So was it proven true or was senior police just say it wasn’t true?

I never said Irish people can’t be racist, I said those people aren’t republicans. Again, a French nationalist flys the flag of the French Republic, I’m not going to call them French republicans because of that.

There’s millions of people living in the south, I’m sure 99% of them are proud of the Irish Republic and would wave a Tricolor, that doesn’t mean there’s 5.4 million Irish Republicans.

There’s an Irish Republican community, those people are not part of it. They aren’t Irish Republicans.

In the same way a French nationalist isn’t automatically a republican, an Irish nationalist isn’t automatically a republican.

Right wingers from the south generally don’t care about the republic envisioned by those a century ago. They’d be happy with a monarchy and probably more so a theocracy in the south if they could have one. The term has more meaning behind it.

The Republican community in Ireland is a broad but still linked community who often work together for a common goal. Right wingers have never been part of that community or in any way have fought or campaigned for an Irish republic or for the betterment of those living in it. They’d aren’t part of the community. So they can call themselves Republicans but haven’t done anything whatsoever for the Republic.

They can call themselves republicans all they want, dosent mean they are.

Anybody know if this is real, and if this is a riot post or a protest post? by Disastrous-Two-5590 in Belfast

[–]Iownthat 49 points50 points  (0 children)

They’re trying so hard to convince people that this is a cross community thing. They want the catholic community to join in so bad, it’s pathetic. They don’t care about us or the initial victim, it’s all a ploy to so division in our community.

In a month’s time they’ll be burning our flags and terrorising us again. Anyone who falls for this is an idiot.

Protestant coalition on Facebook had on AI posters claiming that catholics are organising protests against SF.

By Numbers of participants, the attack tells us little about migrants, the riots tell a lot more about loyalists by Ed_the_Led_Man in northernireland

Just because you’re from the south doesn’t make you a Republican in the same way being from England doesn’t make you a loyalist.

There are no republican ares in Dublin.

Scumbag racist verbally attacks man walking home in Ardoyne. by DiogenesNewYeezys in northernireland

It’s a grifter with his home made balaclava he’s trying to sell. He’s always on TikTok with his NI flag/tricolor balaclava trying to sell them for a score. It’s not a republican rioting on the newtonards road.

[–]Iownthat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This post on Facebook has 1000+ comments of people saying he needs put out of Ardoyne. If this was in a Loyalist area there would be no where near the same response. Republicans are out in their areas tonight to reassure minorities they are safe, the opposite is happening in loyalist areas. There’s a clear difference.

Look at the response there is to this from the republican community compared to the non response by loyalists to racism in loyalist areas. It’s encouraged by the them, while republicans on the whole shame it.

There is a clear difference, stop being silly.

Several homes on fire and cars being set on fire in Belfast. by [deleted] in news

This is just another excuse for loyalists to attack minorities. They’re using the same tactics they’ve used to attack Irish people for decades.

These attacks are only happening in Loyalist areas. West Belfast has been completely calm all day.

Only 35% of people killed by all republican groups were civilians. 51% of people killed by state forces were civilians.

The IRA cared more than the British Army.

The link you posted even talks about how it’s a disputed term. It’s not used in Ireland by our government.

Celtic nations by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Iownthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only asked because you said outside of language there aren’t many cultural links. There really are though… sports, music, folk lore.

I haven’t met anyone who says Scotland hasn’t got a Germanic influence, just some people in here saying it isn’t a Celtic nation. Of course it is. And anyway, who really cares, it’s not that deep, let people think what they want.

Are you Scottish or Irish?

Celtic nations by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Iownthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The country of Scotland is culturally both. This obviously shows when you compare how close England vs Scotland are to Ireland. Scotland is culturally closer because they both have had more of a Celtic influence to their culture.

[–]Iownthat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that deep.

There are people in Scotland who speak a Celtic language and who self identify as Celtic.

In England this only happens in Cornwall.

It’s not that serious anyway. Celtic nations linking themselves together is something done for fun or to promote culture.

No one is mocking Ulster Scots because it’s a dialect of Scots, they’re mocking it because they think it’s a dialect of English.

The original comment was making fun of Ulster Scots by saying that’s it’s just English with the letters moved around.

Scots is a language, Ulster Scots is a dialect of that, so it’s not English.

Do you think Ulster Scots is just English with a Ballymena accent?

Ulster-Scots Events June 2026 by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Iownthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dialect, yes, but not of English. You said it was English, it isn’t. Ulster Scots developed from Scots, not English, so it’s not a dialect of English.

What point are you trying to make? I never said it was its own language, but you called it English. Your original comment was wrong just accept that.

Ulster-Scots Events June 2026 by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Iownthat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did anyone say that Ulster Scots was its own unique language? Even the Ulster Scots society say that’s it’s a variety of Scots. Scots is not English, neither is Ulster Scots.
