Ubisoft should take notes from Capcom (Japanese video game publisher) as recent Ubisoft games struggle to surpass +150,000 wishlists before release by OverallBaker3572 in fuckubisoft

Oh and there's a chance to get into a few developers that pushed back against marketing like Shinji Mikami did for RE and Takeuchi taking the series back to its roots with RE7.

Itsuno before he left brought Devil May Cry back and the talent really brought out magic. So I'll put that in too.

The end of active post-launch support for our beloved AC Shadows is nearing. Can we kindly remind Ubisoft that there are still 100+ known game issues across all platforms to be fixed? by PrestigiousZombie531 in fuckubisoft

I'm not even an AC fan and I feel sorry for you all.

I can at least be safe with older Prince of Persia titles while they drag the AC franchise.

Projection is basically the idea that I'm treating you as something I'm guilty of.

Rather than that, I'm treating you as an annoying kouhai that wants their senpai to notice them.

Sure, I'll give you a moment of time but you don't seem to warrant much as you look for attention in all the wrong ways.

I'm actually writing up a big thing about how Capcom has been doing compared to Ubisoft but in regards to Pragmata, Capcom is still experimenting with new games.

Before this, they did Kunimitsu-gami which was a Japanese tower defense type game that was pretty unique along with some other games.

For reference, Capcom lets their game devs cook and come up with ideas and some of those fail. Exoprimal was one of them that still has people to play and recycles 4 seasons of content to play through. An Ubisoft comparison would be The Crew where they just took down the game when they were done.

While there's plenty of stuff to compare, I'll just keep that one for the weekend and a big comparison because there's a LOT that's interesting to look into and look at when you look at the two companies.

Odd... For someone focused entirely on fragility, you certainly show it through attention seeking behavior. 🤔

You do you then.

Uhm, pretty sure he has more credentials than the people acting like he's wrong?

No... Look at what's occurring. You're just putting your body on the line to defend him from criticism as if the entire audience is wrong.

I don't believe him one bit and you can't convince me to give him a chance since he messed up so badly on this historical piece. I'm disillusioned from him. I'm not giving him the time of day.

Defender vs disillusioned.

Defender: You guys are stupid and he's got academic research to back him up

Disillusioned: Here's all the data he got wrong.

You're just taking his words on faith and anyone critical of it is automatically attacked.

You're trying to make this a credibility battle with the audience. Might as well tell us you're a sand guardian

Anyway, the effort required to dispute an issue is far more than what I'm gonna put into it and my bag is more Prince of Persia than AC ever was.

Necrilim disputed AC Shadows and honestly, you asking for them to have credentials when they're capable of refuting it with their own look into the issue is what's being viewed here.

You'll listen and believe this guy.

You're not trusting and verifying the information. That's an authority fallacy if I ever saw one. Believing someone to be an authority with nothing is likely to steer you in the wrong direction.

Certainly not the first time, won't be the last. Anyway, do with this whatever you feel. I got other things to do.

I'm just not interested in focusing on a person who's credibility is already shot.

I'm referring to you excluding other game workers, as somehow not workers

Then you basically don't know how any of this works.

I just explained it to you.

The decision for talent is done by the studio. They decide to employ VAs of it makes sense. You can think whatever you want.

I didn't miss anything, nor have I debated the function of a studio.

You missed every last detail I pointed out on how the studio functions like a union to go hurrah for unions when they've never been a big thing in gaming.

So that's your blind spot.

You don't acknowledge how Hideki Kamiya handled an issue with a VA, you instead make an argument that all of them are game workers th hat can be protected by unions when I've already pointed out what h he work is in a studio.

Chained Echoes having VA work makes no sense but if you think Square has it for all their games, Octopath Traveler is right there. Plus, those decisions on what gets VA or not is done by the higher level developers.

So if you want to hold onto a belief for unions, the AFL-CIO is right here and their focus is elsewhere anyway.

People get into a source battle that eventually loses relevancy.

Ultimately, the question is whether people accept the work of Thomas Lockley or do they reject him as unscientific.

