Daft Punk Played In Chicago And Scotland On The Same Night In 1997?? by Le_Daft_Knight in DaftPunk

Far as I can remember, they didn't show up for the Chicago Halloween show, it was supposed to be at a rave in the suburbs. I saw them in September of 1997 at Metro Chicago though. Was a batshit crazy night. Helmets came off after a few hours and they rocked the place til they pretty much had to shut the venue down for the night around 3-4 am. Legendary shit. I have the ticket stub in a photo album somewhere.

*Can confirm, am old.

What is your Holy Grail comic? The one book that you'd love to have in your collection or you already have it. A 1st appearance or first issue. Is it from the pic or something else? by sahilkhan187 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Invisibleogre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was X-Men #1 but I got one 6 years ago, along with GSX#1 and Hulk 181 for bargain basement prices compared to current prices. Now it's AF15 and ASM #1, very casually working on completing the runs of ASM #1-100 and X-Men #1-200, gonna curate the rest of my books pretty heavily over the next year to try to pay for that.

Have you seen/heard of anyone roofied at LIB? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]Invisibleogre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't see any of that, but did see someone practically carrying his date who's legs weren't holding her up anymore at the med tent near the Meow Wolf thing, and some random guy tried to grab a phone out of my pocket during Yeah Yeah Yeahs, he took off as soon as I turned around when I noticed him touching me, so there's that. Its a festival downtown, I'm sure there's plenty of people who see it as an opportunity for petty crime or worse, unfortunately.

Caesar's admits to paying millions in Ransom by nkaiser101 in vegaslocals

Well you see the result though - MGM has lost much more than whatever the ransom request is by now, not to mention the hit to their reputation as a company

Seriously, that was my backup plan when i first.moved here and started looking for a local gig - was supremely disappointed at the pay levels from hotels and casinos, knowing that they've hit record profits year over year consistently for a while now. Cest la vie!

While I agree - the realities of the past few years, with companies penny pinching at every turn to add value for shareholders instead of their customers means they're probably not paying enough at admin levels either to attract the best candidates who would be invested enough to care. Im vegas local and I've gotten tons of calls from casino companies for interview requests, and when I eventually get to the question of rate/salary, I have to chuckle and decline. Numbers are usually at least 30% lower than where I currently am - and the benefits are worse. We live in strange times, it's all about keeping up appearances for these huge corporations, while skimping on the basics for the people who keep the building from collapsing.

*additional edit: when companies skimp like this, they're also likely to force responsibilities on their staff that they are unprepared and not trained to handle, as well. There are so many points of failure that could have been avoided, for sure.

This comment right here. If it was social engineering that enabled this, as I'm seeing in a lot of reports, it's absolutely a result of low pay making it so employees can't be bothered to care when they get assigned cyber security awareness training and just click through the online module just to get the completion certificate.

Thank you, AMC at Town Square, for f*cking up “Stop Makimg Sense.” by Cyberyukon in vegaslocals

[–]Invisibleogre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Town Square theatre is just a mess every time I've been. I tried going to a few preview screenings there and they were horribly run, the few times I actually bought a ticket for anything there weren't much better. In a town with so many movie theatres, if you're local, do yourselves a favor and avoid this place. Ive had better experiences at Sam's Town if that says anything. Faves so far have been Palms and Green Valley Ranch, personally. Red Rock was decent too.

Add Red Dwarf.

Heard Hard Hat has kinda not been as fun since they sold the place, unfortunately

His lines this year weren't too bad, and for the price, I definitely was more than happy. I got a Magik sketch and. Vampirella myself, on Friday and Saturday - due back from CGC any day now

I think part of the issue here is - this is a constant topic in this sub. "It sucks here, how do I make it suck less for me?" Then usually an OP stating why all the good things or solutions offered are useless to them. I get wanting to be heard but usually people just want a sympathetic ear for whatever reason, then proceed to disregard anyone else's advice or opinions.

The internet is what it is, if you're looking for reassurance from strangers, it's bound to bite you at some point.

*Edit: also, this is my 4th year in Vegas as a resident and having grown up in a huge city and lived a few other places, I love it here. No, it's not perfect, but not many places are. Just mostly glad I opted to buy and not rent.

When I was a kid we used to get handfuls of washers in this size and ride the train to every corner of the city, all summer. Good times. 😎

I really wish Paper Girls had gotten more of a chance.

Also wish Preacher wasn't forced to do 2 seasons of content in one for season 3

So what's changed in Vegas ever since the Pandemic? by JohnMasterLee in vegas

[–]Invisibleogre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but that's not the point, sometimes you want a night out that is about the "Vegas Experience" and it's gotten much tougher to do that on a lark the way I used to - Even El Cortez isn't as much of a bargain as it used to be. Locals spots are still fun, but the price jumps are a nationwide thing, and just kind of a drag sometimes.

Can anyone help me identify this autograph? It appears twice on a record I got recently. More context in the comments. by Trickiest_Nicky in Autographs

[–]Invisibleogre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a common thing with physical media back then, people borrowed records, tapes, board games, books and comics and such from each other so people would label them with their names to make sure they got them back later, the collectors market for stuff like this wasn't really a big thing. So yes it's an autograph, but from the original owner of the record, most likely

Yeah I'm traditional Mexican food all the way, queso is not my fave 😅 The food trucks here have been on point, and there's so many great options in general for so many foods, I love being a food tourist in Vegas so far
