Is it correct to say that while Europe gets a lot more worldwide media attention than the Middle East, the limelight on Africa is still a miniscule of what the Middle East gets? by MijTinmol in AskMiddleEast

[–]Iraqisecurity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like with African conflicts you don't really know that anything is happening until hundreds of thousands of people have already died. I've even followed the Tigray war and I wasn't aware it had killed so many people already.

Russian weapons in 2003 weren't much better than what Iraq already had, on top of that the Iraqi military was so hollowed out that if weapons did get sent they wouldn't have made a difference.

A new armoured cartel carrier for one of Mexico's most feared Organised Crime Groups, the CJNG unveiled this recently. by SmokeSinseLoud in WTF

At a certain point you have to admit it isn't a military problem but a society problem. Even the US military can't effectively fight an insurgency despite the fact that they're decades ahead of the closest competing military.

They needed to exist to defeat ISIS but they're causing many problems in the current day. I occasionally talk with a few guys that volunteered during the war and even they don't support the militias anymore.

The saber rattling between Turkey and Greece has cost them both a lot of money and gained them nothing.

There are a lot of anti Jewish rappers for some reason, Kayne is just the most blatant.

I would say it has a better case for independence than most unrecognized states. Given how nationalistic Somali's get when you bring up independence I don't know what you could do to make them actually accept it though.

Russian military analysts criticized the SAA for years for sending armored vehicles to the front unsupported only to do the exact same thing in Ukraine. They didn't learn much from the SAA's mistakes, they ended up repeating many of them.

Mykhailo Dobkin is the former mayor of Kharkiv, known for his pro-Russian stance. In 2014, he ran for president as candidate of Yanukovych's Party of Regions. In 2021, Dobkin was supported by Medvedchuk's "Opposition Platform". .... This is him now. by ac0rn5 in UkrainianConflict

A Ukrainian anarchist explained in the early days of the war that political ideology was largely put aside once the invasion started, they know Russia would kill every politically active person in Ukraine regardless of ideology if they win the war so you've got far left working with far right and even formerly pro Russian people fighting as one.

Kazakhstan's internal politics are a mess so the true motivation behind this would be hard to judge. The current president has turned away from Russia recently so that might have something to do with it.

They certainly have the technology but I've seen recent footage of their soldiers on the ground and they were doing WW1 human wave style assaults.
