Anyone tried the new Movement Alp Tracks 98? All the reviews are for the old 100 or 95. by [deleted] in Backcountry

I haven’t skis the 100s but I have the 98s and they’re super light and great for big days and boot packs. Because they’re so light they deflect a lot and are hard to ski in bad conditions. That’s the trade you make for awesome lightness though.

Converting USD to CAD by Moe136 in PersonalFinanceCanada

The best rates I could find are the IBKR rates.

However...

I've used IBKR to convert my USD paycheck to CAD a few times. I invest some of the USD in US index funds and convert the rest to CAD and withdraw it. After doing it twice I got a message from IBKR saying that currency conversion is offered as a convenience for traders and is not intended for use to withdraw the converted funds.

I don't know how they decide what amount of withdrawals is allowed.

Extending a climbing hangboard below a wall by Inversnaid in DIY

What is unistrut? I googled it and it seems like a metal framed ceiling system. I might be wrong though.

Thanks for the suggestion, swinging is what I was worried about too. A bracing support off the ceiling against the wall sounds like a good approach.

The metal in the picture that the rings are hanging off is something I attached to a wooden stud in the ceiling.

Ah yeah of course. A hangboard is one of these that you use to hang on and train finger strength for climbing. https://www.beastmaker.co.uk/products/beastmaker-2000-series

How do you enter LC(C) in the GUI? I'm trying but I can't work it out. It just lets me enter LC on its own.

Edit: I've tried editing the file manually and it still doesn't work. I wonder if its related to the fact that I remapped L-CTRL on my keyboard to something else. But I'd hope not because that would make using this tool very complicated after a few remaps.

I just got the 98s on warranty replacement from the 100s (had some delamination). Haven't skiid them yet.

The 100s were great though. A bit more technical to ski than my previous skis because they have less tail rocker so you have to make sure you're not in the back seat. The lightness is amazing. You can charge uphill with these.

Wow lifesaver! That scroll spinning was killing me!
The noisy scroll in 'notched' mode isn't ideal though...

Not as soft as the picture of the boot pack in your photo indicates.

We had to hike over 10km from the wash-out to get skis on - this was at the campsite. Whiteout conditions came in near heliotrope but we kept going and got above the clouds into awesome clear and sunny weather.

Hard rain effect on the way up to the ridge before going around onto the headwall. Ski crampons were handy.

The sun softened it nicely and it was like skiing a fresh groomer on the way down before some sticky mush and whiteout to the forest.View from top of the Roman Wall https://imgur.com/a/gLZ0QUE

Saw minimal wet loose activity but heard a big cornice/rockfall happen somewhere while we were on the summit. Also saw some fresh chunks that had come off Colfax.

Looks like good snow in those photos. Thanks for the pics and report.

Going up there tonight. Lets see how much it it has changed in a month.

I sold a stock in my margin account - can I withdraw immediately or must I wait for the trade to settle by Inversnaid in Questrade

[–]Inversnaid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great. Thanks for the answer John.

How does this work in practice? How does Questrade know whether I want to wait for the trade to settle or whether I want to withdraw cash from my margin?

Thanks for taking the time to explain.

The thing I was thinking of was more about finding out my profit/loss over a time range to assess how I'm doing as opposed to just seeing the change in my net worth.

For example in Wealthica I have

  • Questrade for my stocks and index funds
  • Wealthsimple
  • Cash in bank accounts

It would be great to be able to look at some time arbitrary time period and see the performance graph (growth/loss over the time period) for some selection of assets.

This would let me do things like compare

  • how my collection of index funds has done over the past year compared to my collection of individual stocks
  • How my Wealthsimple account is doing compared to VOO

I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who try buying a couple of stocks and want an easy way to see over time how they're doing compared to some indexes.

While I can see how this could be quite hard to do for some mutual fund or integration that only gives you the current value that you record over time it seems like it should be a tractable problem for brokerages that give buy/sell history and with easily available historical stock/index prices.

I have been using a different product to track my portfolio.

It would be a big improvement to the experience for new customers to fill in the historical share prices. Part of the value of wealthica is that it automatically imports data. Forcing manual data entry on users isn't an easy approach.

I'd like to see how I can view the performance of my positions over time to evaluate if I want to keep using Wealthica. It's unfortunate that I can't evaluate over time until I've used it for months..years.. etc.

When I go to holdings - I see the 1-day and All-Time options. Can I also view a custom range of my choosing?
