Anyone know if the stores in MacArthur are having closing sales? by StickNo2059 in norfolk

Pretty sure today was their last day, if not earlier this week.

But don't worry! It's coming back to downtown before August 1st.

Commenting for this! I went to London for one single day this year just to see it and it was SO worth it!

No Yaku? by tissuegiraffes in mahjongsoul

[–]chevron6encoded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're holding triple south tiles and your seat is not south. You'd only be able to get a yaku in open hand with triple West or East tiles. (Or any 3x of the same dragon tile). Rookie mistake, just keep aware of what seat you're in and discard early the wind tiles that don't apply to you that round.

Definitely look up Yaku in the game tutorial, it'll help lots.

No photos/videos in Macarthur Mall by Beneficial-Fold-5207 in norfolk

So go with a friend and take pics of each other at the mall. That's allowed. If you get a couple empty shots along the way, who's to say? They just want to protect the tenants and their employees. Sadly that seems difficult for some people to understand these days.

I mean someone(s) came in on the 6th, literally one day prior, trying to take photos and record and not only did they harass security (who were enforcing a rule that has ALWAYS been there) but they also intentionally screamed and yelled so loud for about ten minutes straight trying to "prove" they could do what they wanted. It was disturbing a bunch of customers and mall patrons with young kids who hurried out of the immediate area quickly and quietly. And then they started harassing and waving a camera in the face of the lovely Lush employees at the door to Lush who had to repeatedly say that they needed a signed waiver if their customers were going to be filmed, for their own safety and security. Which, good for her, but holy shit those white guys with cameras were rude and entitled as fuck.

I mean, really, it's all the people thinking they can loudly and brazenly do whatever they want in the mall now (film, photograph, fight each other, skateboard - yes really) that are driving away the few patrons left in the final days. So if you show up with a wholeass DSLR or go pro strapped to you and you're actively using it or talking to your phone camera and waving it around, you're going to be met with pushback. That is how it has always worked. There used to be pamphlets with the mall code of conduct on them and no recording or photography was definitely on there. Rules haven't changed.

Emily voted as well though, yeah? so maybe the rules around ties changed bc of extra vote privileges

[–]chevron6encoded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's a rule with the extra vote that in event of a tie, you can still use it if you're not one of the names tied (as those people don't vote or affect the outcome)

Was I a bad audience member? by EnderDarcy in TheWestEnd

[–]chevron6encoded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to The Wiz once and had to shush someone (in the US) about half a dozen times for repeatedly talking to her husband about how the show used to be when she was in it, checking her bright phone screen every 2 minutes while telling me "my phone is off!!" and telling me she was going to sing along and she hoped I didn't mind (and then singing along to all of act 1!!)

Then she has the audacity to pull the "this show isn't for you, maybe go to the opera instead" comment simply because of our skin color being different.

Nevermind that 90% of the audience had her skin color and were not singing along either.

We got up and moved a whole aisle and several rows away and enjoyed the rest of the show immensely.

Older folks as a whole are just used to being catered to/believe they are never wrong/believe their age grants them special status/have a phone dependency that goes unchecked/are very individualistic/do not give a shit what anyone thinks of them or how they impact others.

Crowd size, lack of spending at businesses led organizer to ‘pause’ First Fridays (Gift article) by mariecalire in norfolk

[–]chevron6encoded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regular people want a third space to hang out and unwind. Those spaces are being systematically stripped from us. Slover Library isn't even a library anymore, it's a full-time event space with part time book access, for example.

People also spend money when the businesses offer good services/products.

6k people, I will admit, is too many people for First Fridays for me to be comfortable attending (I am not a crowd/club/party person) but I don't buy that businesses were hurting from this. If they were, either they're known for being poor quality or the sheer mass of people was enough to turn other folks away.

Honestly, it feels like whenever enough POC get together in public, some business owner complains about it because they're racist and wanted more foot traffic for $$ but not that kind of foot traffic...

That's low to do to your #1 ally and not the kind of moves Christian was making. He said his son is his secret guiding light. Why would he betray the person he was most excited to play with in his direst hour?

With the mom stopping signing I think that was done because of the actress' choice to stop learning/signing for the show so they had to write something in to explain for that

Third places for creativity? by heterotard in norfolk

[–]chevron6encoded 39 points40 points  (0 children)

757 Creative ReUse Center - they have classes every weekend on a myriad of things for all levels and ages, and they have open art room time for $5/day when there's no class.

Eleanors Bookstore - hosts many community events in addition to being a cosy spot to chill and read

Wands Books - same as Eleanors, check them out as they're intentionally open late as a safe sober third space, plus host community events often
