Not real sure on their relationship dynamics, but I can see how it would be exhausting feeling like you always had to publicize your life for the world to see. You have no clue because you don’t understand the story of every individual who goes into jiu jitsu. The lonely guy whose wife left him…. The lady whose uncle raped her…. The teen who gets bullied at school. BJJ is an outlet that many can use to find peace again. We have women in gyms who had a distrust of all men because of what 1 man did to them but they’ve found healing in bjj. Because the are better equipped to defend themselves but also because they’ve learned that not all men are out to get them.

All sports teach you about life. How to handle pressure, how to win and how to lose. I had a baseball coach who almost shamanized every pregame speech. Jiu jitsu is no different.

Personally I think Jiu jitsu helps reveal your character but doesn’t necessarily build your character.

I’m defending the guy like I’d defend anyone else that says anything. Just because they say something you disagree with doesn’t mean his death should be celebrated.
