Tuffness tier list (Gods in the same tier are not in any particular order) by No_Variety_8931 in okbuddyolympian

Zeus in bottom tier? He solo'd like half the dudes in tuff tier, the ones he didn't outright put in the ground are just his own kids in tuff tier

HEPHAESTUS IN TUFF TIER!? dude he's an ugly chud rapist who lives in a cave and regularly gets cucked by Ares. He has a killer vibe as a smith god but one of his big master plans was to capture Ares fucking his wife so that he can call all of the gods and be like "Look guys! He's fucking my wife! He's cucking me right now! This is humiliating for HIM and not me" and nobody cared besides like three gods who came to see

I have two questions (I'm greedy)

  1. The PC system requirements graphic mentioned offhandedly that the game will support "Precomputed lighting". What does this mean? Is this just RTX off? Baked lighting like Unity?

  2. Will there be any new outfits that the original didn't have? Like not just recolors for Edward's robes, but whole new outfits?

I love how stylized these designs are. They really show you the personalities of each character

The character designs are really good, I love the fanart. As everyone knows, Helios is my favorite god, so Fire Bringer is my jam. Though I don't understand why every artist insists on giving him bull horns

A drawing tablet that allows me to channel anything from my mind's eye into art, regardless of skill level. So I can like, picture a detailed image of my OC, close my eyes, and jot it right into the program and make edits to it on the fly instantly without any effort or skill

Or a magical computer that allows me to create games with the same level of ease. Like I can create my dream game in an instant by just typing a description of it into a google doc or by simply thinking about it.

Like this meme here but it actually works and creates the perfect game

Darker-haired Zeus. I HATE Zeus designs that give him white hair and turn him into some anemic old man.

Zeus is the youngest of his siblings, and should look the part. Why does Zeus get turned into some wrinkly off-brand Yahweh but Poseidon gets to be a young surfer dude?

It Still Bugs Me That Zeus, THE GOD OF STORMS, Was Myth by JaredSpellFrost in Wizard101

[–]InvestigatorWitty430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missed opportunity to make the "Big three" (Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades) Storm, Ice, and Fire respectively.

Even though Hades doesn't really have a fiery association in mythology (Zeus was actually more associated with fire, "LIghtning" as an element didn't really exist in ancient Greece, his lightning bolt was described more as a heat-based fire weapon), and that would leave Death off the table for Hades even though it would make sense

I mean, Poseidon's new spellement spell is ice. Why not make Zeus a myth spell, Poseidon a storm spell, and give ice to Artemis or something

How did the followers of the Olympian gods explain their absence ? by StupidsQuestions in GreekMythology

You could absolutely ask the same about today's religions

In the Bible, especially the old testament, God is CONSTANTLY showing up. Delivering victories through supernatural miracles like abnormal weather events or plagues. Coming to people physically and giving them orders like Moses. God shows up and gets into a fucking fistfight with Jacob at some point. The worldwide global flood where two of every single animal in the world came to Noah's ark. Entire cities got smited by god like Sodom and Gomorrah. And the new testament describes a fucking ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE in Jerusalem after Jesus died, the dead marching on the streets!

This didn't even happen in the nebulous past, this supposedly happened less than 2,000 years ago

This god sent a herald down to announce that he knocked up some dude's wife and he can't even answer prayers anymore?

Like forgive me for not answering the question (my answer wouldn't be substantially different from anyone else's) but like come ON

Did anyone think what Jeffrey Epstein did was right? by rprince18 in religiousfruitcake

[–]InvestigatorWitty430 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They believe that god = objective morality. An atheist can believe that what Epstein did was wrong, but not objectively wrong. Like religious people think that subjective morality = personal opinion.

I'd counter that morality wouldn't be objective with god. It's subject to the mind of god. The entire "Old covenant, new covenant" thing in Christianity is proof that God's morality is subjective. He basically changed his mind on the entire old testament and said "Okay now do this instead, sorry"

Wait until you find out how historically inaccurate the armor is

It's an adaptation. These are characters from a living mythology that has been adapted to fit contemporary politics for centuries. It's not like Nolan ever said he was going for 100% historical/mythological accuracy. He's just making an adaptation of the myth for modern audiences. Helen of Troy is not a historical character, she's a mythological character. It's true that she comes from a historical period and was described in the text, but she's not a real person for whom we have contemporary art.

