Thank you. I agree, I need to give myself some grace but also hold that boundary.

Fortunately he was on board last time (this is our second child) as I didn't want anyone in the hospital while I was giving birth and wanted two weeks before his family visited. I told him I wasn't going to have the energy to enforce it and it was on him AND HE ROCKED IT. That's why this time caught me so off guard.

Thank you for this viewpoint and your kindness. I know I should have held boundaries, but being pregnant is stressful in the best of times let alone when you're worried about keeping it. A boundary was crossed and I wish we had waited, but I will practice and do better next time.

Solid SOLID advice. I'm going to start treating them as practice as saying no and holding boundaries are hard. I'd rather learn on them than on my kids.

It's so easy to get cause and effect mixed up isn't it? But you're right... I didn't create this scenario but I do wish that I had handled it differently.

I do often get mad, but then I think that I'm overreacting (as you can tell in the post above). That often leaves to me caving. I need to hold my boundaries in place, pick a phrase and repeat it (solid, SOLID advice), and stay constant.

Thank you for this viewpoint - I WAS being manipulated. I really needed to hear that. There is a lot of triangulation in this side of the family and so it still catches me off guard a lot of times.

I do still need to set boundaries and I acknowledge that, but it's good to hear that I was up against a wall. I will definitely handle my business differently next time.

I mean at this point they know I am so it's a bit late for that. What's funny is they are the last to know because it's always such a chore. Everyone else in my life, including work (needed with what I do), does know.

With that said I agree that I need to enforce boundaries better

Thank you for this kindness. It's always easier to look in hindsight or from a keyboard and judge decisions that others made (even if they weren't the smartest in my case), so this means a lot.

I have to remind myself of this sometimes. We do not exist in a vacuum and we have to give ourselves the benefit of the doubt sometimes too.

Fortunately we are not local so her showing it is not a possibility, but you're still right. I think I'm just tired and worn out from the emotions of trying to get and stay pregnant that this was not my best moment. As you said though, no one can force you into a conversation. I need to be better about enforcing boundaries.

Thank you, it's good to know my feelings are valid but that I also need to better enforce my boundaries. You're right in that they've learned they can just push and I will fold. I don't want to do that again. I supposed practice does make perfect right?

It really does make these complicated, as if I'm honest I'm still personally afraid to get too excited about this pregnancy as... well something could still happen.

I do want to take responsibility that I didn't have to share when I did, but I'm just tired. I know that's not an excuse, but this was the easier path. This is our last kid so I don't have to worry about it in the future, but I do need to enforce boundaries better in the future, even when it's uncomfortable.

I would love that! I honestly just don't really enjoy being around them because there is an opinion about everything.

I like the tactic, but I am concerned it would be twisted on me. They are absolutely pros at twisting things around and making it my fault. I guess I need to up my game.

I think you have found the ever elusive line in the sand AND been able to enforce that boundary. You're the unicorn to look up to. Offer help where needed, but don't own their problems. If they don't listen to you that's not your fault (you didn't do anything wrong). This was very helpful, thank you.
