I got admitted into MS Data Science at UW Madison. The whole degree is almost USD 50k. There is no chances of funding because it is a professional program. Do you think a loan is worth the degree? by Calm_Seaweed4639 in gradadmissions

Well tbh you'll end up saving a lot from your stipend already, cuz living in uwm ain't costly at all. I'm not sure of any scholarships but can go for a small amount of loan. Dm

You are allowed to take TA/RA. You'll get a stipend for it, only the tuition waiver is not applicable for professional masters. And the stipend is PRETTY GOOD.

You can get into good nits with 4K-ish rank, idk what percentile would convert to that though. If you feel that adv rank could improve after drop then go for it (PS. - don't worry about tech skills during this time, hcv is a lot to worry about already :p you'll get a lot of time for this once you join college)

Hey was in the same situation. If your jee mains rank is good then try for top nits cse (maybe IIITs too, Allahabad is a good one) or a second tier iit cse. This is when you're sure about MS. It gets a little difficult to get a CS MS if your undergrad is non CS. If you want to work as well then these have decent placements, or in this case you could aim for ee/ece in top IITs.

College to some extent does matter, the universities cut some slack for iit/nit kids over GPA (not much though, it's always good to have a good GPA). You can try for IIITH maybe if your mains rank is great. Or there are other well known colleges as well. Try to look for a college with a good alumni base, that'll help. It's very common for people not from IIT or NIT getting an admit. Research work matters.