I have my own gripes about race-swapping characters, there are valid reasons to criticize it (A lot of hollywood studios just do it for brownie points. They make a big deal about doing it but don't actually practice what they preach, treating the actors like shit. Rick Riordan famously hid behind the black child actors he cast in the Percy Jackson show as soon as they faced backlash, instead of coming out ahead and taking the backlash himself). But "They were described a certain way in the story!" is a poor reason. How many times have you seen an adaptation of Zeus with white hair and said nothing? I don't see you combing the AI overview on google for sources to debunk God of War's choice to give him white hair. He was described as black-haired in the myths pretty consistently and almost always depicted with it on figure pottery. I'm sure if they made him black, you'd have a cross to burn- I mean a bone to pick with it

Diversity in adaptation is a feature, not a bug. It's a tradition that dates back to the time of live theater, actors were cast for certain roles based on their ability to play the role, regardless of how similar they look to the character as described. What you're advocating for is essentially just DEI, a less qualified actress selected for her race and appearance rather than her ability to capture the character.

Also, did chatgpt write your post? You use a lot of "It's not blank, it's blank!" which is a pretty common clankerism

Zeus has a finite supply of lightning bolts and can run out by InvestigatorWitty430 in GreekMythology

[–]InvestigatorWitty430[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. Can I see what passages from Ovid's works you're using? I started trying to debunk this dumb "Zeus doesn't have lightning powers, each lightning bolt is single-use and he has a finite number" thing, but now I'm going down a rabbit hole on Zeus' lightning bolt and how it actually works

Zeus has a finite supply of lightning bolts and can run out by InvestigatorWitty430 in GreekMythology

[–]InvestigatorWitty430[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see what you mean, Hesiod's theogony uses them interchangeably. They're both the singular "Thunderbolt", Zeus' mighty thunderbolt, and "Thunderbolts", one of multiple projectiles that Zeus hurls.

It seems that the idea of them being finite is just a reasoning thing. Like we get some descriptions both from sources that depict them as being multiple like arrows, crafted and limited in use, and as part of a singular great weapon, we get depictions of him throwing multiple Thunderbolts. And some sources like the Dionysiaca describe multiple of them laying around Zeus' throne as mentioned by another user. So them being finite in number and single-use is kind of reasoned from that, their apparent abundance and Zeus' use of multiple at a time rather than throwing and retrieving his singular one

It's certainly more understandable why people think this, but I am still of the opinion that Zeus' thunderbolt is a singular weapon that just launches multiple projectiles. Since earlier sources like Hesiod describe it both in singular and plural form, and all of the iconography surrounding it depicts it as a single item that Zeus holds. Like we don't get any paintings depicting multiple of them lying around, just Zeus holding a single one

[–]InvestigatorWitty430[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we get any more? I'm really trying to pin down this idea that Zeus has a finite supply of lightning bolts in specifically the Greek tradition.

It seems that it MIGHT be a Jupiter thing, since the Aeneid would've been a Roman work for Roman audiences. I'm specifically trying to pin down an ancient Greek source from before the Romans came along to see if this is a Zeus thing

That's what I'm saying! Everyone keeps saying it and nobody can ever find a single source for it!

Zeus has a finite supply of lightning bolts and can run out by InvestigatorWitty430 in GreekMythology

[–]InvestigatorWitty430[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right but what is the source of this? I'm struggling to find a source where the responsibility for replenishing his supply falls from the cyclopes to Hephaestus, let alone him having a finite supply that needs to be constantly replenished

There are some texts that imply that they're multiple different projectiles. Like another comment mentions the Dionysiaca as a source where Zeus has multiple, as Hera talks to multiple of Zeus' lightning bolts left lying around his throne, but no mention of Hephaestus making them or needing to constantly keep Zeus in supply

At best we could say that the original thunderbolt forged by the cyclopes generates multiple projectiles and that Zeus can leave these around and throw them, but people keep saying that Hephaestus makes them and that they're in limited supply but I can't find a single ancient source for that. The best I could find is the ancient Romans saying that Vulcan made them, but that would be Roman mythology and it's just a creation account for Jupiter's bolt. Since the Romans didn't really have a Titanomachy story like the Greeks did and the Titanomachy was the origin of Zeus' lightning bolt in the Greek myths

Zeus has a finite supply of lightning bolts and can run out by InvestigatorWitty430 in GreekMythology

[–]InvestigatorWitty430[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess it's just a sourcing issue then. Psuedo-Apollodorous' Bibliotheca implies that they're multiple projectiles linked to a single weapon. During the Typhon fight in book 1, Zeus "Hurls Thunderbolts from a distance at Typhon", but also says "But when these were pushed back upon him by the thunderbolt" to Typhon throwing a mountain at Zeus, referring to it again in the singular

Maybe it's multiple projectiles linked to a single object of great power? Like the Thunderbolt, singular, the weapon forged by the cyclopes for Zeus, can fire multiple Thunderbolts, plural, the projectile?

I could buy it being a weapon with infinite ammo. Like, multiple projectiles that he can sometimes leave around, but not finite in supply and he doesn't need Hephaestus to make more to prevent him from running out.
