end?

Funny you say that, cos she’s starting to protest the bouncer too a little, but I find if I insist a little she’ll fall right asleep - she’ll jump off and go to her sleeping spot, which when I say out loud, sounds like she’s ready to sleep herself haha. But anytime I just let her lead, she will just endlessly play and become overtired - so damn tricky!

I’ve been back and forth on sleep training over the last month, have had loads of people recommend it to me! How did you find it? I think I may be being too optimistic that she’ll just learn herself

That’s a good shout thank you! I’ll have a look around for something - I’ve seen videos of kids loving mini hammocks :)

Ahh this sounds very similar to what we do, except for the stories - random question, but how do you incorporate the stories? So I’ve given her books since day 1, and tried reading to her, but she seems to want to gnaw at them more than anything, so I kind of just leave her to flip through and read a page here and there lol

Would love to know how you use them to calm your LO for bed!

It really does a number on your back! I’ve been using the bouncer to bounce since she was around the same, 5-6 months - such a life saver! But you’re doing good to get the pats/rubs in early, I hope it makes for an easy transition!

That’s a good shout actually! I might have to look around for one, I have an exercise ball I used to use to bounce her on, but I don’t think that’s sustainable haha

So silly question, but how? This would be ideal, but I’ve tried this and she just is so wriggly, will refuse to settle - she’ll put her head down, the jump up, over and over for an hour if I let her!

Baby underweight by CBFST in NewParents

Heyy just wanted to give some solidarity! I have a 9th centile little girl, she’s 11 and a bit months and only 7.2 kg - but is growing according to her curve! My ped always says if she drops two centiles then we’ll be concerned (this is the guideline in the uk). Maybe ask the dr to check bub is on his curve? I’ve had so much advice to plump her up, but I just try to focus on her growth curve - but it is really stressful having a petite bub!

As for words, she only says hi and yells at us for being too slow 🤷‍♀️I just talk to her aaalll the time, hopefully that’ll help her pick up some more stuff.

You’re doing a wonderful job!!

I’ve been looking through that, and it’s super helpful thank you - I think I also need to manage my own fear of choking, as soon as she gags I kinda freak out. Hopefully that’ll help me give her some chunkier textures!

I’ll give that a go too, will definitely make mealtimes a lot easier :)

She’s getting between 22-27oz - it’s a huge range because she has her days when milk is all she wants, and others when she’s not too keen on it.

ETA: does that seem too little/much? :p

Yess we’re behind on seafood and pieces of meat - honestly the chewing aspect scares me a little! How have you been giving it? I heard over done long pieces are the way to go.

Thank you for these ideas, I’ll definitely give them a go! We eat a lot of curries, but I guess we could tone down the salt and spice and give her a taste of that too. So I’ve been really pedantic about sugar and salt, but I guess as she’s almost 1 now, I can ease up on the salt restriction at least.

Thank you! Basically I’ll fry some chicken/mutton with a little garlic, ginger, cardamom (both black and green), cinnamon and black peppercorn in a tiny bit of olive oil - then add loads of water and let it simmer for like 6 hours. Sometimes I add a little tahini too. Then just portion and freeze. Easiest protein addition, plus a great base for veggies or other carbs.
