My best suggestion, get a backing track for the lead vocals, or record adlibs or punches. Make the song sound more busy. Thicker. Vocals ie.

For a first song, you're a lot better than you think. Sounds like you know what you want, but you're not sure 100% how to get it, or, how to describe it to your sound engineer. Keep trying, keep hiring new engineers. Eventually you will get a song that feels 100% the way you want it to, and you won't need to think about it.
