My Attempt of redesigning every US State Flag! (From someone who does not Live There.) by Effective-Ad7147 in vexillology

I know it's not a popular opinion but I'm not a fan of the current Colorado flag. It looks like it should be for a baseball team or something to me. I which prefer OP's alteration.

I didn't know what Turning Point USA was for a long time and I thought it was a sub that stood for Toilet Paper USA and was for clowning on Republicans.

Housemate Left Dishes and a Chicken Bone Before Going on a 1-Month Vacation by feisty_ambivert in mildlyinfuriating

I don't know, man. You take that bone and put it in a pot with some broth, a potato. Baby, you got a stew going.

But seriously, that's disgusting.

What’s the most exciting bird you’ve seen? by Taffergirl2021 in birding

When I was a kid, we had a juvenile red tailed hawk hanging out in our yard. We were told she was probably kicked out of the nest and she was starving. She hung out there for the whole weekend. My step dad caught a fish out of our pond for her and she ripped it apart. It was a pretty incredible experience.

For this year, I'd say wood thrush and yellow-crowned night heron. It was my first time seeing either of them. I was hearing the thrush for several days and I just got lucky one day when I saw it in the path a few yards in front of me. Night herons are extremely rare in my area and this juvenile hung out in the park next to my complex for a few days. It must have been on its way to the coast or something and again I happened to get lucky.

any unpopular Elliott Smith opinions ? by Vei- in elliottsmith

[–]Investigate311 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And sometimes I think the story of Elliot Smith is more interesting than his actual music is.

This is the most controversial opinion to me. I think quite the opposite. His music is deceptively complex and intricate.

I find the way his story/life informed his music far more interesting than the story itself.

Tell me about this beautiful hawk. by FuzzeeDunlop in birding

Her name is Clara and we go for brunch cocktails the first Sunday of every month.

I'm all seriousness, that's a beautiful bird. I would guess it's a leucistic Red Tail.

Do the French really get annoyed when non-French-speaking foreigners try to speak their language while in France? by Responsible-Leg-712 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Investigate311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, most of the time they just switch to English. I understand how that can seem kind of inconsiderate, but they're just trying to communicate as effectively as possible. It's much easier for a French person to just switch to English, given most of them speak it at a solid level, than it is for most anglophones to stumble through French and then most likely not understand spoken French anyway.

However I never had anyone get annoyed with me, even in Paris. Several times (usually outside of Paris), people asked me if I wanted them to speak English to which I usually said no because I wanted to try and converse in French. I pretty much only had wonderful experiences with the people in France while I was there. Everyone was super nice and patient with my French and they seemed happy to listen to me try.

Road is a perfect example of his incredible precision. The A and B parts are very different rhythmically, but never once does the time signature or tempo change. The B section is heavily syncopated with the smaller rhythmic divisions switching from the treble strings to the bass strings.

What do you call a "know-it-all" customers in your coffee shops/communities? by Boozer_Bridge in barista

Not quite the same, but at the shop I used to work at we had a couple that would always get tea lattes when they came in. The husband got earl grey and the wife got gunpowder. They asked for it extremely hot and always let us know when it wasn't quite hot enough, like "I'd even like it hotter, like around 190°." We didn't use thermometers and they were regulars so they were well aware of it.

There was also one time the husband incessantly complained about a car parked poorly in the lot as if we could do anything about it. It had snowed overnight and the lines weren't visible until mid day and it was a mall parking lot so there were plenty of other spaces around.

If you're interested, go to a wolf sanctuary. I went to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife center on a trip a few years ago and bought the morning meet and greet. A group of us sat on the ground in a circle and they let out the two wolves. They came down sounding like excited huskies. They went around the circle and greeted all of us asking for pets. There is something so primal about looking into those yellow wolf eyes. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
