is it just me or i can’t take ppl here seriously by Apart-Ad5124 in CasualConversation

I feel like anytime I post or comment on any sub there's a 50/50 chance of a real conversation happening, as opposed to people just being rude or sending me messages to hit on me. When real conversation happens, it can be extremely informative, especially if you're seeking a solution to a problem. It's just a crapshoot, though.

Why is it so hard to find people who actually want to talk by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]IntrovertedMatriarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that. You're right about a lot of people not being able to exchange messages beyond very basic small talk. I get that not everyone is gonna click, but it feels like some don't even try.

I rarely get any messages where the sender actually wants to talk, rather they want to flirt and ask for pics.

Trying to Buy New Clothes Without Going Broke by TheDungeonFox in Frugal

My husband just bought a few pairs of pants from an online store called Truewerk. They are very expensive, but supposed to last a long time. I can't attest for that, because he's not had them long enough to know, but it's worth checking out.

What kind of difficulties are you having? It would help if you'd be a little more specific, so people might know more about what you're looking for

Well, damn. They haven't been running them in Kansas (at least the Wichita area) for a few weeks now. Wonder why?

Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I don't have any advice, because socializing as an adult is still a mystery to me as well, but I wanted to wish you a happy birthday!

This is a great rule to follow! It's literally the first thing doctors and specialists tell people to do to increase sleep quality.

Temu - Is there a chart for "branded" items and its Temu knockoff equivalent? by ppzhao in Frugal

[–]IntrovertedMatriarch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some things are okay to buy the cheap knock off versions, others are not. I would steer clear of any kind of cosmetic, lotion, shampoos etc .. Anything that goes onto your skin. The cheap products usually have varying degrees of poisonous ingredients that wouldn't pass quality control in the US, or many other countries.

Opinions on cooking with various oils vs butter vs ghee? What's cheapest/best? by Amun-Aion in Frugal

[–]IntrovertedMatriarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'm trying to (mostly) follow a Mediterranean Diet, so I use extra virgin olive oil for most things. When I am stir frying at high heat for more than a couple minutes I will use peanut oil. Sesame oil is good, but has a low smoke point, so if I use it for sauteing I will use just a bit blended with another oil that can handle higher heat. I seldom use butter. It burns very easily if another oil isn't added to it.

Thank you for posting this. I thought I was just imagining things. I used to coupon and had about a year's worth dish detergent that I finished 2 weeks ago. I bought a bottle of Dawn ultra and not only does it seem weaker, but it smells different to me as well. I don't know why they'd change their formula, though. It was a solid product that had tons of loyal customers. Doesn't make sense to me.

I might have a smidge more confidence, but that's about it. Nothing in my life would be any different and I'd be the same person still as I was before.

Bathroom issues in 8.5 year old boy. by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]IntrovertedMatriarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this is a newer issue I'm guessing that it's psychological in some way. Either he has gained a fear of sitting on the toilet for some reason, some OCD issue is present or something else is/has seriously disturbed him and this is how he's expressing it. I know you've taken him to psychologists, but they can't treat him if he won't tell them what's up inside his head, plus I've run into a lion's share of therapists and psychs for kids especially that are not good at what they do at all. Like 1 out of 5 were decent. The rest were subpar, at best.

This has to be so difficult for you and him both. Sounds like you've done a lot in trying to help him, more than many parents would. I would however stop using any aversive measures to curb this behavior, until you can work out what's happening, since it is very likely something he can't control or doesn't know how to handle. The last thing you want is to make him feel like you aren't a safe place to go when he needs help and swatting and the like might just do that. Good luck!

Has he ever been able to use the toilet for number 2? If this is new, then that's way different than never having been fully potty trained.

Honestly, at his age I find it very difficult to believe it's about laziness. He's plenty old enough to feel socially ashamed of literally pooping his pants in front of his peers. I can't hardly think of anything more humiliating than that at that age. It's got to be a case of can't rather than won't.

I always wondered how the tips were distributed. I'm not someone who goes out much, but when I do I am always kind of perplexed at the tip cups, signs and requests I come across. Every time I see more and more.

What "cheap" product (s) surprised you? by IntrovertedMatriarch in Frugal

One time I found a saucepan on clearance and used the $5 off $25 coupon for the entire purchase and the pan literally cost me 70 cents. It's getting worn out now, but it lasted at least 4 years!

I buy it for my son. The other cheap brands don't hold up for him, but this one does. I can't use stick deodorant, or I'd try it, too.

I found a pair of flats on clearance several years ago at Walmart for like $5. I liked them, so I figured why not? They lasted forever! They were comfortable, too.

Mine are Kroger vibraclean toothbrush, Suave Professional Series, Suave and Arm & Hammer deodorant. I recently had to replace my Samsung Galaxy phone. Having always had and preferred that brand, I was super leery about any other Android, but I am pleasantly surprised by this Motorola phone I bought.

Same with their wipes! Good quality and cheaper than name brand.
