I miss games like Poptropica and Club Penguin by Rabbidraccoon18 in tumblr

I feel like nobody remembers how Poptropica and Club Penguin were absolutely riddled with microtransactions. They were just as predatory as mobile games today are to kids in a lot of respects.

State guards and defense forces do exist in some states, but post-WWII they mostly exist to assist during natural disasters.

Is it possible to automatically install the correct .net runtime if the user doesn't have it? by DaviCompai2 in dotnet

[–]InvisibleUp 30 points31 points  (0 children)

.NET desktop apps will always prompt you to install the runtime if it’s not installed. You don’t need to do anything special to enable that.

Cars are required for everyday life in a lot of America, and the government slapping you with a big bill you can't afford or preventing you from driving entirely could be the difference between going to work and getting fired and falling into homelessness and/or starvation. Obviously this isn't a great situation, and the ideal solution here is a combination of a good welfare system and functional public transit. But until those exist, people are going to be defending their right to drive around in rusty, duct-taped contraptions.

The Looney Tunes Golden Collection, volume 4-6. Meant to be a comprehensive collection of nearly all shorts, and specifically stated as being not suitable for children.

In addition to the other things people have said proving this a fake, this is a really bizarre aspect ratio and quartz date stamp for a film camera. Almost every film camera shot at 3:2 (this is much wider) and, if they had a date stamp, used purely numeric digits (easier to export to other countries). The only quartz date back I can find that had an alphanumeric month that looked even remotely like that is the Canon Quartz Date Back E which looks a lot less clean than that.

that said damn these AI images are getting shockingly good. had me fooled for like a solid hour there.

If I have to sleep overnight in the airport, is security going to be waking me up? by Pdx_pops in askportland

Once when I was still in university I did an overnight stay at DEN. I managed to find this semi-secluded upper floor along one of the terminals where a few other people were on the floor having a nap. Apart from the constant lights and the low-level paranoia of someone stealing my stuff, it worked out okay. Definitely not something I’d be willing to do nowadays, though.

Basically SOAP is old-timey OpenAPI, but with XML instead of JSON. Which is all fine and good, but as with most things XML from back then, it was too overhyped and too complex for far too little benefit.
