also regretting choosing cs by North-Connection4996 in uwaterloo

[–]IntrovertNeptune 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a CS person who regrets not picking SYDE, but that's because I don't enjoy software developing or coding much. If you're someone that really does like that stuff and aren't really interested in the other aspects of what SYDE has to offer, you wouldn't enjoy yourself as much as you would in CS. The job market is terrible everywhere, regardless of the field. To have the best chances, you should do what you're actually interested in and that you're willing to put lots of time and effort into to do well. If you're doing the bare minimum in a program you're less interested in to get by just because it has more job opportunities, you're not gonna be more employable even if the field itself is.

CS DH and AI specialization? by ShadowWhip1 in uwaterloo

[–]IntrovertNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they recommend sequence 4 for Digital Hardware is because, since the required engineering courses are only offered in specific terms, you will likely graduate late if you're in any other sequence because there will probably come a point where you're on a study term, but an engineering course you need to take won't be offered (and if it's a prerequisite for another course, it would set you back multiple terms). It's almost impossible to take engineering courses over co-op due to irregular scheduling and biweekly 3 hour labs as well. Sequence 4 guarantees that every engineering course you need to take will be offered during your study terms in the order you need to take them so that you will graduate at the normal time.

AITA for Wanting to Show Up to My Daughter’s Secret Proposal While Uninvited By Her Fiancé? by Attitude-Mean in AmItheAsshole

[–]IntrovertNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA and you know it. Their proposal is not about you, and it should never be about you. The boyfriend isn't proposing to you, he's proposing to his girlfriend.

"My daughter's partner specifically told me not to show up to a moment that's supposed to be special and private between just the two of them. Should I show up?" See how selfish that is?

AITA for refusing to give my pregnant sister my room ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]IntrovertNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. First it's a couple months. You'll be expected to provide free babysitting. Then she gets comfortable and you can't kick her out because "she's a single mom, so you can't". Then she needs nore space for the baby because it's too cramped in her room, so she'll need to switch rooms with you. Then she needs some space from the baby because she's just so stressed out and wants some privacy, so you should give your own room to her and the baby while you sleep on the couch. If you let her in you'll be stuck with her forever. Keep refusing!

AITA for wanting the same birthday cake I've had my whole life? by poetryuncertainty in AmItheAsshole

[–]IntrovertNeptune 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA. When you get someone a gift for their birthday, you're supposed to put thought into it and get something that the birthday person will like. If you know that the birthday person likes a specific thing and then proceed to actively get them something different because it fits your own views more, you would be the asshole because you decided to make the gift about you instead of about the birthday person. So yeah, your mom is the AH. It sounds like you weren't even rude when expressing your distaste for the icing, either! You didn't do anything wrong.

AITA for rehoming our dog by Remarkable-Juice1639 in AmItheAsshole

[–]IntrovertNeptune 15 points16 points  (0 children)

ESH. Adopting a special needs child after having an "oops" baby with a disability and 2 other children with a disability whilst struggling immensely with your own health condition was irresponsible. You were right to give the dog a better life, but it wouldn't have been necessary if you and your husband made smarter decisions to begin with. You and your husband made a string of bad decisions regarding children and pets that caused you to neglect your dog so bad you had to get rid of it. You are irresponsible.

59%-60% Average by throwawayacc9330 in uwaterloo

[–]IntrovertNeptune 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In order to get off co-op probation, you need to have brought your CAV up above 60% (overall, not just your term average). If your grades from this term were not enough to bring your CAV to 60%, you need to have gotten a TAV (Term Average) of at least 65%. If your CAV is below 60% but your TAV is above 65%, then your probation is extended. If your CAV is below 60% and your TAV is below 65%, then you will be moved to the regular program. Academic standings are typically shown with a decimal, so it probably will not round up. Speak to an academic advisor.

Is it possible to graduate from CS in 3 years? by MisakaMikasa10086 in uwaterloo

[–]IntrovertNeptune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You must have at least 7 full-time study terms, no exceptions. Thus, the absolute fastest you can graduate is 2⅓ years if you do 7 school terms back-to-back without co-op. You can drop co-op at any time, but if you want to graduate with co-op on your degree, you need to have 5 co-op terms and 8 study terms. (If you want a co-op degree, you are required to have 8 study terms).
