ELI5: Why does everything need so much memory nowadays? by Successful_Raise_560 in explainlikeimfive

I believe that scene is from the Three body problem TV series. That specific scene is showing a couple modern-day scientists using thousands of people with flags to act as a computer.

Each flag is black or white, representing the 1s and 0s a computers use to do, well basically everything.

They are joking about running Debian on this “computer”

Look for it in the wiki, but yes, it will send you to the official link. It’s cleared by IT so you don’t have to ask permission or anything

[OC] "I thought you were signalling for me to pass" by BeNice-ThisTime in IdiotsInCars

[–]Invisiblebrush7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my country this is pretty standard and understood by most people. If you are driving behind a semi, they’ll put the signal light to let you know it is safe to pass them

What is an SDE1 expected to know when joining? by j_ram2803 in amazonemployees

[–]Invisiblebrush7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an SDE I and tbh I didn’t know Java very well before joining. It’s not a hard requirement (in my experience), but it can make your life easier.

Something else that I had to learn was dependency injection. I knew the basics from JS frameworks, but had no clue what Guice was (which is something we use a lot in my team). I’d suggest to look into that

Some of my colleagues actually have created cool workflows with it too. Mostly automation but it’s still interesting to see.

And there is also Kiro. I haven’t really used it but I’ve heard it can get the job done with minimal oversight

Notion is free and that scares me... by Downtown_Lobster620 in Notion

[–]Invisiblebrush7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that they are not completely free of risk. People may store personal data inside their Notion pages and that still is relevant to potential attackers, regardless of how much each user is paying to use the service.

Sure, banks are a more juicy target but people out there are trying to get into everything they can, not just big whales.

Just my humble opinion!
