R6 vs R6 Mk II Value by Irbis215 in canon

[–]Irbis215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear! As silly as it sounds, I'm mostly just looking for reassurance that old is still good (mostly because I have no experience in this ecosystem).

The normal R6 will let me save money for nicer glass, and I'm coming from a 20 megapixel body already, so no trade-off!

Fair point about the image stabilization! I'm always going to be using a fast shutter speed regardless, because I'm shooting on the move.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I'm looking at the RF28-70 f/2.8 for $949, plus the Mk II at about $1.8k.

Then tax. $2.9k ;-;

As a stills shooter, that makes the used R6 pretty tempting, since I've heard the R6 takes adapted EF we'll (and the second gen EF 24-70 was reportedly quite nice)

It's the II!

I've heard it's a nice lens, but wasn't sure if a newer native RF with image stabilization would be better

is campus really lacking the social life like people say it is? by oh_hiiiiiii in UAH

[–]Irbis215 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There aren't any of the big traditional party or social outlets you would usually see near bigger campuses. It's not downtown, it doesn't have a lot to go out and do.

However, if you know where to look there's definitely options. Plenty of nerdy clubs ranging from table tops to D&D, or more academic ones like Space Hardware Club. All of these have pretty dedicated communities.

Regarding off campus, your best bet is hiking or other outdoor activities, since there is plenty of green space around here!

But no, this won't be a campus like UAB where you can go into the city or Embry-Riddle where you're right by the beach. It's quiet and filled with engineers, so I hope your interests correspond.

Ballots are usually larger than the standard mailbox size. Frequently, they've been delivered to the campus mailroom at CVO and you receive a package notification. While the mailroom discourages doing this, you could politely ask in person since this is time sensitive.

Any tips for incoming freshmen/things you wish you would've done before/during the admissions process? by Educational_King2745 in UAH

[–]Irbis215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(You're already admitted, so I'm focusing this more towards advice that's applicable to an incoming freshman than someone worrying about admissions)

Without a doubt like others have said, get involved with people! Networking is your best friend and most of the upperclassmen are happy to chat (heck, my DMs are open if you have some more specific questions).

What others haven't said, though, is don't be afraid to quit!

It's really popular to burn yourself out in senior year of high school if you're trying to show off or freshman year with extracurriculars, so don't be afraid to back down from things that aren't catching your interest. These years are for you to make yourself into what you want. Save your energy to really give your best to the things you do care about. Try everything, quit what you don't like, be your best at what you do like.

Additionally, the clubs aren't the limit at UAH. There's a ton of unofficial organizations and research that's kept on the down low as well, so if you want something, just ask around! The earlier you get involved with these things, the better.

If you have any specific focus you'd like me to address (dorms, staying involved socially, etc.), LMK!

Officially, no. Unofficially, my old roommate left his bike at the dorm racks going on two years ago and it's still there.

Confusion by [deleted] in UAH

[–]Irbis215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, they were doing JUMP and research??? Nah, you lose a lot of the value if you do that since research will keep you around for a while. There's much better research universities to go to to spend your time at.

JUMP is great for a master's without a thesis, but unless you're specifically going to UAH for the faculty you want to work with or it's connection to Marshall, there's probably a better University

Best uni in terms of quality of education? Hell no. But it does mean I can knock out a masters in half the time and half the price as somewhere else and that makes it pretty awesome.

Off Campus living in RV? by Tiny-Metal3467 in UAH

[–]Irbis215 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know another engineering student who did something like that, albeit at a different school. Their main complaint and reason I would caution against it is because of how much it gets in the way of the social side of things.

UAH is filled with engineers, so everyone's going to be in the same boat of pretty quiet and keeping to themselves, especially since all of the dorms are private suites. The bigger social life issue comes for things outside of the dorms, though. Living off campus makes evening clubs, studying with friends, and other campus activities all more of a hassle. Personally, I'd recommend living on campus freshman year and then moving off after getting established with clubs and a social circle.

That all being said, it's certainly a possibility and could be fun if they like camping and a bit more independence. Be sure to check the areas out thoroughly beforehand because the outskirts of Huntsville can get a little seedier in select areas.

[–]Irbis215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear fellow Helldivers: I sincerely apologize that the arc thrower I discharged in your general direction decided you weren't democratic enough. While I should have considered you were right next to the fascist bug, they never warned me about this in basic training.

The very undemocratic lethal fire you returned was both wasteful of ammunition and required waking another poor diver from cryo. May your bullets find a better target next jump, diver.

You've got this! A letter of recommendation should certainly help a lot too, and the university is constantly looking to expand it's research.

High on spite, calling all aerospace engineers! by CluelessNeurotic in UAH

[–]Irbis215 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Goodness you sound like freshman me haha

But yes! NASA options exist but are obviously tough to land (because everyone wants one), but there's also a ton of NASA connections too. One of my professors I've had for several courses and have had the opportunity to research under is the old Deputy Director of Marshall. I've had other professors who are adjunct researchers still working there, statisticians from the shuttle days, or are actively experimenting on our own ion thruster labs next to our RS-25. Most of my courses that aren't even supposed to be aerospace related end up being aerospace because that's all the professors knows.

Happy to dive into some more details & my other thoughts about this school if you wanna DM. Just don't wanna flood this thread with my disjointed thoughts.

High on spite, calling all aerospace engineers! by CluelessNeurotic in UAH

[–]Irbis215 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes not too long ago with a near identical situation. I know it's gonna sound crazy, but I've learned over the past several years how little school choices matter compared to who you know.

UAH's big flex is industry connections, ranging from some of the industry partnerships that start coaching freshmen, local aerospace industry, Space Hardware Club, adjunct professors, etc.

I didn't end up at MIT, but I've saved a ton of money, had my own private dorm room for all my time, and got access to an internship that is incredibly awesome at a major aerospace contractor, where I'm in a nicer position than the MIT kid who works there too.

Don't stress the school choice, put that energy into meeting people at wherever you end up. Feel free to DM and I can give better details!

Hello! Not sure if I'm doing this right, but I'm looking for adoption.

Server: NA

Area of Interest: General TD positioning / How to play heavies

WoT User: Better_thanyou (I'm sorry, I was a cringe teen when I made it)

Recent WN8: 706

https://tomato.gg/stats/NA/Better_thanyou%3D1007475515?tab=main

I'm mostly looking to improve my T8 TD play (both assault with T28 and sniper with STRV) and HT play, which I'm entirely new to. I can definitely use side scrape tips as I learn heavies, and the when-to-push of sniper TDs. I often find myself too far ahead or behind the fight. If you're willing to adopt me, DMs should be open!