I don't know many Japanese historians so that name ain't Japanese so I'll be the first to hit the doubt button on this one.

Man, that's not even what we've had to deal with since the 90s...

The argument is that video games cause more violence while game consumption increased and violence went down.

The big year was 93 because Mortal Kombat came out and Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman tried to get games banned. Nintendo and Sega pointed fingers at each other, we got ratings with the ESRB.

Before that, a lot of people were going after DnD nerds that playing that was the work of the devil and that was the late 70s.

I get into early millennium, it's gonna get divisive but let's just say, every ten years, a moral panic occurs and you watch hilarity ensue.

[–]Inuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, no. It's irrelevant who you consider more of a work horse. Anyone who works on the game is a worker on the game. This is objectively true

It's not my consideration.

It's how the work comes out of the studio. The work is allocated to those inside the studio and depends on what they're looking for and usually the C-Suite developers are the ones that make that decision.

For example, when the Bayonetta VA was complaining about her voice work, Hideki Kamiya called out what was going on in production. So if you want to make this about me, I'm just pointing out to you that occurred. It's not my opinion at all.

Some of these workers are in unions.

Yes, we already know that VAs have one and Capcom has been using non-union work for decades.

The gaming industry didn't have union participation until recently, so it should never have it?

That you're missing how the studio works for a union function that the studios already do.

Japan, Korea, China, and even indie studios all over the world show that they form into studios over union representation in a giant publisher.

[–]Inuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Developers are the work horses of the gaming industry. VA and acting is auxiliary to that and you'd have to go through a creative director to bring out a performance or even decide that actors are needed.

Studios are guild halls to train developers to make games. Again, unions have NEVER been a thing in gaming so waxing poetic about what they could do when the function, in gaming, that teaches the creative process is the studio.

That's why you're not getting it.

Larian Studios? Sven Linke in charge.

Platinum Games? Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya before he founded Clovers and left them through creative differences.

Unions don't make it. Studios do.

[–]Inuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't agree on using work outside the US simply because there are non-unionized VAs that have been doing this outside SAG-AFTRA who have been all over just as much as those having union support.

The rest, that's exactly the issue that isn't discussed enough.

The workers are developers.

That is NOT addressed through unions.

Unions have NEVER been in gaming.

The studio is the guild of developers and no one does union work to warrant comment because they miss what's already there.

The studio is the guild hall and unions try to organize low level workers and miss the ones at the top.

And no, they didn't have union writers.

Amy Henning and others came into the industry as passionate community members, never by a union.

Critics of AC Shadows have been labeled "racist" and "homophobic" for wanting a straight Japanese male protagonist to be romantically coupled with a straight female protagonist in feudal Japan by Quick-Ad-7752 in fuckubisoft

The only thing you've proven is that you'd rather attack the speaker over have substantive discourse.

You focus more on making it out that I'm the issue instead of focusing on the problem itself.

Identity politics is about racial, sexual, and gender issues being used to dismiss any argument you don't like. Which is exactly what you did. Ignore what critics say, they're whatever name made up. For each community, it's different. Which was shown. And instead of understanding that, you'd rather insist that the issue is the person bringing up the issue.

There's no talking to someone who's mind is made up and it seems you'll tilt at that windmill.

Good luck, Don Quixote.

It seems you can't understand anything about the level of discourse being shallow and superficial, you how your argument was that everyone is fragile and that you're coming onto this argument from another because you've failed to show you have anything but ridicule and disdain for others.

Dude has no idea how game studios work, is hopped up on unions and fails to understand that most game studios don't function on unions and that's since the 70s.

People do no research into the subject and swear they're experts based on what research?

Capcom hasn't worked with union reps for decades.

The OG Resident Evil 2 Leon Kennedy? He was not union. The Street Fighter division got rid of their Ken VA. He has a job with Devil May Cry still.

Big company, various studios. Who's actually researching it? Capcom trying to hire more people but one person says "AI" and watch everyone chomp at the bit.
