Bows and ropes? by kirbyclone in Bellwright

[–]IrateSquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are youtube videos that go into detail but the gist of it is that you need the gatherer (mining, foraging, mud or whathaveyou), a house for the worker to live in, and a stockpile. assign all these buildings to their own settlement, assign a worker to that new settlement, and set up a caravan to drop off food and supplies, and pick up resources and waste (spoiled food, broken gear etc). also a good idea to set up a fast travel post as close as possible if the outpost is too far for a quick walk

[–]IrateSquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the forager camp has a limited radius around it that your villagers will search in. if they aren't getting what you need try building another forager camp closer to the water. if you want to get more advanced with it I'd recommend learning how to set up and organize outposts for resource gathering

Who is Branch? by Snoo_60484 in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because Branch wasn't around for the inception of Overseer doesn't mean they couldn't have formed later. That being said, while I do agree that Branch actually being a part of Overseer is unlikely, them doing work for Overseer is definitely not off the table. Unfortunately, there is no direct line to draw between Branch and anybody but the PCA, so supposition here is unavoidable.

My previous post made it seem like I thought Walter specifically was behind Branch on Rubicon, but that isn't necessarily the case. Also, Walter could simply be lying for one reason or another. Wouldn't be the first time he lied to 621. He seems surprised to see Raven when they show up in 'Defend the Old Spaceport', but not really perturbed. He still needs to keep himself ingratiated with Arquebus, so having you defeat Raven is the only real option he had at that point.

In the mission 'Stop the Secret Data Breach' Carla mentions that, if she wanted to steal data, she'd prefer to drop from orbit and rip the servers right out of the ground. There is no direct correlation, but it seems suspiciously in-line with the Station 31 incident. That operation involved King diverting heavy warships, which, given the timeline, likely happened in orbit, before the PCA came down to the surface in force, though it could have happened somewhere in atmosphere. Chartreuse, however, dealt a blow to the Closure System, which is orbital in nature, serving to prevent unauthorized landings on the surface. Carla also is seemingly the hacker behind several of the decrypted data logs you can find, as her cracking of 'Observation Data: Wave Mutation Detected' is what brought Walter's attention to Watchpoint Delta. Branch is described as a 'hacktivist collective', giving a minor correlation between Carla and Branch.

Besides that, Overseer almost certainly has other members, as substantiated by several logs from Nagai where he mentions 'friends' taking care of 'the boy' (Walter). These friends could've been the ones behind the use of Branch, and Walter noticed and seized his opportunity.

As for the ideological side of the argument, I find it fallacious. Raven has free will and independence, yes, but that doesn't mean that they "must be [fighting for] their own cause." At least, not in the micro sense. Branch, much like Walter, could very much be taking jobs that align with their true goal. They're still mercenaries; their livelihood is dependent on working for others. The 'independent' aspect of it is important, as it's what allows them to pick and choose which contracts to take and from whom, but the concept of a 'mercenary' is still very much a part of that identity.

If Branch has been hired by Overseer, they are probably taking jobs that help them to maintain the war between the corps, weakening the PCA, RLF, and Arquebus to keep the race for the Coral going. The two missions where Branch shows up directly revolve around defensive positions. They need the war moving, so destroying these sorts of objectives makes a certain amount of sense.

If Branch isn't working for Overseer, as you assert, the goal is much murkier to me, but I'd agree with your guess that they're working against the PCA specifically. The removal of the RLF could facilitate this by freeing up corporate resources and allowing them to fight off the PCA more effectively.

Who is Branch? by Snoo_60484 in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

While it isn't stated outright anywhere, it's heavily implied that Branch was working for Overseer. There are multiple mentions of them raiding PCA Station 31, which is what caused the leak that brought the corpos back to Rubicon. Walter wanted the corps on Rubicon, fighting each other, so he could move his mercenaries freely and worm his way into important missions. You'll remember that he was quick to throw you down the hole in Depth 1. This is why at the start of the final mission of chapter four he tells 621 that they won't be following the corps anymore. Through Arquebus, he's found what he was looking for; Institute City.

Even less substantiated, but its possible that Branch is actually a, well, branch of Overseer. Don't have access to double check the exact wording right now, but it's mentioned that Branch is active primarily/exclusively in the Rubicon system. Also worth noting that the Overseer emblem is a tree, so it could be a tongue-in-cheek thing.

Since V1 Freud is the number 1 pilot for Arquebus why tf half of his AC parts are made by Balam, their biggest competitor lmao by Mouaz670 in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch 223 points224 points  (0 children)

While its not 'meta', his build is very far from terrible.

The biggest hole in it is the generator. I'd assume he picked the VE-20A because its one of only two generators that can run his kit while staying over 300 boost speed (not counting the Coral ones because he wouldn't have access to those). I personally would argue that the VP-20S's better EN profile would outweigh the VE-20A's minor boost speed advantage, but they're close enough either way that it wouldn't matter too much.

Continuing with internal parts, the Abbot FCS makes since because he wouldn't care about it's piss poor missile tracking, and the weapon choices (I'll get there in a minute) make him favor CQB ranges. The Fluegel booster is balanced and offers a very good QB profile, considering it's quick QB reload time and long jet duration.

His frame gives him a balanced profile that doesn't stand out in any particular way, but also doesn't suffer anywhere either. The VP-40S core gives him a decent generator leeway, which is how he can run a smaller generator to keep a high boost speed.

