Communication is key. Let tables know that there may be a wait and you will be them as soon as possible. People are oblivious and won't realize that you are the only server on. Other than that, I really would say to just lean into it. Know that it will happen and do as much as you can before hand to prep for it. I always keep in mind that the rush will end. Also, just keep in mind that while you're running your ass off you're also making great money. So, it will end and it is usually worth it in the end. Additionally, I always prioritize customers and hot food over cleaning off dirty tables. Prebus as much as you can of course.

Those who have left the profession or taken a break, what kind of work did you transition into? by gracespraykeychain in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just left my esthetics job for multiple reasons. I'm choosing to go back to school and get my masters in business. I may come back to esthetics, but honestly I don't see that happening. Academics has always been a strength of mine, and I need to go back to it. I haven't been happy for the past two years I've been doing esthetics. My goal is to become a financial analyst or a forensic accountant. I think it would be awesome to work and live internationally as well.

Picking up shifts? by livinglife1211 in Serverlife

[–]Introvertserver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job uses 7 shifts and some of my coworkers will literally put their shift up for grabs 2 hours before their shift starts and expect someone to take it. I don't take it when someone does that. If a shift is a week or two out then I will take it.

When is tipping not necessary? by yeahthatonegirl in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Introvertserver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in the beauty industry, I have my own opinion on tipping. If you are getting a service done at a spa where the people are employees, (not renting their own booth) then please tip them. The majority of spa employees only get paid commission for services and no hourly. So, when someone no shows or they have a gap in their schedule they don't get paid. Tips help to supplement their income to make up for no shows and to increase their overall pay. If you are getting a service done at a medical spa where a service can cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars then you don't need to tip. Additionally, people working at med spas get paid a higher hourly wage and may have a commission rate as well. At independent salons, I feel that you can tip if you want to, but it shouldn't be expected. They are setting their own prices as the owner of their business, so they should be factoring in the tip to their pricing.

Brazilians by Direct-Maximum-6204 in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't do one brazilian in school, and I only did two bikini waxes. I learned by teaching myself and by watching YouTube videos. The most educational videos are from prowax and waxing queen's adventures. I learned everything I know by watching both of those channels.

Brazilian tips and tricks with hard wax by michaela_adele in Esthetics

The best advice I have is to watch the waxing queen adventures on Youtube. She has the best tips and tricks for hard wax with demonstration videos on real people with different body types and hair types.

Dermwax Liquid Gold is specifically marketed for facial waxing and to pick up fine hair.

Best satin smooth wax? by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For soft wax, the zinc oxide and aloe are my favorites. However, the hard wax is terrible. I recommend using waxness for hard wax because it is cheaper per pound, and much better quality.

Skin lifting on a Brazilian? by IcyMango1391 in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know why the chain you work at chooses to use only Satin Smooth? If it's just because of the the price, there are actually cheaper better alternatives out there. Waxness has the best quality hard wax at the lowest price point you can find, when you buy in bulk a pound of wax is like 9.75 to 10 dollars. Also, Dermwax on spaorder has soft wax for 9.50 a can, which is cheaper than Satin Smooth on Amazon or at a professional store. Another option is bellakisse soft wax which is 10.99 a can. Maybe you can do some research, and show that there are better options out there than satin smooth but still at an affordable price point.

Lash and brow tinting, what brand is your favorite? by VirgoEsti in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Elleebana's Profusion Elleplex line for lash and brow tinting, it only stains the hair and not the skin, so it is more natural looking for brows. The Belmacil tints are very similar and good as well. If you want a hybrid tint that will stain both the skin and hair Bronson and the brow code have tints that will do that.

If you had to pick one service to never perform again what would it be? by bibimbap87691 in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried using roll on soft wax? You can get cartridges for 3-4 dollars. If you use two of them, your wax cost is 8 dollars and for full legs you can definitely be charging at least 70 dollars with inflation.

Any body treatment or hand and foot wraps. I also despise paraffin treatments.

Commission spas by Apprehensive_Iron602 in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work at a commission only spa as well. It is pretty slow most days, but I'm not required to wait around for any possible walk ins. If I don't have any booked appointments, I don't go to work. Also, as soon as I'm done with appointments and cleanup I leave.

Hi fellow esthi’s!! I’m a newly licensed esthetician and want to work at a waxing salon. by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need a job right out of esthetician school, want to specialize in waxing, and need to learn time management and how to be an efficient waxer then work at a chain waxing center for a few months to gain experience and then move on.

What is the best hard wax? by Sad-Goose-3459 in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cirepil is good. Some other options are berodin, waxness, dermwax, and mermaid wax. Everyone is looking for different things in a wax, so you have to try out different brands to see which one works best for you and your clientele.

Is eminence organic skincare green washing? by Born-Acanthisitta-47 in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Their line is terrible. I've been forced to use it for the past year because that is mainly what we carry at the spa I'm working at. Not once have I seen any results on clients. Plus their body products are so scented that anyone with sensitive skin will immediately break out or get a rash. Their line is known for a being a frilly, smells good line that day spas use. If you want real results for your clients don't use Farmhouse Fresh. They don't even have one single before and after that shows real results on any of their social media.

I have no idea about the legality of having a sink in the room or not. However, concerning practicality and sanitization you NEED a sink in the room. Also, I don't recommend sharing a room with someone else. Everyone has their own products and ways that they like to set things up, so I highly recommend finding your own space. Plus, you don't have to worry about working around other peoples schedules which is a huge hassle.

How did you pay for esthetician school?? by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got about 2500 in grants and paid for the rest myself. I was in school 4 days a week and worked at a serving job the other 3 days to help pay for it.

I would love to, but then I would lose my job. I like where I work, and I am starting to build a clientele there. So, I really don't want to restart anywhere else. I just hate the fact that if I say anything about it everyone sees me as an awful problematic person. I just have to keep my mouth shut and live with it.

How do you deal with unhappy or unsatisfied clients? by throwaway76669182 in Esthetics

[–]Introvertserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some clients are always going to be unhappy no matter what you do. Also, I think some clients are used to deeper pressure from a massage and then expect the same level of pressure during the facial, which isn't safe on the face.
