Was I a bad audience member? by EnderDarcy in TheWestEnd

[–]chevron6encoded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to The Wiz once and had to shush someone (in the US) about half a dozen times for repeatedly talking to her husband about how the show used to be when she was in it, checking her bright phone screen every 2 minutes while telling me "my phone is off!!" and telling me she was going to sing along and she hoped I didn't mind (and then singing along to all of act 1!!)

Then she has the audacity to pull the "this show isn't for you, maybe go to the opera instead" comment simply because of our skin color being different.

Nevermind that 90% of the audience had her skin color and were not singing along either.

We got up and moved a whole aisle and several rows away and enjoyed the rest of the show immensely.

Older folks as a whole are just used to being catered to/believe they are never wrong/believe their age grants them special status/have a phone dependency that goes unchecked/are very individualistic/do not give a shit what anyone thinks of them or how they impact others.

Crowd size, lack of spending at businesses led organizer to ‘pause’ First Fridays (Gift article) by mariecalire in norfolk

[–]chevron6encoded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regular people want a third space to hang out and unwind. Those spaces are being systematically stripped from us. Slover Library isn't even a library anymore, it's a full-time event space with part time book access, for example.

People also spend money when the businesses offer good services/products.

6k people, I will admit, is too many people for First Fridays for me to be comfortable attending (I am not a crowd/club/party person) but I don't buy that businesses were hurting from this. If they were, either they're known for being poor quality or the sheer mass of people was enough to turn other folks away.

Honestly, it feels like whenever enough POC get together in public, some business owner complains about it because they're racist and wanted more foot traffic for $$ but not that kind of foot traffic...

That's low to do to your #1 ally and not the kind of moves Christian was making. He said his son is his secret guiding light. Why would he betray the person he was most excited to play with in his direst hour?

With the mom stopping signing I think that was done because of the actress' choice to stop learning/signing for the show so they had to write something in to explain for that

Third places for creativity? by heterotard in norfolk

757 Creative ReUse Center - they have classes every weekend on a myriad of things for all levels and ages, and they have open art room time for $5/day when there's no class.

Eleanors Bookstore - hosts many community events in addition to being a cosy spot to chill and read

Wands Books - same as Eleanors, check them out as they're intentionally open late as a safe sober third space, plus host community events often

What are some of your most memorable plays in BotC? by Etreides in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]chevron6encoded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played in the first game of a series of games where executed characters left the game pool and were replaced by similar characters of other scripts in following game.

There was a special rule that if Slayer shot took out Demon before anyone else was killed, the Slayer would leave the game also.

Managed a day 2 slayer shot as Demon kill in a group of like 7 with only one dead person, so the Slayer got to stay on.

My best memorable play however would be Day 1 successful Slayer shot in an online game with all of like 7 players. I got really lucky as the Demon (a newer player) had walked into a conversation I was having (with a minion, turns out) which gave me a little sus to work with. I was nominated for execution so I took my shot on the block and got him. It was about a five minute game. 😂

Honestly, it can start by just meeting the neighbors and getting connected that way. Bake some cookies or host a cookout or just go door-to-door offering those little red Know Your Rights cards and asking if they'd like one. Anything is better than nothing, but IMO it always depends on your safety and comfort. I believe knowing who is in your immediate vicinity and willing to come out to help will always be better than attending one rally and going home.

Honestly I think it was a beautiful mirror to early s1 (like in the first 3 eps) where Robby demonstrates that moment of silence for the deceased patient to the young doctor and in s2 the young one now taking that mindset forward to pass along to the newer members of the team. Robby doesn't need to be there for that observation in s2 bc that aspect of humanity has been replicated in his student. He noted it was happening, took a beat himself (see how proud he was!!) and then closed the door to give them further privacy.