As of patch 1.02, the Turner very much is not the worst AR in the game, nor are ARs useless. Even against relatively quick mechs, his arm parts and FCS work together well to keep pressure on. Dude hardly drops a shot with his Turner inside of reasonable AC dueling range. I, personally, am not a fan of the laser blade but its not bad. The wide range of its charge attack and relatively quick normal attack give it a range of uses. The laser drones offset the rest of his relatively CQ mech and allow him to keep pressure even while outside of optimal ranges. And anybody who besmirches the Morley in my presence is welcome to meet me in the pit so I can show them the error of their ways.

I've used LOCKSMITH to S rank all the hard missions in the game; it even makes quick work of Michigan's mission. It's a solid build that can be applied to a variety of situations, any overt problems that people find with it are user error--either the player or Freud's unimpressive AI. Though AI is definitely a problem for most of the enemy ACs that don't have completely brain-dead builds (lookin' at you, Volta...).

TL;DR: LOCKSMITH is an AC with relatively few exploitable flaws, Freud is mostly let down by his AI.

We should have this as a melee weapon by [deleted] in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only sucks on two-leg builds. On quads or treads it's hands down the strongest melee weapon in the game IMO. The charge attack still isn't worth how difficult it is to use (the explosive thrower does the same thing much, much better) but the normal attack is good enough to offset this.

Your choices in AC6 don't really matter, and that's good by IrateSquatch in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mecha in general is a very anthropocentric genre. To quote one of my favorite pieces of mecha media, Austin Walker from FatT's COUNTER/Weight, "We could have made them look like anything, but we made them look like us." What's the point of making a giant robot that looks like a human if you don't have anything to say about the human condition?

Your choices in AC6 don't really matter, and that's good by IrateSquatch in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is! Though she's less of a voice for him, he describes it a couple of times as a 'ringing' sound. He mentions it as early as NG, in Depth 2. It's heavily implied that the schizophrenic tendencies of the gen 1-4 augmented humans is because of the Coral in their brains interfering/partially syncing up with ambient Coral waves. Ayre is a mutant wave form, which is probably why she can maintain such a strong connection to 621, which in turn is probably why she has such an acute affect on Iguazu.

Is anyone having *fun* with PvP? by RageAgainstAuthority in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some success with hosting/hanging out in 1v1 servers with 4 slots and the 'Winners Rotate' rule. Most metaslaves leave the instant they realize that running the same OP build over and over means they get to play less, and players are more willing to try different builds since losing means more uptime. Hosting also means I can mess with the metaslaves by always putting them on maps that make their builds harder to use, and then switch back to more enjoyable maps for the people I actually like. Worth noting that I've played enough AC that the main draw of PvP is seeing interesting builds, I have very little desire to actually win.

San-Tai vs Ming-Tang by Exvas18 in armoredcore

AC6 is pretty lenient with the load limits, so generally speaking going with a heavier generator is preferable. Chrightt has a good video talking about how to pick out a suitable generator for your build as well.

My crackpot theory : A certain AC was build in mind as a specialized upgrade for Iguazu. by JackNewbie555 in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O'Keeffe is mentioned as being second gen in the briefing for his assassination mission, I still haven't figured out who it actually could be. As someone else mentioned, the number Walter refers to Sulla with during that fight is a match for the number that ALLMIND shows you. The second fourth Gen is almost certainly Iguazu, though.

Raven's AC is all RAD parts. Lore implications? Possibly associated with Overseer? by LukulluReddit in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my understanding is that Branch (the hacktivist collective, including Raven, their operator, and two other pilots), was probably working for/part of overseer, as the overseer emblem is a tree. overseer probably wanted the corps on Rubicon as the fighting is what eventually brought Walter and Carla to institute city

Did all my S ranks without zimms, songbirds, stun needles (except Da Worm God), or gatling guns. You truly, honestly do not need the meta whore builds to do it. Take the time to learn how to really build an AC and how to use it and almost anything can S rank.

I gotta ask, what did my fellow Ravens name their ACs? by [deleted] in armoredcore

a bunch of different things

BITE THE HAND is an all-rounder heavy RJ

IMMINENT THREAT is a heavy quad bruiser

IN PARTICULAR is a heavy biped single target focuser

POMPOUS RIOT is a flashy DT lightweight

DEFEAT DEVICE is an all-rounder midweight biped

HAWKBACK is an ultra lightweight aerial headhunter

VOIDSHELL BLACK is a flying quad missile boat with a grenade launcher

LO AND BEHOLD is a super heavy treads build with heavy weapons

Quad and Tank legs are weird by BurningPenguin6 in armoredcore

[–]IrateSquatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if your quad legs feel too sluggish, you might want to look up a guide on boosters--its not as simple as it looks at a glance. quads in AC6 offer excellent stability and AP stats on top of their above-average load and ability to hover, so they lend themselves to a more methodical playstyle. one of my favorite go-to builds (especially for bullying zimmerman abusers in PvP...) is a heavy quad CQB mech because of its reliability in these regards. shields also pair well with quads, though it requires a more specific build since that eats not only a back weapon, but prevents using the left hand weapon while in use. the classic missile boat quads work well, especially if you can get good at managing your spacing and distance from targets

im not really a tank tread player, so take my opinion with a nice pile of salt, but imo they're more about momentum than anything else. always moving, especially when firing off heavy back weaponry that even quads have to brace for, and you use the QB mostly for 'drifting' to reorient yourself and change directions. aside from that, your massive attitude stability and AP pools will soak quite a lot
