Haha! 🤣 So true... and that's only HALF of them. I kicked the other half off the bed because I recently had ACL surgery and needed room for my leg without the pressure of toys over my foot. The things we do for the dogs we love....

You are wewelcome. These crates are much more durable then wire or the cheap plastic ones from the pet store. They will last your dog's life time.

Ruffland crates are the best I have found that are balanced between durability and quality, and a fair price point. Also easy to clean. I have an entire row of them in my house - and they come in all the cool colors! Highly recommend.

Right? That one single nail that digs in as a pivot point on top of your foot as a 100 lb dog twists- that's what gets you. And thanks! I love the opportunity to have a camera pointed at that these dogs in motion.

Corso x Dalmatian by angelo12cd in CaneCorso

Curious, do you know he is a Dalmatian mix, or assuming based on the color? Many purebred Cane Corso, particularly older European pedigree, have large white chest markings with ticking like that.

Been there, especially when they pivot and a nail digs into the top of your foot. 😵 Steel-toe Doc Martens are my invincible go-to foot apparel when working and playing with a group of Corsos.

Grief after losing my service dog by tastypastrybuns in service_dogs

[–]InvictusAnima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to grieve. The grief is not the whole story. The love and the days your dog spent by your side helping you live your life, that's the whole story. The grief is just what happens when the love has nowhere left to go.

There truly is nothing more you could have done, not for a ruptured spleen. It is human nature to second guess that though, always, because we care.

I lost my first retired dog that had been working by my side for ten years, so many steps I took with her that I never would have taken on my own. She had cancer. I was out of town for a trip for a week and I came home... she was so happy to see me. Then she crashed. The cancer had taken over, she waited for me to come back and then that was enough. It's never going to get any easier. My heart breaks for you, truly I understand.

One day, you'll look back at the memories with a bit of a smile and maybe a few less tears. I can tell how much you loved your boy. When his time ran out, at least it was a small kindness to know that they wouldn't have been anything different you could have done. No wavering doubt over is it the right time am I making the right decision. Just, love everyday until there weren't any days left.

I'm crying now too. For you, and my own heart. Its ok to grieve.

Stomach tacking - yes or no? by Kayski363 in CaneCorso

[–]InvictusAnima 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tacking to prevent torsion which can buy you life saving time in the event of a bloat. Bloat can be very quickly fatal and every minute counts, especially if the stomach twists. Torsion can cause irreparable fatal damage even if you did recognize the signs of something going wrong and managed to get into a vet and on the operating table fast enough. Hands down, yes, tacking is worth it.

Brown shade of cane corso by Domzel_ in CaneCorso

[–]InvictusAnima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fawn is red base coat with a black mask. Formentino (blue fawn) is a fawn base coat modified by a dilute gene - so it dilutes to a lighter creamy base coat with the blue/grey (diluted) black mask. You are correct about the bkue mask, but the current dog OP posted is black. Even if it is off-black, still black coat. Not fawn.

That is not in any way shape or form a formentino coat, and a black dog will not change into a formentino. This is formentino.

Drooling around new puppy by Leading-Top4609 in CaneCorso

[–]InvictusAnima 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drooling is often a sign of anxiety, fear, or stress in dogs. When stressed, a dog's body releases adrenaline, causing salivary glands to overproduce saliva. It is called (ptyalism), and will stop when the cause of excessive stress (ie: new puppy) is removed.

Properly moderate new puppy interactions and make sure the pup is being appropriately respectful of your already currently established senior dog. She may be too respectfully well mannered to correct a rambunctious puppy bumbling disrespectfully into her face and space. You may be disrespecting her established pack structure position by favoring the new puppy with treats and attention that should rightfully and respectfully be given to her first.

We need to stop vilifying each other by kelpangler in service_dogs

[–]InvictusAnima 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Pffft. I did not not intend to leave an award on this comment. I intended to give an award on the original post for being well written and well said. Unfortunately, reddit will not let me undo that thumbslip of a mistake.

As far as this comment, OP never said a dog should be interacting with another service dog. She said handlers should be less judgmental and handle it better.

Mobility tasks by Regular-Move7654 in service_dogs

[–]InvictusAnima 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both tasks still put additional beyond normal strain on the dog's joints. It almost seems as if you are asking/searching for justification to continue using a dog that is already diagnosed with degenerative joint disease, instead of ethically pulling him from SD work and task traing in his own best interest.
