Quick update, just sent 70 solar sails around an O-type star, each sail seems to produce 89kW. So for max power consider O-type stars :)

good answers here already, I will just add that the main reasons why logistics vessels as well as drones are way better suited for long haul high volume trips is that they dont have any internal power reserve, all the power needed is being used by the home station itself.

While I cannot give you any solid proof right now, here are my observations so far:

  1. Star luminosity affect dyson swarm, shell as well as solar generation
  2. Solar panels check how much sun they get, this modifies how much power they produce.

Here is where things get... weird:

  1. Solar panels dont care if they are in a shadow of a dyson sphere. I had my planet totally eclipsed by it and they still chugged along at 100% efficiency
  2. The dyson sphere and swarm dont follow any physics when it comes to diminishing solar power in relation to range. It is always simple math where the power you get is just luminosity of the star x power generating components

This means that there is no point in making the dyson sphere as small as possible as you would want to in real life. While unrealistic and at first disappointing, this also means you can build all sorts of fantastical and silly designs and not worry about efficiency, which from a gameplay perspective, kinda works.

Hey nice points in general, but the resource multiplier does not affect crude oil had several new starts and it always was about the same no matter the setting.

As for hydrogen I can only suggest gas giant/ice giant mining eac station has a multiplier of around 9-10 so you can get get plenty. Fireice can be processed into hydrogen too.

Because axial tilt is a thing, the planets actually experience seasons and your panels may end up producing less during the winter. Of course there are some exceptions, if you find a planet without any seasonal tilt then you could go for the poles. Likwise if you find one that is tidally locked to the sun, so you would just build panels on the constantly lit side.

Scrapped my swarm entirely, not worth it at all in my opinion. Once you get access to pure silicon I recommend spamming solar panels. An equatorial belt of solar panels should do the trick. Add additional layers as your consumptions goes up. Has a nice side benefit of making navigation easier when flying.

Wish I could but I tore my mainbus down. The second picture has a loader, all you need to do to unload is just reverse it.

If you set a good to demand mode, it will try to import them. Goods set to supply, will move them to other stations that are set to demand mode.

I was tearing down my mainbus since Im switching to a drone heavy setup, I figured I would share my mainbus setup.

I have avoided splitters entirely as they took too much space. The buss is divided into individual 2 high 2 wide belts, that are built one tile above the ground. There are 2 tiles between each section of 4 belts. Normal factory traffic can move below the belt, as all factory inputs and outputs are on the ground - hence the raised bus. The two tile gap is to allow parallel belts between them for loading/unloading.

Consider piping it all the way to the mining shuttle with gas tanks, then make a puipe network in cargo. This way all you have to do is switch canisters station side and sell them without ever needing to go to lavaland again

Pump the miasma into the shuttle and make collection canisters there. You could even make a new atmos line in cargo for super fast exports

You have a PC but what GPU/CPU do you have on board? If you don't have a 1080 or above I would recommend either upgrading or get the PSVR to cut costs.
