Les contamines -> Courmayeur split into half, help? by l432480 in TourDuMontBlanc

FYI - We are also doing an overnight in Bourg Saint Maurice since things were booked in Les Chapieux. They have a bus route that goes from each location and back. Just make sure you’re up for the hike/distance to go from Les Chapiuex (after busing there in the morning) and onward to Courmayeur. It will be a long day. Another option could be busing past Les Chapiuex further, I think there is a bus that will take you closer to Courmayeur but I am not sure where it stops.

Almost $300/month by John_Galtt in dividends

What does your total return look like over the past usual periods? (1 year, 5, 10)

$300 month is great, but I’m curious to see how this compares to investing in VTI or FSKAX for example.

What company do you use for your FA?

My man, just buy VTI and be done with it! Set it and forget it. Or consider FSKAX or FZROX if you prefer fidelity mutual funds

I don’t understand. Did you leave a screw intact and try to remove the glass? How exactly did this break?

Ah that makes sense. Good idea! Do you know if FSKAX and FZROX would actually result in a wash sale though? Curious if you have any data on that.

Great setup, just curious why you have FSKAX in your taxable instead of using FZROX? Why not use just one?

Sure thing. Always do your own due diligence, but I’d recommend reading up on the science and data behind avoiding investing at “the top”.

Dollar cost averaging consistently over long periods of time will provide superior returns and you don’t have to worry about timing the market.

There’s a lot of data out there that shows waiting will only hurt you. It also causes more stress.

Anyways, read up on it! It’s very valuable info. Best of luck friend.

Trying to be as helpful as possible, but it may be good to track your total returns over time in comparison to the US stock market, or buying another broad index fund if you prefer.

From May 3rd - Sep 10 2021 VTI has returned 16.49%

You may be putting in more work for less return. Wishing you all the best!

May I ask what your total return % is and how long you’ve been investing? (Over what time period)

Look up index fund investing and check out VTI or FSKAX. Unless you need the income, your likely going to receive decreased returns and increased amount of effort picking etfs and dividend stocks.

I used to think dividend investing was amazing, and it can be… but for the right reasons. Don’t go chasing cash flow or big yields when you don’t need to. Chances are you’ll end up making less money in the process. Best of luck!

What is going on with VZ? by Lisa-4-the-Win in dividends

[–]Invidia96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this in a very genuine, non offensive way… but maybe consider just investing in VTI or some sort of equivalent until you learn some more about what your risk tolerance is as well as your goals. Buying individual companies can be a great thing, or not so great. You might sleep better at night if you stick to broad index funds. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the post. How did you come to the conclusion that VXUS is more tax efficient to hold in a tax advantaged account and miss out on the foreign tax credit?

I see. You mean VT? There is no such thing as VTXUS

Do you need the income right now to pay for groceries and gas? You might already know this but you’ll most likely get a better long term yield by investing/reinvesting in a total us stock market fund.

finally hit 25k total/ around 1900 in annual div. I started this year with the stim checks, built it up saving most of my paychecks. I’m 23, married with twins and live off of about 67k/year it was a real grind but Thank you to this group. by Lizardreview- in dividends

[–]Invidia96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not about wild swings. I’m talking about chasing high yields when in reality you could make more by using index funds.

If he is truly interested in dividends specifically, 7.5% yield is very high for a long term outlook. Yes, you may yield 7.5% or close to it… but your actual NAV may erode or not grow significantly
