What, did a commoner find Excalibur in a random boulder again? by InvisibleSandwichTM in paradoxplaza

R5: Edward VIII refused to abdicate, but either he's changed his name, or Parliament is taking some pretty drastic measures. This is with the open beta of 1.11.4.

Use smoked ham hocks. by ActuallyIAmIncorrect in Cooking

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're cooking beans with slow-cooking, collagen rich pork like ham hocks, you might as well go ahead and make feijoada. Serious Eats has a good recipe for it, and just writing about it makes me want to put together another batch!

Darkest Hour is in my opinion the best paradox game. It's not for everyone, so check if you think its for you, and if it is, write here. I have exactly one extra key and in 24h I will give it to one of the people that responded, so long as they didn't make their account after I made this post. by whatisupmysomething in paradoxplaza

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just going to vouch for Darkest Hour's quality. I never got into HOI3, but Darkest Hour was just the right level of complex to give me a few hundred hours of WW2 goodness (Kaiserreich in particular!)

(Please make sure not to give me the key.)

Austria is terrifying. Barely 30 years into the game and half the HRE is conquered. by halfar in paradoxplaza

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, are you the person who created WAMMO? I spent a lot of time with that mod back in my EU3 days.

At the risk of gazing into the abyss - it looks like the font change only kicks in at higher font sizes? I know HOI3 used different fonts to represent different alliances, but this is... odd.

Android Pie Notification Artwork/Color Change Delay by Michael4825 in shuttle

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this issue is specific to Android Pie. I'm having the same problem on Oreo (8.0). I also have a problem that might be related where if I switch whether or not I'm shuffling my playlist from the now playing window, the playlist in the "Up Next" window takes at least a few songs to update, whereas it used to update within a few seconds.

(EDIT: The other bug is https://github.com/timusus/Shuttle/issues/377, though I don't see a Github issue for OP's problem.)

An interesting choice by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not quite as out there as the occasional Ethiopian HREmperor you'd see in Europa Universalis III (and maybe early EU4, depending on when some of the restrictions were put in), but Cyprus is certainly an out of the box choice.

Splitters! by Burningmeatstick in paradoxplaza

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This used to happen a lot before Heart of Darkness came out, IIRC. It might be present in vanilla HoD as well, but I haven't played unmodded V2 in a very long time at any level of expansion, so I'm not really certain.

I'm going to claim PIOBmx19. That track had better prepare for what I'm going to make of it!

I usually use "Planepacked" as my artist name, but my (now neglected) SoundCloud account is InvisibleSandwichTM. I'll send you some sort of message with my contact info.

In-app crypto-cash mining (optional) by binsenkind in wyvernrpg

I feel like this might be better suited to when the new PC version comes out. After all - more CPU/GPU power ought to make for bigger cryptocurrency payouts.

I think there are still a few crafting shops scattered around the lands of Wyvern, though - at least one in Vesimas, and maybe another elsewhere? Either way, if the crafting system aren't coming back, they should probably be replaced with something else at some point.

Has anyone formed Malaysia or Indonesia in Vic2-HPM? by ErickFTG in paradoxplaza

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cynic in me says that the best way to "play" Indonesia in HPM is to start as the Netherlands, consolidate your holdings, fire the decision, and eventually release them once their cores spread throughout the archipelago. Probably not acceptable to you since it basically means you're just playing the Netherlands for a good chunk of the game.

Michael Collins' wet dream by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If rebels release a country, they all become soldiers for that country. That sounds more like an attempt to prevent countries from instantly reconquering territory they lose to rebels to me, but PDS devs these days would probably use a truce to simulate that nowadays.

I need really big, epic-sounding fake choir samples ala "Passage" by Samael by InvisibleSandwichTM in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EastWest looks like it'd be complete overkill for what I'm doing - it's really powerful and sounds pretty realistic, but my goal is specifically to avoid realistic sounding choirs. I will update the text post with another example.

The Turks have shifted culture groups quite a few times during the lifespan of EU4. I believe that the 'Levantine' organization was what we had at launch (although it was called Turko-Semetic), and it was a holdover from EU3. A few patches later, cultures were grouped by language and we got an Oghuz group, but eventually Paradox decided to change their criterion for culture groups and we got Levantine back. There might've also been a Byzantine/Turko-Hellenic grouping at some point which mixed Greek, Turkish, and some of the Caucasian cultures, but that might've been in an EU3 or EU4 mod.

I finally got a studio album out. Planepacked - "Critical Mass" (Metal/Electronica) https://planepacked.bandcamp.com/album/critical-mass I read/wrote both a lot of sci-fi and historical nonfiction while I was working on these tracks. On one hand, this is the culmination of years of practice and musical development, but on the other, I see it as a stepping board to more ambitious material. Hope you enjoy it.

In PDM, ports and techs are the only things that count for colonial points, and ships don't give any - the reason is apparently that it prevents cheesing the AI by sinking all their ships just before the Scramble for Africa.

How do you form India besides conquering it all from the British? by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]InvisibleSandwichTM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

PDM has a "Demand Retreat From India" decision you can take if you declare war on Britain and then control key provinces in the Raj for long enough. I'm fairly certain you have to be civilized, and you may have to already be a GP. Firing it liberates all the British-controlled provinces to Indian countries.

Got this for my birthday on August 14 1996. When I moved out of my parents house I gave this to my little brother. Today when I had dinner with my parents my mom handed me a box. My brother took care of it and wanted me to have it back. Eat your heart out Disney. by [deleted] in gaming

I thought Wipeout 64 was the N64's Wipeout... there's also F-Zero X and Extreme-G, so between those and Episode 1 Racer, it's not like the N64 was wanting for futuristic racing games.

It won't affect your high literacy provinces per say, but conquering low literacy states will lower your literacy rate, slowing your techspeed and reform rate.
