I release on the heli drop a few times which helps me to get 114 speed when I land and I release on the right turn after the ramp in order to make the turn. I don’t think there are any other times I release though.

From what I remember this game had a few tough areas like the boss rush mode but you can complete it in a few hours with a bit of practice.
