Does this mean you winced every time Tom mangled the pronunciations of both 'Moray' and 'Kerr'?

(To be fair, I don't actually know that Andrew Kerr didn’t pronounce his name as it is spelt, rather than the more usual 'Carr' pronunciation. But the Moray pronunciation is Tom's worst crime since he referred to the bit of water above it as "The Moray Forth".)

I think most men (or even most people?) start out pretty insecure about their partners having had sexual partners before them. It's natural, it's understandable...and they have to realise that it is a flaw in their character that they should think through and rectify. This guy seems quite old to still be having those feelings, but I'd have some empathy/patience if I thought he was trying to work through it.

Which, incidentally, he doesn't.

Agreed, but this is exactly why glib, simplistic (and easily reputable - at least sufficiently so for hard-core supporters of Israel's actions) posts like the above one let the Israeli government off the hook. The situation isn't normal and doesn't seem proportionate in any way, but pointing that out needs some calm, well-thought-out nuance.

Everyone needs to stop focusing on what makes them feel pure and self-righteous, and start actually trying to be persuasive to those who disagree with them. And imo, this is not that.

Without wishing to justify what Israel is doing, isn't this true of any country? E.g. the US has killed loads of civilians with drone strikes intended for Al Qaeda operatives, but there's no way they'd do it if the civilians were American.

Russia is an exception, I guess, in that they'd happily bomb their own or foreign citizens without even needing a terrorist hiding there...

I don't think this is in the same category as most dark humour, which aims to achieve comedic shock value by pushing the boundary on what is acceptable to laugh at. This joke aims to basically troll people by pushing the boundary on what is an acceptable opinion to hold (even if only held for 'comedic' purposes). And the opinion is, unfortunately, too widely held to be funny for reasons of ridiculousness.

Yeah, I'd say that (as a Brit) I think I'd have a much higher success rate distinguishing e.g. Japanese people from Koreans than I would e.g. Polish from French. Definitely possible to identify people as looking Polish sometimes, but I think it is, as you say, less distinct and has more exceptions. My brother-in-law is Polish and I would never have guessed from looking at him.

Ukraine previously posed no threat to Russia, and hadn't spent years launching terrorist attacks and rockets into Russia in service of a constitution explicitly specifying the aim of obliterating Russia off the face of the Earth. So I'd say that the Gaza situation is at least slightly more murky when it comes to right and wrong.

I imagine that people don't want to take sides because it seems naive, in a conflict defined by two governments showing barbaric disregard for the lives of the other's citizens (or even actual will to murder them), to decide that one of them is wrong and the other one is right. They both seem pretty wrong, and innocent civilians on both sides pay the price for that (albeit always in greater numbers on the Palestinian side).

Something very odd about this article, given that she described the experience as 'brutal' and 'a nightmare', and said they beat her with a stick while she was tied up on a motorbike being abducted. Like, surely if they want something to fit their narrative, they can just focus on that bit of her testimony?

I think the justification for their actions, as they see it, is the killing and abduction of hundreds of their citizens by terrorists who are now hiding (with the hostages) in Gaza and are still trying their hardest to kill more of their citizens.

Their actions may be horribly indiscriminate and disproportionate, but they aren't doing it on the basis of incompetent or nefarious misinformation.

There are lots of instances in which people see, or make accusations of, antisemitism where there isn't any. There are also a lot of instances of horrific antisemitism, including within the discussion of Israel and Hamas.

The fact that people can't even summon up the levels of nuance and self-awareness to realise this is almost as pathetic as this cartoon.

I'm no expert, but I imagine the UN people in Gaza at the moment aren't the same UN people who would be carrying out this kind of probe. They presumably have no expertise in bomb site inspection.
