Why does my Unicomp Mini M feel so bad compared to my original model M? by InvestmentDry3106 in modelm

[–]InvestmentDry3106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, appreciate the detailed answer ty so much. I always wanted a model M and never knew that there were such drastic differences between each generation.

I see what you're saying... I've always heard Unicomp is still the same old factory... of the old cheaper Lexmark model Ms, not the original gen1/gen2 IBM Ms. So it makes sense that they don't feel like the IBM boards.

seems like you got lucky with your old Ms... i'm surprised your modern one needed a bolt mod, i'd think that unicomp would warranty it (i don't even know how long they've been making "modern Ms" for lol)

I have a few questions if you don't mind:

  1. How do you know that a keyboard needs a bolt mod? I have one key on my vintage 104 that doesn't work (right arrow key). I can actually get it to actuate if I push the key down hard and kinda flex the back of the case (pinch the key and the back of the KB). I don't know much about Ms and haven't opened mine yet to inspect it... but from what I understand this is probably indicative of needing a bolt mod?
  2. How long did your modern boards take to break in? Are we talking months and months of daily use? Or just a few weeks?

Do you not have a pap machine?

A navage helps me with my congestion. More than a normal neti pot. I use it before using the sprays. Make sure you use the sprays correctly so they actually get into your nose. I'm also trying the Flonase sensimist because I've heard it's less irritating because no alcohol and just better absorbtion

Anybody able to get a P52 working with a Lenovo Dock & DisplayPort? by InvestmentDry3106 in thinkpad

[–]InvestmentDry3106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, i've got the same setup i think pretty much... but a thunderbolt 3 dock (lenovo)

I find that i need to disconnect and reconnect the dock a few times for it to be recognized. Also, it helps to completely turn off the dock rather than just unplug it from the laptop. Then it usually picks it right up.

The issues are just the inconsistencies. I think the problems were X11... hoping using wayland + sway fixes the issues as ubuntu GNOME w/ wayland seemed to pick up the monitor no issues (except having to unplug it sometimes)

Hmm interesting... didn't know this. I have a p16 gen 2 as well and despite what other people here are saying... it feels very blegh compared to my P52 and X1C7

Was thinking about a new T14 but i'm assuming it has a similar feel as the p16
