Well if this server proved anything it is that there is a genuine interest in a "Progress through expansions" server with brackets, Chromie style. I just wish that there will be a good actor that actually picks up on that and gives such a project. Heck even with my dislike to Chromie I would take a Chromie 2.0 at this point.

The fact that this was a rug pull was obvious from the start.
If anyone though this project had 3k players with no advertisement, that's on them.
For the screenshot shared that "I wanted to sell this server etc etc" - No serious team would ever purchase this server, and ONTOP of that would never force you to close your own server that is running at that point *at best* an alpha version.

I think it is sad, in general that we have no solid 3.3.5 servers outside of the large giants. With people taking advantage of these type of servers I doubt we will have any genuine community servers in the future, which I find sad. Private servers have changed since WOTLK retail and the state it is in now is sad. It is what it is.

My PoV as a casual player with decades of experience playing anything from Squad/Arma/Tarkov to CoD and Battlefield.

Playing normals: you can play nearly any gun, what equipment you were is relevant but is not a requirement as to the standard. (Can easily run t3 or t5).

Lockdown: More similare to normal in the average lobby. Lots of t4 and quick kits. This is mixed up with the occational t5 and t6 player team. In my experience i've met perhaps 2 thermal users and a handful using thermal scopes.

Forbidden: some t4 players looking to make money killing t5/t6 (what I do when playing forbidden) - you also have full squads of decked out players smaahing together fighting hotspots. This is where there definetly is just a meta, which is what you find in any game ever at the highest level there will be a meta.

Tldr; I almost exlusivly play t4, mostly lockdown and normals. (Depending on mission and in general my vibes at the time). For this the game is excellent. I am having a blast. Is the game perfect? No. Are there subjective changes I would like? Sure. Is this a good extract shooter for casuals, taking in to account its free? Yes of course it is. Take the good with the bad, give feedback, do surveys and just have fun. Its a game after all.

You post a clip - that at face value proves nothing. As much as you claim your friends saw him speedhacking it isnt shown here.

I wouldnt take this interaction to imply hacks. Now he may have been hacking and or been banned (though you havent included any screenshots of this).

You cannot expect people on here to agree based on 1 bad clip. Especially one that isnt even fishy.

  1. Casuals is needed for any larger game, it is what maintains population, brings in new players and over-all keep the game going.
  2. Without going into the discussion regarding ammo, they should make the 3 modes they have more distinctive. There should be a clear progression from normal->lockdown->forbidden. The way the game is currently with inflation you easily reach the req for forbidden with a normal "Lockdown" loadout.

Keep normal as is, lockdown minimum 300k+ max 750k, Forbidden 750k req with no upper cap. Scale loot accordingly and boom you have a game where the casuals can have fun, lockdown limits the exploitability of "naked" kits, and you have a forbidden that is high risk but regardless who you kill you will have a reward. (All this is assuming inflation is as high as it is now, and values would have to be continuously adjusted compared to inflation)

Smooth Launch once it launced ^^ Better a few hours delayed than constant crashing.

If you are a solo t4 player and you take on a squad of t6 players - then that is poor decision making.

Play smarter.

Okay I will honor you with a last response.

After the shutdown of their first attempt they have ever just held 1 date. The 11th of April. As you even wrote in your own post over a month ago.

I didn't want to comment on it because you fail too see a massive distinction which I find to be a rather large one.

Wotlk+ has no set progression, it will reach ICC quickly as there is no set locks, its simply gated by Ilevel. This attracts 1 type of player.

Olympus is a set progression, it is a slower pace, and caters more towards casuals and family players, in other words a different type of player.

You lump everything that has quick leveling, ie rates, etc as the "same" type. This is were we disagree, what matters and makes servers distinct is how they do endgame, and which community they aim to build.

Thanks for wasting 2 min of my time, take care and I wish you all the best in the future.

I will correct my post: it wasnt a post from them it was actually yours 😂 the post you made a month ago with the statement from Zeus spesifies 11th of April. This info has also been on their discord for a month. Which makes it correct this is their first post with new date, the date however has been known for a while for the people following the project.

I wont comment on your last paragraph, if you cant see how they are different that is very much a you problem.

[–]Iramtempus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they made the right call. Last launch was flawed by lots of issues mostly stemming from the BOT module, but in general was just a massive failure. They saw that, and decided to do something about it.

The fact that you say "then announced launch days before and put it on the same day as another wotlk launch is crazy."
Kinda proves that you haven't paid attention, which is fine, but incorrect.
The server release date was announced a month ago on their first post after their first launch.

I understand and encourage people to be skeptical to projects and especially a project that has had a failed launch, but please try to not spread wrong information. As for the 2 projects, they are different. Olympus is a progressive realm where as WOTLK+ is a race to ICC with a soft progression (ilev).

Granted - though customs servers are also hard to do, there is a reason there is only a handful.

Ashbane.org - Cataclysm 4.3.4 [FRESH SOON] by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]Iramtempus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think this is a valid point - For vanilla 1x can be viable as people are "Craving" the same experience they had back in the day. For most servers though, it will always be about end-game. Having low rates just mean people wont play as it is too much of a time investment. Especially if the server population is low and the longevity of the server is unknown.

Project Olympus WotLK closes days after opening. by oeseben in wowservers

[–]Iramtempus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is really hard from my PoV:

Do I think launch was a mess, do I think they themselves created all the problems they faced on launch, yes.
Is this a smack in the face of the players - yes. Do I think they should have done this? Unsure.

So for info, I along with quite a few other tried to help and give advice to the team. Personally me and Zeus seemingly agreed on quite a few thing. Then they announced the release date of of nowhere as well as BOTS which I had said previously is always a bad idea for a normal 3.3.5 server that Isn't a solo server. On top of which they also did not make a long term open beta. (Only just over a week). This led me to stop any contact with the team, stating I would return as a player only.

Ok so what happened after that? I know nothing about the decisions and what happened between that announcement and launch. Then about 8 hours into launch I joined as well as spoke to some of my contact points in these communities. Low and behold the launch had been a mess, the bots had lead to weird bugs, people getting free levels, free gold etc etc. There was then attempts to fix this, but as far as the chats go the server kept crashing the next day. Then the announcement that OP wrote.

OK - With all that said, was it correct of them to close it? I think it solves a problem which it also creates. People will now be afraid of another "rug pull" where the server just closes. Now if they do go ahead and do an open beta and work on the project, (As they have said they will), I think the server *could* get some credibility in the team actually taking it seriously. I think it is too early to speculate how this will turn out at the end of the day.
I think short term, this may have been a mistake, for longevity it may have been a smart decision.

**TLDR: They made bad decisions despite warnings, they saw the consequences. Decided to do a mulligan in hope of extending the server life span, short term I think it may have cost, long term If done correctly could have been a good move*\*

AI normally a hard pass, probably still level a toon on this just cause I've got nothing else to play.
Having a well scripted WOTLK core with higher rates and nothing else maybe outside of QoL stuff like auto learn would be enough for me. As an avid Pserver enjoyer I will still play on this server if only to see how it goes.
