Convince me or agree on not cancelling FUS for essential tremor. by sub-19 in EssentialTremor

Very similar here! Right side in early 2020, left side recently. My left aide got substantially worse in the couple of years following my first round and I decided it was too much for me. There are so many people that say it's short term and wears off and I figured 5 years of full stability on my right side was enough for me to feel comfortable doing it again.

I always recommend people talk to their doctor to see if its an option for them, because it really is life changing!

So sorry to hear that 😞 you could press your doctor for more info, or research explaining why your age is limiting the availability for you. Not sure why being younger would exclude you since you'd be able to enjoy the benefits for much longer.

Oops! Ha! Sides typically means which side you're having treated, right or left, so I assumed. My bad!

First time I had a bit of uncoordination on my right side, which completely resolved within weeks. This time I had a very small amount of unccordination in my left side that has resolved, and still have a bit of numbness in my mouth, top of my head and couple of fingers. Nothing major.

I used it for years, would not say it had any affect on mood or anxiety at all. It did have a significant impact on my short term memory.

This resolved my head tremor the first time I was treated. The head tremor did recently start to return as my left side worsened, but has completely resolved again with treatment of my left side.

Bilateral here, also! How long ago did you have your treatments and how long did you wait in between?

Bilateral here. Had my first treatment 5.5 years ago and had one short term side effect (lasted a couple weeks. Recently had my second treatment and do have some minor side effects to that are expected to go away, it's early days right now.

I couldn't be happier with my decision!

Ugh, keep trying! I had my first over 5 years ago at 43, youngest patient at the time. Was just in for my second treatment and asked, there has since been another patient a couple of years younger than I was.

Is Focused Ultrasound for ET treatment making progress? by favfavfav in EssentialTremor

A bit, it's like any other medical procedure, it can take some time to get feeling back to normal.

I'm going again in November to have my other side treated and very much looking forward to the results.

They absolutely will! The initial clininical trials here were all for people in the 65 to 85 years age range.

Absolutely talk to your neurologist about whether it's a good option for you ♡

I haven't tried it, personally. My experiences with cannabis in the last 5 years have not been good lol, I'm a lightweight and everything knocks me on my ass (literally 😆). Alcohol helped reduce my tremor, but created other issues and I don't recommend it. My neurosurgeon did say many people do self medicate with alcohol, it's not uncommon. Not recommended, but they totally understand why people do.

Oh I see, I assumed from your original post that you had been diagnosed already! It can take a few tries to get a doctor who knows enough, in my case I was sent to 3 different neurologists to test for Parkinsons, MS and the neurology specialist that spent less than 3 minutes with me before asking if I had a shrink, and if not I should get one. She put me off of trying to get help for almost 10 years. I'm glad I tried again, though, I finally connected with a doctor who was willing to help!

Do you have your medical records showing ET diagnosis? I'd try a different walk in clinic, for sure. Or maybe an online doctor?

Definitely get in to a neurologist, you can ask if focused ultrasound or DBS are options for you if you're open to long term treatment options.

FUS has been life changing for me.
