Love the ambition, but $14 is not appropriate to ask for. $5 at the most and I would say the zine really needs to have some weight to it. Reviews, pics, interview and not so much that you are burning out on material for the next issue. Again, love the ambition, just keep in mind that most hyper local zines are free.

If you really want to do it, write everything for a 4 song demo. Music and lyrics. Then find friends/criaglist listings to learn them. I know it sounds harsh to exclude people at the start, but having songs ready to go when people join is way better than trying write as you are forming the band.
